We weren't sure whether to visit Cheddar Gorge & Caves when we visited the area in November. Thought it may be a bit over-commercialized or would have model dinosaurs dotted throughout (like some other caves we have visited)...but how wrong we were. It was a very enjoyable experience with no dinosaurs to be seen. The audio guide was easy to use, informative and light-hearted. The caves were un-spoilt with only lights to enhance them. And the best part was, visiting in November made for a relaxing visit as there was only a handful of other people there at the same time. No crowds hustling you along before we were ready.... After a nice latte in Costa Coffee, we climbed Jacobs Ladder to the lookout tower. It was a bit strenuous and I found muscles in my legs that I did not know I had! But the views made it worthwhile.

Great place to visit if you are in the area. Great day out for all. Parking in the area is expensive £18 per ticket to go into the gorge but it is well worth it, steeped in history its a great day out. Need to be fairly mobile as there are parts that are a tight squeeze!!

This is a great family day out and is a full day out as well.
Parking was a bit expensive but there were plenty of spaces to park.
The village itself had lovely shops, restaurants and pubs so there are plenty of places to eat and drink.
We went to Goughs cave first and given an audioguide tour which explained each section of the cave and its history.s we walked through each section of the caves we were amazed at the sheer size of them.Lighting had been used to make them look more effective so we were able to take photographs. There was even matured cheddar cheese stored in the cave which can be bought in the shop.
The other cave was Cox"s Cave, this again was well lit up but told more of a story.
My only complaint was that we were rushed through quite quickly so felt unable to take our time taking photographs.
Back outside the caves you could take a walk up 274 steps to the lookout tower which gave a fantastic view of the gorge and village. From the bottom of the lookout tower, there is a National Trust path that is the start of a lovely cliff top walk,it takes about 2 hours and you do need good walking boots.
We took a picnic so we would stop for a break and took in the stunning views.
It is a circular walk if you want to complete it,but we took the road back to the car instead but it was a fabulous walk to do.
There were plenty of people including children who were certainly having a great time doing the gorge walk. Also great places for rock climbing. This is a great day out for all the family and we would certainly visit again.

Went to Cheddar Gorge today thinking we would get ripped off having read numerous reviews before we went. Whilst you do have to pay to park: today it was £3 for the full day, it was also possible to park for free by Edinburgh Wool Company. Having read it cost £18.50 for the attractions this is for entry into 4 attractions; 2 of which are caves with very knowledgeable guides. If we had had time today we could have just paid the £5 entry to the steps and view point and on to the walk around the rim of the gorge. As it was we spent £3 to park and then walked up through the gorge. We thoroughly enjoyed the walk with the amazing scenery, watching the climbers attempting the rock walls and stopping on the way back down to have a long and interesting chat with one of the very knowledgeable guides who was having a break outside the cave and willing to chat to us about the caves and the role of the guides. A great day out.

On arrival we felt this was a little expensive, but as we were there, went in anyway. How wrong we could be! It was excellent value. Very interesting audio tour in the caves and you had a great view of the caves. It was very well done inside - still very natural without too many intrusive signs or barriers. We visited everything - including the cheese making - and thoroughly enjoy
