Description: Situated next to the Theatre Royal in the centre of Bath, the Garrick's Head Pub and and Dining Room offers a delicious selection of locally inspired dishes. Using seasonal ingredients and making everything fresh on site the kitchen serves traditional pub dishes such as fresh cod in beer batter with triple cooked chips and "the best burger in Bath" to more complex creations, Venison steak with a mini cottage pie of venison or poached Guinea fowl with wild garlic both popular at the moment. The Garrick's Head is ideally situated for pre Theatre dining as it is directly next door to the theatre so you are only minutes from your seat. Often described as a country pub in the city centre the Garrick's Head has roaring fires, four real ales and over 50 whiskeys, very much a pub with a dining room there are also over 50 seats outside on the terrace, perfect for watching Baths beautiful people come and go.

“Great chips, lousy service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2014

We visited at the end of a difficult day, and they were just clearing the pre-theatre rush. We sat down in the restaurant and ordered, and waited and waited. A large party came in about 25 minutes after we did, while we were still waiting. After another 25 minutes, they got their first courses, and we were still waiting. I'm pretty sure our order was never put in. I told the bar man that we had been waiting nearly an hour, and about 10 minutes later, our food came. It was piping hot and much better than I had been expecting, which made the day at least end on a positive note. My boyfriend had steak and chips, and the chips in particular were especially good. The best I had on the entire trip (and we had LOTS of chips on the trip). If they can get their service problems worked out, it would be a good place to eat.

“definitely 'best fish 'n' chips in Bath'”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2014

A beautiful Easter Monday in Bath, and there are so many good places to lunch. Decided to go to one we had not been to before. We were tempted into the Garrick by the 'best fish 'n' chips in Bath' blackboard.
Promptly seated, iced water poured from a jug with ice and lemon, and the jug left on our table. What a difference that little touch makes! Cloth napkins, so a step up from the normal pub restaurant!
The fish was indeed excellent : a thick chunk of cod, in perfect crispy beer batter, served on a layer of very minty sweet mushed peas. Accompanied by a generous portion of triple-cooked, or possibly even quadruple-cooked, chunky chips. A generous pot of home-made tartare sauce completed the plate.
Huge wine list - the cheapest was £17, which seemed steep, but it was very good - and it is really more of a gastropub than a pub, after all.

Service was friendly and efficient, though we were the only customers, so it was no test for them.

We will go again, and might even try something different!

“A lucky encounter”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2014 via mobile

Looking for a meal on Sunday evening and not knowing the city well, we stumbled on The Garricks Head advertising the two course Sunday roast. We were not disappointed! The service was friendly and struck a good balance between being attentive and giving us enough space to enjoy our meal. My lamb melted in the mouth and the desserts were sumptuous.

“Unexpected gem in Bath”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2014

We dined here ahead of a visit to the theatre and were very pleasantly surprised (amazed actually) by the quality of the food in the fairly modest looking establishment. Two of us had the rabbit main which was stupendously good : rich, succulent and flavourful. Washed down with an excellent and very reasonably priced Cote du Rhone, we were delighted with our choice and would recommend this establishment to anyone, whether dining pre - theatre or just wanting to enjoy a relaxed lunch or dinner, with excellent fare at highly reasonable prices
