“New owner, same perfect service and setting”
Reviewed April 5, 2011

I have been coming to Middlewick for approx. 5 years now.

I was suprised to hear that Middlewick had new owner, but straight away was made welcome. The service is still great, and location and cottages are excellent to come down and relax.

I would recommend this spot to everyone, even if it is for a couple of days.

We (mother and daughter) stayed three days in the Cider House and those were the best days of our holiday. The quietness, the beautiful views and surroundings, not to mention the whole atmosphere of a true English cottage. Swimming in a lovely heated indoor pool, invited to a pizza night with neighbours. Both the current and previous owner and co-workers were very friendly and hospitable. My compliments!!!

We stayed at Mapleleaf for one night after going to a family wedding in Bristol from the first call nothing was to much trouble and Jill the new owner was so friendly.

We found the cottage's very easily and first impressions were good and Appletree cottage was so quant and charming the area around the cottage is so pretty and its so quiet and chilled!! also like to mention they also have cooker and hob and fridge which isn't mentioned on the webpage so you can self cater very easily!!
We were then showed around the swimming pool and sauna by Manager Shirley who is also very friendly the pool area is very nice and the pool is lovely and open from 7am until 9pm which is pretty good we thought!! and the pool is lovely and warm but we were not sure what it would be like so we didn't take swimmys:( But will next time we will:)

We then were shown the stiles and given the directions to the Tor and you can see the Tor from the cottages and after a quick change then 20 mins walk you reach the Tor and wow that climbs well worth it the views are awesome! Then walk down the otherside and follow the track and walk into Glastonbury Ive never been before but loved Glasto lots of wierd and wonderful shops but adds the the charm tbh:) A taxi back costs about £8 and can get one easily enough.

On our return we got a personal introduction from Jill the new owner and Maggie the most gorgous labridoodle and Jill is such a lovely lady, We have stayed in self catering and many hotels in our time traveling but we have not ever stayed anywhere which has so much charm and friendly ness.

We both felt so rested and chilled and as we told Jill we will defo be coming back really soon. Jill has lots of plans for the future and hope they all come to fruition as its sounds amazing and for now we have both been enchanted by Mapleleaf Middlewick cottages and Glastonbury and were very sad to leave and haven't felt like that for a long time and going back soon !!!!!

Room Tip: Very relaxing and lovely area

We have stayed here a handful of times now and have always had a great experience at Middlewick. The location is gorgeous- at the base of the Tor and a short walk into Glastonbury. The kids love the place with all of its lovely gardens and fields and especially the indoor pool. We never run out of things to do in the area. They are now dog friendly in a couple of cottages so we even brought along our dog on this visit. The cottages are charming, a little dated but really comfortable to stay in as they are all kitted out with everything you could need for a stay. We will be going back again.

What a disappointment this was. On the face of it the location was great and price reasonable.

However, we did not expect a tired and dirty cottage with old and uncomfortable furniture and a bathroom which had not been updated since the 1960's. What added insult to injury was the owners attitude in response - to say they were unfriendly and rude is an understatement. Their basic unhelpful attitude was if we didn't like it then we could leave. We were made to feel very unwelcome and ended up leaving early simply to salvage what remained of our precious family holiday.

Anyone wishing to stay here should be aware that while the location is great, the cottages are not up to standard and are very basic. Lastly the owners are rude, unwelcoming and unhelpful. My advice is to see the smallprint before you book - they definitely do not want you to spend time at the cottage during the day and expect you to leave the site (just one of several very irritating and intrusive rules and regulations you find out about once you get there). This was not our idea of a relaxing cottage rental in England. BE WARNED!

We are sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay at Middlewick last year. Luckily your experience was not the norm, however we'd like to inform you the complex is now under new ownership.

My husband and I spent a lovely long weekend in Pippin cottage with our daughter and young family. The cottage was spacious, very clean, beds very comfortable and well equipped. The people running the complex were extremely helpful with the one or two small items that needed attention and also involved our young grandchildren with the horses and chickens on the farm. The children loved the very warm swimming pool and the resident therapist did an excellent job of de-stressing with her massage in the relaxing "pamper cabin" on site. The views from the well kept and peaceful gardens are stunning and the walks around the area are lovely . We would be very happy to return to Middlewick cottages again .

Just returned from 5 nights at the Mapleleaf and it was PERFECT! We had the Cider House cottage which had a little kitchen, living room and upstairs bedroom. Very private, very quiet. We were a group of 26 and everyone loved the place. Each 'cottage' was just a little different.
It is also in a perfect location away from Glastonbury. A 7 minute drive or a beautiful walk over the Tor right to the Chalice Well.
