Description: Situated at the base of Cheddar Gorge, (Britain's largest inland gorge) The Riverside Inn offers a large, family friendly pub with something for everyone. The pub itself can be split into 5 areas. 1 Lounge Bar, 2 Sports Bar, 3 Restaurant, 4 Garden and 5 Kids Play Area. Our sports bar (With Sky Sports) has 3 televisions independently operated allowing for maximum sports coverage, along with seating for 40 plus ample standing room, with food served all day. We also provide a Dart Board when live events aren't on. For when sport isn't on we use our jukebox system linked to both internal and external speakers to add a little life to the evening. The lounge bar offers a contrasting atmosphere to the lively active sports bar with food available and seating for 35+. Sink into one of our leather sofas or take a seat at one of the tables, just be sure to relax, then sit back and enjoy. We offer a range of daily papers for your convenience as-well as a selection of local media to take with you. Just through from our lounge bar is our Restaurant and Conservatory. Capable of seating 90 our Restaurant offers views of the gorge and surrounding hills, as-well as a look at the river Yeo as it runs on by. In the restaurant we offer table service. The restaurant is also available for full or part hire. Ideal for use as a function room for dining parties, whatever your need, we will always do our utmost to accommodate. Sadly, at this time, we have to mention we are not licensed for weddings, however we are always more than happy to help with the reception.Bookings can be taken for the restaurant internally by phone or email. Round the back of the pub is the Garden and Kids Play area. With seating for 180+ outside there's plenty of room to enjoy yourselves. The river Yeo is situated at the back of the garden over our very own little river. Behind the sports bar is our patio area with heat lights, covered smoking area and music available. Our non smoking decked area is also covered with heat lights for those with children or those wishing to avoid smoking areas. As with inside, food is served all day but for outside you will need to order at the bar. Tabs available with card details. Here at The Riverside Inn we serve food from 8am for breakfast right through till 9:30 for the late diners too. From all of us here at The Riverside Inn we hope to see or hear from you soon

“A pub/restaurant which is "all things to all people".”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

Went to The Riverside Inn with my wife while on holiday in Cheddar for an evening meal. The pub/restaurant has several different sections. There is the restaurant part in a large conservatory at the back (some diners had booked, but we hadn't, but managed to get a seat anyway). There were also numerous tables in the open air (summer) by the riverside for diners or those who just wanted a drink. There is also a bar to the right of the pub which has Sky Sports, mostly used by locals: from here there is also a covered outside part, also mostly used by the locals. This all reminds me of the olden days of pubs with a "public" bar and a "lounge" bar (there is also one of the latter with a separate entrance at the front where you can have bar food). Before 6.30, the meals are cheaper, so we had starters & mains (soup, then burgers & chips). The food was all of a good standard & the service very polite. On the bill, they forgot to add the price of the drinks (but we pointed this out anyway).

“Appalling dishonest service”
Reviewed August 17, 2013 via mobile

We went for dinner here with our two children 2 & 8 as we were stopping nearby. They play area and parking appealed to us and as it looked busy we thought it would be a good place to eat! How wrong we're we!

Having arrived at just after 6pm we were planning on having an early dinner. We got put on table in the restaurant that was by the door, not ideal but seeing as they were quite busy didn't initially mind.
We ordered our mains and some nachos to start as the children like these and we thought we wouldn't be waiting very long for our mains, the nachos arrived after about 5 minutes they were burnt on the edges however the cheese wasn't even melted properly, they were accompanied by guacamole and salsa neither of which were very nice. We then waited for over 40 minutes and still no main courses, 2 tables that had arrived after us had been served their main courses and didn't wait anymore than 20 minutes! For some reason they were ignoring us and in spite of our young children, not bringing meals out in time order, I managed to attract the attention of a middle aged lady who seemed bemused at me asking why we hadn't had our meals yet, she advised me the other tables I had seen getting food were only having starters not mains- definitely not the case, she advised our meals would be arriving after another table had their food- this table was one of the ones that had arrived after us! When our food finally arrived my husbands mixed grill was massively overcooked and the majority of it was inedible. My meal was off the specials menu and was red mullet with potatoes and seasonal vegetables, the mullet was overcooked and the vegetables were boiled broccoli, cauliflower and carrot, not what I would expect on a specials menu! My 2 year old daughter ate none of her food having waited over an hour for it and having spent the last 20 minutes asking where her dinner was, had gone past hungry!

The same waitress as earlier came over and asked if everything was ok, I advised no we had waited an awfully long time for our food and that she had been dishonest about other tables getting their mains before us, she made a number of ridiculous excuses and dishonest comments to which I advised I did not wish to argue with her I just expected better service, an apology and not to be lied to.... This member of staff shrugged and walked off!! How very very rude!

We paid and left. Would never return to this establishment and certainly wouldn't recommend it!

“Kids play area, good food = happy parents!”
Reviewed August 13, 2013 via mobile

Sometimes it's not all about the food and certainly here it's not. The food was fine, nothing to write home about but absolutely nothing to complain about either. They accommodated our sons needs with his food too which was great!

We both dined and had a drink here on a few occasions during our Cheddar stay mainly so our little boy could play and run around the play area for a while so it's very child friendly!

We asked for some ice lollies one day but they'd sold out but the lovely bar man told us to nip across the road for an ice cream and no bother about the "only food bought on premises rule" for that which is lovely for a disappointed little boy to hear!! (& very grateful parents!!!!!)

“Riverside Inn, Cheddar”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

My husband and I visited this pub twice during our stay. The first time we sat outside listening to live music with local cider which was great. The second time we ate there in the conservatory restaurant and used our Tastecard (you need to book 24 hours in advance for this). The food was bistro prices but really only average pub food. The service was very slow and the staff were not aware of the contents of the menu.
