“Not great”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 5, 2013

The cottage we stayed in looked lovely when first walking in, but as soon as I went into the kitchen to make a cup of tea I noticed that all the cups, pans, plates and cutlery were dirty, so we had to clean everything before we could eat or drink. There was also a lot of cobwebs - I know that these are old country barns that have been converted but there were even cobwebs under the bed! And there were loads of spiders too I expected one or two but they were everywhere - not good if you have a phobia of them! However the location is fantastic and the town is very interesting, although my husband and I did find the people in the town a little unfriendly which made us feel a bit uncomfortable at times.
On the plus side our dog loved it and I'm sure she would give it 5 stars!

Thank you for your review of Middlewick. I am so sorry to hear that we let you down during your stay with us. We do try our hardest to make sure that our cottages are all clean and comfortable for people (and their dogs) to stay in. I can only apologise that when you stayed in October this was not the case. As new owners we are still working on our renovations of the property so we would love to have you come back again to stay in one of our newly renovated cottages to see the improvements we are making. Send a note to us at hello@themiddlewick.co.uk and we will sort something out for you. Yours sincerely, Jill Barker

My friends and I stayed in one of the delightful cottages at Middlewick. Our cottage, Pippin, was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. We had three separate bedrooms and a large kitchen and a lounge dining room. We appreciated the washing machine as well. Middlewick is within walking distance of Glastonbury Tor and a short drive to the town. There are so many interesting places to visit not far from Middlewick so it is a great base from which to explore the district. The owners are very friendly and helpful and there is a small shop with some of the basic necessities like delicious ice cream. As it is located out of the town it has a lovely peaceful atmosphere yet it is very convenient as long as you have transport.

Though my stay at Middlewick was short I enjoyed my time there tremendously.
I stayed in one of the new Edens and tried my hand at glamping. The Eden was so fun. I had my own personal porch, a fantastic sunroof over the bed as well as a modern and very aesthetically pleasing building to stay in (with its own barn style door!).

My Eden had a view of the Tor as well as a horse pasture, where very friendly horses grazed peacefully every afternoon.

The hosts as well as guests at Middlewick were very welcoming and friendly. I did not want for anything during my stay there, and felt very comfortable knowing that whatever I needed would be looked after.

I could not have asked for more. This place has so much to offer, and I plan on returning with my family!

We (me, hubby and daughter) stayed in Blenheim cottage. Lots of equipment in the kitchen and the cottage was much bigger than expected for a 2-bed cottage. The building dates from 15th Century with exposed beams, and the fireplace was originally from Glastonbury Abbey! Despite the historical features there was excellent wireless internet connection and a good choice of satellite TV channels. The situation is perfect, very picturesque and daughter loved having animals on site. The pool isn't huge, but is clean and warm and enough for everyone except serious swimmers. The site is really quiet - no traffic noise or light pollution. Owners really friendly and an on-site shop for essential (organic) stuff, but Sainsburys and Co-op nearby. Lots of places to visit nearby (Bath/Wells/Cheddar/Wookey Hole) and some great open mic nights in the town too. A fab base for a holiday - for families or couples. Just take note that mosquitoes love the place too - if it's warm remember repellant/bite cream! Can't wait to go back again...

We have been to Middlewick 5 times now and love the peace and tranquillity of the complex. This is the first time we have stayed in the Eden’s as was curious to see the standard compared to the cottages stayed at previously, we weren’t surprised to find them just as good.

The Edens are a really nice addition glad Jill and Jonathan have added a Glamping element to Middlewick.

The Eden we stayed in was called Eve and had a nice amount of space but most of all is cosy and warm and nicely presented with a fridge which is handy for drinks etc.

Each Eden has a very comfortable bed with nice snugly duvets and pillows and luxury towels and a complimentary bottle of water which we thought was a nice touch :)

Each Eden has a very nice BBQ to cook on located to the side of the Eden and the decking area has chairs and an outdoor beanbag which is nice for chilling outside.

Each Eden has its own private bathroom which is a really nice touch and rather unusual as we have not found this at the other pods we had stayed at.

We loved sitting out on our decking enjoying a drink while watching the sunset with the Tor as our backdrop.

The Complex has a heated indoor swimming pool and sauna and a very well stocked farm shop hosting very nice breakfast boxes which we would highly recommend.

Most of all it has Jill and Jonathan the owner for which nothing is too much trouble which is why we keep going back and also we love the furry resident Labridoodles Maggie and Ellie and not to forget the cats too :)

We have booked again for the 6th time at the end of the August again for the Eden as we both enjoyed it so much:)

There is a pleasant walk from Middlewick to the Tor with nice views from the top, also Clarks Village is a really nice place to visit as is Wells and Glastonbury – both are well worth a visit.

This place was delightfully friendly, clean, easy to feel at home. Our cottage had everything we needed to feel comfortable and unstressed. The owners were always caring, open, helpful and knowledgeable without ever being obtrusive. We were very close to the Tor, within its magic and view. Quick supplies were easily available in the little convenience store at Middlewick. These cottages reflected the heart and should of Glastonbury! All the resident animals helped make it more like home! With much gratitude!

We have just arrived home from Middlewick and I have to say I am feeling somewhat bereft after a wonderful wonderful holiday where we felt right at home. We stayed in Bramley, a gorgeous and quirky old fashioned cottage, full of character, sparkly clean, fully stocked, and with the cutest of communal gardens. The animals were so friendly and entertaining, including the dogs, goats, chickens and cats! So very peaceful and calming.

At Middlewick we really felt as though we were in Southern France(!) with breathtaking views of the countryside, clear blue sky, and the glorious Tor. We walked to the top several times and each time experienced different people and different emotions! Jill and family hold a pizza night which was really enjoyable and a wonderful way to mingle with our neighbours for the week and enjoy the Middlewick community experience. Lovely swimming pool and steam room also.

Nicely stocked on site farm shop, I can recommend the chocolate Mendips ice cream and the cider!

Glastonbury town is a 25-30 minute walk away. So much to see, so rich in culture and character. I would highly recommend the Chalice Well- take some empty bottles and be prepared for a wonderful spiritual experience. The Abbey is interesting and has some wonderful photo opportunities. Drive to Cheddar Gorge caves and Bristol Zoo if you get time, Wells and Street are both well worth a look round too.

Jill thank you for such a lovely week. We will absolutely be back next year!
