My girlfriend and me had a two-night break booked for us in the cottage at Stowberry House as a present - and it was a thoroughly memorable stay.

From the moment we arrived, Mr and Mrs Young showed us wonderful hospitality, and were incredibly helpful in ensuring we had everything we needed to be comfortable. There were lots of really thoughtful 'personal touches' as well - such a chocolates lying in wait for us by the side of our bed, and also print-outs of the weather forecast for the day ahead...

And Stowberry House itself is a fabulous and charming place - a handsome building set in beautiful grounds offering incredible views of Wells and also Glastonbury Tor in the distance. As we acclimatised to our opulent surroundings, we actually both began to feel a bit like we were starring in a film adaptation of a Jane Austen novel!

The overall highlight though was the continental breakfast - a stunning spread made up largely of Mrs Young's home-made wares, including various different types of home-made bread, scones and muffins.

Highly recommended...

My partner & i stayed here just for a weekend away. First impressions of the place was breath taking, the gardens are spectacular and the view was something else.
We were greeted by a very friendly lady who done her up most to make your stay as pleasent as possible & the rooms were comfortable stylish very clean & tidy.
The location of the place is perfect, its about a 5 - 10 minute walk away Wells, which is a small cosy little village with plenty of shops & a market place to look around.
Breakfast the next morning was delicious, everything was homemade from the scones to the jam etc, iv never tasted such delicious food.
We will definitly being staying here again.

My husband and I, (I sound like the Queen), were lucky enough to book a room at Stoberry House in September for the double celebration of our wedding anniversary and his birthday. Wells is one of our favourite places to visit and we return there for the same weekend in September each year. Frances's attention to detail meant that Stoberry House and the garden offered us the oasis of calm and tranquillity that we had been searching for. We enjoyed breakfasts, and not just because they were fresh, delicious, ample and locally-sourced. We also enjoyed the breakfast chat with fellow guests who, when we stayed, came from the Appalachians and Germany. We became absorbed by the ever-changing views over Wells, we visited the ducks in the pond, said hello to the sheep on the short walk into Wells and drank especially blended Stoberry House tea in the garden. Bliss. I asked my husband what he would say in a review. His reply: "It's lush. People should go and stay there." Needless to say, we have already booked for the next September visit.

Had a most enjoyable stay in The Silk Room at Stoberry in December. The room artistically decorated, with an en suite bathroom situated in a far corner of the house made it a relaxing and peaceful base for our exploration of the historic countryside. The view of Glastonbury Thor from the Silk room window each morning was just perfect.
Very friendly and exceptionally helpful hosts, had arranged transport to meet us at he airport and gave us a warm welcome at a very late hour after a long and tedious journey.
The breakfast menu, unique in its choice there was certainly something for every pallet, the fruit platter and egg white omelet remain my favorite.
One thing not to be missed is a stroll through the park and walled garden with its many sculptures artistically placed amongst the plants and flowers. And a special curiosity to see especially at this time of the year is the Night lit garden.

I used to stay in Bath when in England on business, but a colleague recommended that I try Stoberry House, and a real gem it is! The most helpful of hostesses and five star service, on a par with some of the highest quality Hotels I usually stay in when travelling in Europe, but with the warmth and comfort of a home. l aways try to book Lady Hamilton, and on this visit my partner joined me; I had organised a Special Breakfast and the most delicious cream tea. Frances did everything for us to make our four day break relaxing and truly memorable. Truly a boutique B and B of the highest calibre with breath taking views and personalised service.

Wells is a beautiful little city and within walking distance with many great features to enjoy. The garden is exquisite with some unique art pieces lending drama and charm to
the setting.

We stayed here as a base for walking the Mendips. It has all the great attributes of a Wolsey Lodge B&B - good hospitality and comfort, with extra trimmings. The location, overlooking Wells and towards Glastonbury, is stunning. The room was very comfortable, with a quirky, curtained bathroom closet in one corner, but it worked well for us. The breakfast in the family living room is exceptionally well presented and graciously served by the charming hostess. If we had one minor suggestion, it would be to perhaps be a little more relaxed with the guests over breakfast. Having to wait for bread to be served, silver service style, is a little much for some at that time of morning! Overall, a delightful place to stay and so convenient for the city below.

Why, oh Why in the six days the guests stayed with us did they not just ask me to bring their bread basket filled with their requirements? They were perfectly happy to ask me to wrap their muffins so that they could take them with them to eat at midday on their walks, and even asked me to wrap the muffin to take with them on their journey on the day they booked out!

There's not a lot I can really add to the other reviews of this exceptional B&B, although B&B is hardly the right description!

We stayed for one night in the Lady Hamilton room which was luxurious and well-equipped with a very comfortable bed. Bathroom was also very nice. The continental breakfast, which was included in the price, would have been perfectly adequate but we decided to pay £5 extra each for a cooked vegetarian breakfast. Everything was very nicely presented and absolutely delicious. I especially liked the Redbush tea and the yoghurt scones.

I wish we could have had a longer visit as we didn't really have time to enjoy everything that was on offer. The house, set in spectacular grounds, was beautifully furnished and decorated with lots of lovely touches. Stoberry House would be a good place to stay at any time of year as there are several sitting rooms in which to relax with a drink or a book in the winter and beautiful grounds in the summer. Wells has lots to offer with its breathtaking Cathedral and is only a 15 minute walk from Stoberry House.

I would definitely recommend Stoberry House for a relaxing and enjoyable visit.
