We used a Time Out Smartbox voucher for a one night stay. The allocated room was not available on our chosen night so we upgraded for a £25 supplement. Upon arrival, we were further upgraded to the studio for no additional charge.

It was a lovely experience to eat a fantastic breakfast whilst looking upon both Wells Cathedral and Glastonbury Tor. Stoberry House is a lovely B and B which is meticulously clean and very well equiped. The grounds are wonderful for a post breakfast stroll. Frances is very knowledgeble about the area and is dedicated to helping you get the most from you stay. My husband and I had a lovely stay and can't wait to return.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review ,we do appreciate it,we always upgrade our guests if a room type higher than the one booked is available and we appreciate your acknowledgment of this .Winter, although not the most popular time of year to holiday can be a great time to have a short break and , an unusual and unique experience is to seek out the starling roost. One awakes very early and clutching a flask of hot chocolate, coffee, or tea, and a warm muffin, one leaves for a short car ride to meet up with an RSPB guide. Then with other early risers; and with the added advantage of knowing where they roost in the night before . Then it is back to Stoberry for a sumptuous breakfast.

Best hotel ever!

Cannot fault the level of service, Frances could not do enough!

It was a treat for myself and my mum and we were greeted with a friendly welcome, a glass of wine with cakes!

Frances bakes her own breads for breakfast and makes her own yogurts, she even asked us if we would like anything for breakfast the night before and she will make it!

Room was really clean and comfortable, would come back again for sure!

My sister and I enjoyed a wonderful short break at Stoberry House. Frances was so kind and welcoming. The weather was terrible but she brought us a cup of tea and cake straight away and we settled in with no trouble. We were warm and comfortable and our every need had been anticipated. Breakfast was a feast. The situation above Wells has to be one of the best in England and views include the cathedral and Glastonbury Tor. The gardens and grounds are lovely. A real treat.

The experience starts with the drive up the 1/4 mile driveway, it feels very special, when you arrive the views are amazing and arriving in the house you are made to feel very welcome.
Frances, as people have said is very welcoming, once you arrive she shows you around your room, and over a cup of tea and cake she takes you through every detail of what Wells has to offer.
We stayed in the Lady Hamilton room, its a lovely room with nice views, we knew from previous reviews there was only a hand held shower and whilst this was not an issue as such it is probably a surprise given you have everything else you could wish for, tea, coffee, chocolates, torches etc etc.
Given all the previous comments we were looking forward to breakfast and it did not disappoint, there is something for everyone, and all made to a very high standard.
Frances make you feel very welcome, and helps to make the difference here, we would recommend to others.

Here at Stoberry all our rooms are en-suite, we have two rooms with baths and shower
attachments for hair washing, and three rooms with ensuite shower rooms. The joy of being in the country, although within the city boundaries has one very small we feel drawback- no mains water pressure. So that our guests do not have to battle with air locks in the system we made a conscious decision not to put showers in every room and overload the system.
So thank you for being understanding. I am so pleased you enjoyed all my cooking it makes all the effort very worthwhile. Thank you for choosing to stay with us and we hope to welcome you again in the future.

I booked 1 night on Sunday 7 Oct with a friend and it was so good we stayed another night!
As others have said Frances was the perfect hostess and her breakfasts are outstanding!
When we checked in to the room is was made up as a large double but when we informed Frances we were not lesbians she kindly offered to make the beds up separately! When we returned from our evening out the beds were all made up as twins. There is so much character in the house and Frances has thought of everything to please her guests.
The location is so perfect with easy access to Wells centre but set in beautiful peaceful grounds with sheep grazing. It is lovely when you drive back up at night and the sheep are all resting and you can stop the car and watch them slowly and quietly chomping away!
Wells is delightful - full of friendly people and independent shops and cafes and restaurants.
Also the cathedral is a wonder in itself.
The surrounding countryside is so lovely - let's hope the council leave it as it is and don't start building factories and huge housing estates as they have in neighbouring Weston-super-Mare and Bridgewater. It was so fantastic to visit places like Wedmore and find quintessentially English villages and towns that aren't full of Tescos and McDonalds. Please Somerset council keep these places as they are - we have enough monstrosities in other areas.
Thank you Frances for a wonderful stay and hope to meet you again very soon!

Thanks for your review , we always make the Silk Room up as a large double unless guests specifically ask for twin beds. We are always happy to change things if there is a misunderstanding. It was lovely having you stay and it's so nice when new guests using us for the first time decide to stay longer. We also love the surrounding countryside and our unique little city. We would love to look after you again in the future.
