Description: The Bathwick Boatman is a tranquil slice of gastronomic heaven, located just 10 minutes stroll from Bath's city centre on the picture-perfect banks of the River Avon. Run by husband and wife restaurateur team Ben and Rosy Hall, the restaurant is set in an old rowing club with beautiful river views and a cosy, rustic ambience. After training in Italy and Spain, Ben worked in Miami before returning home to Britain, and his simple, seasonal menu is full of robust flavours and represents good old-fashioned value for money. The Bathwick Boatman has a divine summer terrace, and is perched just above Bath's historic boating station, where you can hire a punt or a rowing boat for a post-meal paddle.

“Fab reception and great food!”
Reviewed February 14, 2014 via mobile

Really would give 4 1/2 stars if I could. Reception was lovely. We were off to a formal ball and the venue didn't let down at all. The food was excellent and freshly prepared on time. Will certainly go again!

“Excellent lunch experience”
Reviewed February 14, 2014

We took a friend for lunch at the Bathwick Boatman to celebrate her birthday and had a most enjoyable experience! The location is quite superb on the banks of the River Avon and the service is informal and friendly.

The food was quite excellent - I had gammon in a cheese and mustard sauce that was delicious and the portions do not leave you feeling short changed, as is often the case in other restaurants.
Food and wine are very reasonably priced.

All in all thoroughly to be recommended and we will be back!

“fantastic end to our mini honeymoon!”
Reviewed February 13, 2014

For our last night we booked into the Bathwick Boatman, we were not disappointed.
The setting is lovely, just by the river with a balcony looking out onto the water. The Interior is decorated with candles and fairy lights setting of the natural rustic feel to the place perfectly.
The most important point obviously is the food, this was fab, We shared the prawns and calamari to start the sauce accompanying the prawns was the best I've ever had so much so that we had to finish it of with the bread.
The main courses were delicious and plentiful and as for desserts I wish I could have eaten more.

What really makes this places though is the friendly feel you get as soon as you walk in the door Rosy made us feel truly welcome and that nothing was too much trouble. The service was the best we have whilst in Bath !!

Thank you guys for a great end to our break.

“Disappointing food, but friendly service”
Reviewed February 12, 2014

We visited for dinner but considering the rave reviews about the food we were disappointed. It is very basic food, and presented in a basic way. The starter of goats cheese is just that with some bread. I had gammon with a flavourless white sauce & mashed potato for my main, and my whole meal was lukewarm. My husband had venison stew which he said was hot but not particularly tasty. We decided to skip dessert. Having said that the lady serving us was very pleasant, friendly and helpful and the surroundings cosy. It's just a shame the food isn't more impressive.

Oh no! What a shame it was disappointing for you, the venison went down a treat with all the other diners that night I'm sorry it didn't appeal to you. As for the gammon dish with a mustard-cheese sauce - well lukewarm is definitely not acceptable, and we did a check back to make sure you were happy, but maybe you didn't want to say anything. I'm sorry. As for the goats cheese starter, it is grilled and on toast with dressed salad and some red onion caramelised in balsamic vinegar and caraway. Our food is simple and tasty but it shouldn't be lukewarm. I am very sorry it was a disappointing meal for you. Thank you for your nice comments about the service though, that's very much appreciated. Kind regards, Rosy

“An all round dining experience”
Reviewed February 2, 2014

This restaurant has an excellent location by the river. We were staying in the centre of bath and it took 5 mins to walk here. The decor reflects the riverside location and creates an authentic environment for eating. The food was excellent - we both chose different fish options but were attracted to many of the other choices on offer. These included venison and goat. All produce is locally sourced and the flavours were outstanding. Wines are reasonably priced (starting at £15) and we shared a very good bottle of white wine. The desserts were also delicious and tasted homemade. We look forward to going again, next time we are in Bath. The service was friendly and efficient
