“A ploughman's lunch that deserves a medal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2014

If ever you want to be surprised by a mundane lunch such as a ploughman's, drop into this pleasant eatery and you'll be delighted with the version you will be served. You'll be given a selection of excellent cheeses and pickles, fruit and salad, but the 'piece de resistance' is the soda bread that is served on a separate plate. It is delicious and its a pity that the recipe is "Mom's secret" and that all that can be revealed is that she puts in "lots of seeds and love'. I wish I did not live 800 miles away.

“Has gone downhill a bit”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2014 via mobile

We came to this cafe last year and was very impressed with the service and the food. However on our return this year, although the food was still wonderful, the service was lacking. The staff weren't particularly friendly and weren't very accommodating for my young daughter, they don't offer a kids menu and refused to sell us a half portion of anything - meaning we had to pay £7.50 for a meal for our child. A little more flexibility would have been nice.

There were also no highchairs on offer.

All in all slightly disappointed as the menu is great but the unfriendly staff have put us off returning again.

“Great atmosphere and lovely food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2014

You have the choice of dining inside or out in the coutyard next to the second hand bookshop. Service was prompt and the staff very friendly. The food was slightly dearer than some nearby but it looked and tasted wonderful. The ploughman's came with walnut and olive soda bread and local chutney. Worth a visit.

“Excellent food and great service”

Dunster is a really pretty village and the castle is a fabulous place to visit. There are lots of eateries on the high street as there is pretty much a constant stream of visitors coming into town. With that the offerings can be rather mixed but I must say we hit upon a gem here.

For anyone requiring a gluten free diet I cannot recommend it highly enough. The guys have a dedicated menu for us difficult eaters including several tarts, pasties and even Apple Pie. Yum! Actual choice! The 'normal' food I'm assured is fab too!

“Decent cake”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2014 via mobile

Just had coffee and cake here today, hubby had ice cream. Sat in garden which is a lovely suntrap. Decent coffee and a very decent sized slice of coffee cake. Cafes know how to charge for homemade cake and I have been disappointed elsewhere recently but this was value for money. Friendly too.
