Really beautiful houses originally built to house the choristers of the Cathedral. Beautiful architecture and well worth seeing!

this street was one of the most beautiful old streets I have ever walked through in my life! The chimneys were the tallest I had ever seen on houses, you could definitely tell how old it was, a wonderful piece of English heritage

There isn't much to Vicar's Close but it is interesting to walk up it and look at the old houses/apartments and the fascinating architecture. It takes only 5 minutes to walk through Vicar's Close and since it is so close to the cathedral and Bishop's Palace I think it is time well spent for a visit.

A visit to the Cathedral is incomplete without seeing the Vicar`s close. We had a stroll around when it was very quiet understanding it in relation to the Cathedral, you can get some grasp of the functioning of the clergy in those early days. At the end of the Close is a small chapel which is often open. The steps up to the 'bridge' over to the Cathedral is not open to the public but you can imagine the choristers using it to avoid 'temptations'!

On our last morning we completed the 'moat walk' recommended in our hotel and this included the Vicars Walk. The house are so unusual ...doubt you've seen anything like these!
