It feels like you are transported to another time. Well kept residential buildings. No through traffic and a delight to see.

“Vicar's Close takes you back centuries.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2014

Just off the road that leads to the beautiful Wells Cathedral, you'll find this wonderful road of terraced houses built centuries ago with a small chapel at the top of the road.

“Vicar's Close”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2014

Just outside Wells Cathedral is Vicar's Close. Historic in that it is said to be the oldest street of intact houses in Europe! These rows of cottages are enchanting and beautiful and transport you back in time somehow. Check out and learn the history as you visit. Another great spot to take photos. See for yourself and enjoy!

“Chocolate box picture perfect!”

It was like stepping back in time walking into the close and it's just a stones throw from the cathedral and town - make sure you pay it a visit!

“Oh, the chimneys”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2014

The chimneys on the front facades are the most immediately noticeable feature of the Close. Then the regularity of the houses themselves, then to variations on the theme, and actually, if you look carefully, the houses are all different in size and with different armorial shields in each bay, and in the end, each house is not the same as its neighbour.
