“Picturesque!”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

Take a picninc, relax, enjoy. What a beautiful spot! Occasionally there are special events, so check out details beforehand. There is a fee for the Bishops palace unlike the Catherdral, so be aware of this. The grounds outside the moat and around the cafe are free however. Enjoy!

“A peaceful place”
Reviewed July 13, 2013

I visited on a hot day and thoroughly enjoyed the gardens. The Palace was quite interesting and the small chapel rather lovely, though I think the best part is the gardens, so it is well worth a visit on a good day.

“Beautiful and inspiring”
Reviewed July 12, 2013

From start to finish this was an absolute joy to visit. So much loving care seems to have gone into making everything attractive to the visitor, and things that may have been considered stuffy, were in fact quite delightful. I was moved right from the beginning, when visiting the gorgeous Bishop's Chapel. There was an exhibition upstairs of items parishioners had found which meant a lot to them, with a clear description beside each. Again this could have been stuffy, but was, in fact, interesting and even fun at points (see the Vinegar Bible!). The Undercroft had a really marvellous vertical film projection of the Cathedral and Palace throughout the eras which was mesmerising! The gardens are glorious, and very photogenic. I will be interested to see how the new modern garden takes shape. All in all I left feeling spiritually refreshed - but PLEASE remove that awful plastic swan from the moat! Art it is NOT!!
