This is a great local cinema with four screens, but it has all the recent films. I believe it is privately owned, with very pleasant young staff. Matinee films offer tea, coffee and biscuits included in the price, there is also a small bar there. It may not be the younger cinema goers choice as I think they prefer to go further afield to see films on larger screens. They now have more comfortable seats with cup holders which is a great improvement. I think it is a great asset to the community.

The idea of an independent cinema with a bar licence is great - you can take alcoholic drinks into the film, and you are supporting the local community.

However, unfortunately I just felt the place was a bit run down. It looks pretty bad from the outside (but don't judge a book by its cover?), and is a bit quirky inside. The toilets didn't feel that clean. I think more investment is needed.

Importantly, the screen was quite small, and from the second row I was able to see the chicken-wire effect - where you can see the fine black lines that separate the pixels in the images.

Now, I could live with all of this, but the prices were too high given the compromises. It would be worth it at half the price. Alternatively, I'd pay the full price if it had much better facilities, bigger screen and a better projector system.

We frequently stay in Wells and visiting the Wells Film Centre is always a must. The staff are delightful, friendly and knowledgeable, and it is such a treat to be able to watch a selection of the latest films so conveniently and comfortably. I do hope the local residents realise how lucky they are to have such a gem on their doorstep.

This is an independent film centre which has creatively managed to not only survive, but also to flourish in the era of the multiplex.

The centre has kept films local for this part of Somerset - and has done so in style.

Enthusiastic and friendly staff - and a good range of films to watch ... What more can you ask for

attended Tuesday 28th January 2014, 3pm performance

This is an absolute gem of a theatre with staff that are so enthusiastic and proud of they do. There is an intellectual commitment to films of good quality. This is an independent house with three theatres and we attended the larger Screen One to see '12 Years a Slave'. I joked with the ticket seller, a fairly left-brained bearded fellow, that I wanted '24 years a slave' and without batting an eyelid he sold me two tickets. They are £6.50 but £5 on Sunday nights.

I expected only a few people but there were in fact 38 which for a 3pm performance on a rainy afternoon I thought was pretty good

In the foyer, they serve alcoholic drinks as well as tea and coffee and popcorn and ice cream. There are armchairs and facilities for children to play. Everyone who attends an afternoon performance gets tea, coffee and biscuits included.

This establishment has been recently refurbished and the seating was as comfortable as any I have experienced in the West End of London. There was a decent space between the rows and there were little compartments that you could put your soda or coffee or whatever you chose to have.

The sound was good and the only gripe I would have was the hum of the air conditioning system but after a time you did not notice it. At least the a/c worked.

My conclusion is that anyone living in or recently moved into Wells, Somerset or within striking distance will find this a very good cultural centre. They have a web site which you can easily find by typing in the three titular words.
