“Smallest cottage OK. Just.”
Reviewed November 8, 2011

The cottage was musty and could have been cleaner. The location is great and maybe the larger cottages are better, but the smallest is tired.

Thank you for your review. Appletree Cottage has now been completely renovated. We hope you get the chance to come back to visit us again to see the improvements we have made to Middlewick in our first year here as new owners.

Just come back from a lovely break at Middlewick Cottages. Previously I stayed with my family at Cider House Cottage which was lovely and this time at Tor View which is an amazing wooden lodge, beautifully decorated, with its own private garden and direct views of the Tor, I would definately recommend it.

My friends stayed in Orchard View which had a bit of a damp smell and the lounge needs a revamp although the bedrooms were nice. The new owners appear to be doing up the place, so I imagine this will change soon.

The owners are lovely and couldn't do enough for you. The pool and steam room were very clean and it's a lovely 20 min stroll through the countyside to the Tor and then another 10 mins to Glastonbury High Street and the Abbey.

Very affordable accomodation, with an added bonus of their own goat, chickens and horses.

Room Tip: Ask for Tor View, it's the nicest one there!!

We stayed here for only one night as we live in the South West but my daughter wanted to experience a cottage stay. This was one of the few places we found that allowed short breaks during high season. We stayed in the Cider House, a small two roomed cottage with a living area/kitchen downstairs and a bedroom/bathroom upstairs. The cottage could do with some updating (new sofa/carpets at least) but was comfortable enough and provided value for money.
The children were encouraged to explore the grounds and loved meeting the resident goat. However the star of the show was Maggie the labradoodle who they would happily have taken home. Special thanks to Jill for taking the children to collect eggs from the family chickens.
The pool was clean and warm and my husband made use of the steam room.
My rating was influenced by the musty smell in the cottage (accepting that it is an old building) and the water heater that kept me awake during the night. However I would recommend the property for the other experiences that it offers and its location. The children are very keen to return!

Room Tip: bring a scented candle

We had a fantastic 4 night stay in Russet Cottage with our 4 month old son. The location was spectacular, overlooked by the Tor, quiet, peaceful, a perfect place to relax. The grounds are well loved and looked after and Jill was always around to guide us to beautiful country walks, such as to the 3000 year old oak trees, or only a 30 minute walk into Glastonbury town. JIll provides tasty local food for breakfasts and is passionate about her business. Thank you Jill for a wonderful stay, we'd love to come back to magical Middlewick for another family holiday. x

I was part of a group from the US that stayed here for a week in early October , 2010 and rented all of the rooms. We all loved our little village, and we cooked all of our meals and ate in the big conference room, where we also had a couple of gatherings each day. The location was walking to the Tor which we did several times. And we loved visiting Gog and Magog, the ancient trees of Avalon, which were a short walk from Mapleleaf Middlewick.
I stayed in Blenheim in the double bedded room, and it has a comfortable bed and a beautiful view from two small windows. I loved it! The bathroom was a good size with up to date facilities. Very nice.
Although we had a very cozy living room, we spent most of our time around the kitchen table chatting and checking emails, and this well stocked kitchen was a delight.
I hope this is the first of many visits for me!

Room Tip: Blenheim is great for two or three

We had a great visit, staying in Bramley Cottage. The house was lovely and clean, with lots of charm. The location is spectacular. The new owners have done a lot to improve the place. The pool if very nice and the grounds were beautiful. We particularly liked the weekly pizza evenings that the owners organise, using their big outdoor wood fired pizza oven. Great fun!

Room Tip: Tor view cottage is great.

We recently took our boys (6 and 8) to stay at Jill Barker's Middlewick Holiday cottages. We stayed in the cosy *Springfield* cottage, which felt like home the minute we got there.
The trampoline, and indoor pool were super-popular, as were all of the toys, games and books in the library...The views were STUNNING, and Jill even took us on an (incredibly) early sun-rise walk up to the Tor (just behind the cottages, amazing! - we all needed a nice afternoon nap...:)
The boys loved playing with the resident Labradoodle Maggie too. (and were enchanted by the 'world's smallest tourist information centre' - in an old red phone box!)
We breakfasted outside in the sunshine (Jill provided a fab breakfastbox for us), the gardens are lovely....And we plan to go back with friends later in the year (we can't wait to try out the Shepherd's cottage) - fab all round! (oh, and the home-made cakes from the local camping-site... yum!)

Room Tip: take a swimsuit, and your walking shoes
