Description: The Bathwick Boatman is a tranquil slice of gastronomic heaven, located just 10 minutes stroll from Bath's city centre on the picture-perfect banks of the River Avon. Run by husband and wife restaurateur team Ben and Rosy Hall, the restaurant is set in an old rowing club with beautiful river views and a cosy, rustic ambience. After training in Italy and Spain, Ben worked in Miami before returning home to Britain, and his simple, seasonal menu is full of robust flavours and represents good old-fashioned value for money. The Bathwick Boatman has a divine summer terrace, and is perched just above Bath's historic boating station, where you can hire a punt or a rowing boat for a post-meal paddle.

“Excellent food, great atmosphere and views, very child friendly”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2012

We have lived in Bath for the best part of our lives but as we live in another part of town, only just stumbled upon the Bathwick Boatman. We loved it. When you arrive at an eatery with two small grandchildren in tow (3 months and 3 years), it is not always that you get such an accommodating reception. All staff were brilliant. The choices on the small menu all sounded delightful and were beautifully presented - and above all tasted great. Their choice of vegetarian options was also imaginative and delicious, as 3 of our party enthusiastically confirmed.

We sat on a balcony overlooking the river on a beautiful day, and I would not have liked to be anywhere else that lunchtime.

One of the things I liked best about the place is that they do not have a "children's menu" which assumes that all children like just nuggests and chips, but they instead provide half portions of all the mains. Other restaurants take note.

“Beautiful Setting and Fab food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2012

The staff here couldn't be more welcoming. We recently enjoyed Sunday lunch and some good wine here. The home made roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings are to die for along with the desserts.
Would love to return on a clearer day and sit outside.

“Lovely food in a very pleasant setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2012

We recently met here for a family lunch as a group of seven. Several members of the party had been before and were keen to return.
The setting is lovely, backing on to the river. There is outside seating but, given English weather, you have to be lucky or prepared (ie dressed warmly!). We ate inside in the simply and tastefully decorated interior.
The service was faultless, and extremely pleasing on the eye.
The food was generally good to excellent, though we found the quantities a bit on the light side - perhaps that was the "lunch" sizes! The grilled goat's cheese and the home smoked salmon were standout starters. The sea bass was well cooked, but rather light on the fish. The pasta with Tuscan sausage was excellent, but needed some greenery - salad or veg.
Definitely on my itinerary when I go back to Bath.

“Excellent quality really tasty meals”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 30, 2012

Tucked away in Bathwick is the quaint little riverside building that oozes British style. This is the third time I have been to this restaurant and I was not dissapointed at all I left wondering why it had taken so long for me to go back. For starters we had goats cheese with homemade onion chutney and garlic chili prawns shell on. Both were excellent and came with lots of bread. For mains we enjoyed chicken stuffed with feta and wrapped in pancetta which was moist and delicious and sirloin in pepper corn sauce and brandy. This sauce is my favourite steak sauce ever, the wine was top notch. Staff were Freindly attentive and welcoming. The boatman is very small so best to book . All food appears to be freshley prepared and sourced. I totally rate this place its not cheap but worth the dosh
