“Decent accommodation but at a high price”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2013

This was my second stay at this hotel, returning to it for a weekend break after 10 years. We chose the hotel because it's dog friendly, because of its excellent location and because of our good experience in the past.
The rooms were clean and reasonably well furnished but lacked significantly in any sense of loveliness. The furniture was a little tired and not very well positioned (despite a good sized-room, it all looked a little cluttered). The real problem was that we paid £240 for two nights' of accommodation, which included the dog (often costs extra in other places) and a rather mediocre breakfast (again, more reminiscent of the 1980s). I am happy to spend a night in hotels like this, but I would expect to pay £60-75 per night, not £120.
If you want to stay somewhere special, I would recommend looking elsewhere until the pricing reflect what is being delivered more realistically.

Thank you for your comments which are most helpful. Our standard double rooms for a 2 night stay in September were indeed £60 per person per night at weekends, but our midweek rate was slightly cheaper.
You are correct that there is no charge for a dog.
We do have an ongoing programme of refurbishment in our rooms, and your particular room is scheduled to be updated, but we only permit dogs in certain rooms.

This hotel makes a refreshing change from impersonal hotel chains and their rabbit-hutch rooms and carefully-proportioned facilities. The building itself started in a single house with five rooms. The owner, over 20 years, has expanded into the neighbouring premises to form an intriguing and pleasant warren. Very clean, with friendly efficient staff and excellent food. The menu is limited and local fresh ingredients are used. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay of four days. we shall certainly return and recommend to friends.

Have just returned from another visit to the Yarn Market Hotel in the centre of Dunster village. I have stayed several times in the past in a number of different rooms and always had a good night's sleep.
The rooms are spotlessly clean and have all the essentials.
Breakfasts are sometimes very busy if the hotel is full, but the buffet is regularly replenished and the staff are always helpful. I adore the coffee.
Will be back!

We enjoyed our 2 night break here over the August BH weekend. We actually booked online the Thursday before and had very few choices in the area. No complaints on any major element of our stay. The room and food were commensurate with the rate we paid. We appreciated having a ticket to park free in a local car park about 300m away. The hotel has about 7 spaces right outside. You have to get up early to move your car into one of them. Also the hotel has a 50% discount voucher for Dunster Castle which saved us £10.

if ya lucky you will get a nice room but its a gamble are you willing to take....i wrote a review recently and thought maybe i was a little unfair but now looking back on it and found they are still charging seriously over the top for some rooms be warned and ifya in a big group dont expect a good breakfast..for that money id like to be waited on not go and get it myself..but saying all this the staff are the best thing about this hotel, very freindly...other than that stay some where else or ask to see rooms first and see the huge different in quality even though price stays the same stay clear of room 21

Room Tip: see all the rooms before you decide!!! but over priced

We are sorry you feel that your stay was overpriced. We do reduce our room rate for midweek stays and longer visits, but cannot offer lower rates for one night stays at weekends. We did make the goodwill gesture of returning at no cost by Royal Mail Special Delivery the mobile phone charger and earring which were left in the room.

Just spent a splendid weekend at the Yarn market hotel. We were travelling with our West Highland Terrier - and still had a room with a four poster bed. We were made very welcome, the room and en-suite bathroom were nicely decorated and spotlessly clean. On arrival we were checked in immediately even though we were early and our bags were carried to our room for us. As we were only in the area for the weekend we did not eat in the restaurant but chose to be up early and out - Dunster village superb - fantastic to find no Indian, no Chinese and no fish and chips on the high street. We would like to give our sincere thanks to all at The Yarn for making our stay a fantastic one.

Room Tip: Have only given a three rating for sleep quality - nothing to do with the hotel - just the church be...

in the High Street opposite the old Yarn Market, couldn't be better. The staff were very friendly and the rooms were very comfortable. The hotel has been upgraded and extended since my first visit many years ago. I didn't have dinner there but the menu looked very good and the breakfast was excellent - good quality sausages and bacon and a good selection of hot and cold food.

Room Tip: The High Street isn't noisy at nights so a room facing the High Street does give you wonderful v...
