“A lovely place!”
Reviewed November 27, 2009

My partner and i spent a wonderful weekend at Austen guest house in Bath, Somerset.
We planned a romantic weekend and many B&B´s we phoned earlier were not too enthusiastic that we only wanted to stay two nights. Finally we came across Marians´ B&B and good for us that we did!
We have never been welcomed so warmy before, we were offered tea or any other hot beverage of our choice. Due to our long travel we gratefully accepted her kind offer.
After we had finally warmed up marian showed us our clean and beautifully tidy room, arranged with beautiful furniture and fresh flowers.
We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast with fresh fruit, homemade bread and a great choice of juices, never have experienced such a huge range of layouts for breakfast.
All what´s left to say is that we had a great stay at Austen guest house with such a kind and friendly mistress.
Thank you marian for giving us a wonderful habitation in your beautifully kept house!!

we stayed here one night, so we could see the sights of Bath. The lady was very lovely and helpful, to tell us information about the area and how to get to places. We ditched the car at the b&b and walked into town. The room was a great size, clean, we had our own private bathroom, we where aloud to use their own private kitchen to reheat our food for dinner: not many places let u do that! The breakfast was large with a nice variety. After we finished breakfast there was left overs, so the owner asked us if we would like to take the meat and bread and make sandwichs for lunch free of charge!!! Wow we thought and thanked her. She doesnt like to reuse her meat, and food like others will. We had a great time here!! and highly recommend it to anyone.

I spent 5 nights in the Austen Guest House and would happily do so again. I was lucky, as a single, to be given a double-bedded room at a reasonable rate. The spotless bath was private to my use only and just a few steps from my room. I found the room comfortable, sufficient to my needs. There are 3 rooms at the top of a wide staircase, mine overlooked the rear garden, and was quiet.

It's unfortunate that one guest had a poor experience with the substitute host, as Marian proved to be a treasure trove with information of the area & little known pearls of information. I never travel without a small pocket torch, which doesn't diminish the fact that a light should have been left on for guests. Apparently the hosts need are more competent substitute when they are absent.

I was fortuntate that the other 2 rooms were occupied by a thoughtful Italian family who were careful about loud talk, banging doors, tv volume. Breakfast was served at a large table in the bright & pleasant dinning room. I liked this concept because it created conversation rather than silent, clattering, scraping utensil noises & whispered talk - like everyone else has the plague. If you want to be alone, ask for private seating!

Others comment about proximity to town center - it's a dang steep climb for this old gal.

Marian was a wonderful hostess to me (her husband also) despite the fact I left with the room key in my pocket - posted from the next stop!

The hosts were on holiday, leaving the inn in the care of a rather disinterested young lady who could offer no advice as to getting around Bath except for a terse "I'm not from this area."
We came back to the B&B around 10 pm to find the house completely dark-no outside light, no foyer light, no apparent regard for our safety.
Streetside room very noisy with traffic throughout the night, and the sidewalk apparently a gathering place for conversation and shouting throughout the night.
Rooms are clean, bed comfortable, breakfast as expected althogh never enough coffee to go around for some reason, so we would have to seek out the indifferent young woman when we wanted more.
Overall OK, but not really what we expected for our first-ever B&B experience.

I stayed with a friend for a couple of nights and it was great. A house with a character. Nice, clean room & bathroom, excellent breakfast. The host Mariane was very friendly and hospitable, and she told us many interesting things about Bath, and also gave us some useful tips.
I would definitely recommend it, and hopefully will return there someday myself.

We were looking for a nice B&B in Bath for a short stay and thanks to Trip Advisor we discovered this little gem. We chose this B&B as it is difficult to get a good B&B that has rooms with one double and one single bed in them. We have one son who is 11 and don't really like to stay in rooms with a put up bed or a couch and the Austen Guest house didn't disappoint at all. The room was Bright and comfortable, beautifully decorated with very comfortable beds that ensured a great nights sleep. There was a TV, hairdryer, Tea and Coffee facilities in the room and the Bathroom was spotless and all very newly done. The breakfast was lovely with freshly baked bread, perfect for a long day of exploring the beautiful city of Bath and beyond. Bath centre is only a 10 minute walk away and there are plenty of places nearby to eat and drink. Parking is not a problem either, but you don't really need a car to explore Bath as it is very accessible by foot. We however wanted to visit Longleat and Stonehenge which are both quite near and we will definitely go back to the Austen Guest house when we return to Bath.
Marian was a brilliant hostess and was great at pointing out local places of interest and places to eat etc.

Extremely hospitable, well kept guest house. We stayed for a friday and saturday night and were very happy.
Rooms nicely furnished and very clean, the continental breakfast was of excellent quality, and the hosts were extremely friendly, I wish we had longer to talk !
The house is located a 10 minute walk from the train station, and has a bus stop opposite. Additionally there is a bistro/restaurant minutes away from the house, so if you arrive late (as we did) you don't have to walk far for dinner.
Thankyou Marian for a lovely stay
