The Hop Pole has the best atmosphere in Bath. The food is perfect, the drink is exceptional and the service is beyond compare. The beer garden is a small escape from city life. A treat.
You should come here just for the general manager, he is one of a kind!!

I had a meal here with two others on a Sunday afternoon and sat in the garden for a drink initially which was gorgeous (the garden and the drink). Sat in the restaurant for a meal and the setting was very warm, cosy and nicely done. The waiter and bar staff were very friendly, professional and helpful. The roast potatoes were the best I have ever tasted and there was an offer to have more roasts and veg if you have a bigger appetite. We had the chocolate brownie dessert (that wasn't on the menu but I had seen reviews of it and asked it we could possibly have a portion and we had some- delicious). Overall, I would say that the service was a tad slow and I did hear another woman complain about this, but we weren't in a rush and we didn't mind waiting. In fact, the lady did seem to be complaining about a lot of things rather loudly, and I think the waiter handled her very well. He was very polite and apologetic (meat was cold apparently) and made sure she was happy in the end. So, if you want a relaxing meal in a very pleasant environment with lovely staff, good ale and reasonable prices you won't go far wrong here. If you did have something to complain about I would raise it with them politely and I'm confident that they would go out of their way to make sure that you had an enjoyable meal (and you go to the gardens across the road to work off the brownie after).

Many thanks for your kind review, it means a lot to us that you took the time out to post this.

Glad you enjoyed the newly-spruced up garden - it is a lovely place to get away!

We're thrilled to hear the highest possible praise for the roast potatoes, really is great to hear.

Again, not a problem at all about the brownie - always happy to help as much as possible.

Unfortunately, the service was a tad slow as you said which we can only apologise. While there is no excuse, we got a fair few orders in a short time with a very small kitchen, the chefs worked tremendously hard and got the food out as quickly as they could.

The waiter you mention is our Supervisor, Dennis, and does draw many well-earned compliments as his demeanour is nothing but pleasant and always puts in maximum care and effort into his work.

You're very kind for mentioning to raise complaints to us - it really is valued feedback for us, and we like to run by the motto "If you're not 100% satisfied, please give us the chance to make it so". Each and every customer that walks through the door is important to us, no matter if they want a pint of beer or a three course meal - we work hard to try and create a good reputation for ourselves and know just how easy it is to lose it if we are not at the top of our game.

Thank you once more, we do hope we see you again at The Hop Pole soon!

We sat outside in the garden which was nice, spacious, and our boys (4 and 1) were able to run around a bit. The staff was friendly and helpful. I had the pork chop with red pepper and hazelnut pesto...unique and delicious! My favorite part was the thick, warm brownie and strawberry ice cream. It was beyond fabulous. Dinner was reasonably priced and The Hop Pole is right across the street from a huge playground in Victoria Park....the perfect place to work off that brownie.

Great service, great atmosphere, great food, great drinks!! It's a must visit!!
The staff are a cut above the rest, friendly, helpful, knowledgable and clearly well versed in great service, yet remaining individuals within that. Food is always piping hot, beautifully presented and great value for money, it is always hard to find a great Sunday roast, and I do try others but keep returning to the Hop Pole! At 13.95 for thick slabs of rare topside accompanied with home made Yorkshires, served with red cabbage, sweet mash (seasoned beautifully) carrots and spring green cabbage! Most importantly with piping hot deep rich gravy (which I even asked for more and was presented with quickly!!) Would love the chef to share his gravy secrets!! If you love a bargain check out the amazing beef burger and pint for a tenner on a Monday, or the scrummy chicken ham and mushroom pie on the Tuesday!! Can't get enough! Don't be deceived by the small frontage, it is a tardis, masking one of Baths best kept secrets - the garden!! Don't all come at once as I love it, and want to keep a seat for us!! It's a must try, it consistently delivers so you won't be disappointed!!

Thank you very much for your very kind words - it is a joy to receive such feedback and share it with the team here.

We certainly realise how important customer service is and I'm glad the hard work we put in to constantly improve hasn't gone unnoticed.

Maybe I am a little biased, but I do find our Sunday roasts a fantastic plate of food - we're thrilled they always live up to expectation and are always happy to offer any required extras. We'd never want you to leave hungry!

Our early-week offers have been a huge success and at £10 for proper pub food and fantastic beer, we're pleased they offer such great value too!

Thank you once more, and hopefully you'll enjoy the garden even more now that it's been spruced up a little!

Stopped by after a long day walking through Bath. Had a great local dark ale called " The Dark Side" and a chicken pie good.
