Description: When the King William restaurant in Bath was converted from the knackered pub it used to be, it became it gastronomic hotspot for Bath-ites who adore the excellent food and relaxed setting. The ground floor is a pub, with the fine dining room upstairs, all now eclectically kitted out with in shades of mauve with antiques, chandeliers and daily blackboard specials. Seasonal, free-range, organic and local sum up the provenance perfectly, for dishes like fried squid with fennel, ruby chard and green sauce and main of fantastic braised lamb for two with herb broth, mash and local greens. Superb small-producer beers and ales and a blistering wine list crown King William a top restaurant in Bath.

“Wonderful dinner on New Years Day”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

My wife and I had dinner at the King William on New Years Day evening and it was spot on. We had a table upstairs in what is a warm, intimate room looking out the window. We would have wanted to sit in the bar area, but found the upstairs to be great. Food was terrific, well prepared with very attentive service. It was the right kind of low key but enjoyable experience that we wanted after celebrating the night before. Also, interesting and well priced wine list.

“Bath's most renowned gastropub”
Reviewed January 31, 2013

We're lucky. We live just a beer's sip away from one of Bath's premier gastropubs, The King William. When you're gazing in from the outside, King William exudes a warm, welcoming air. Once inside, it's even better. When the owners renovated the building, they retained all of its charm, while giving the King William a unique personality...somewhere between quirky and traditional. The two rooms downstairs are for drinking and relaxed eating. The elegant upstairs rooms entertain more formal dining. And then there's the food. Locally sourced, prepared with pride, and outstanding enough to have won legions of loyal fans. The crowd is a mixture of delighted visitors and dedicated regulars, entertained by an eclectic, unobtrusive soundtrack. Everyone's friendly. Who wouldn't be in this setting? Oh, we regulars don't mind sharing our local gem with nice people.

“Great welcome, Great Beer, Great Food”
Reviewed January 31, 2013

Small but comfortable pub with excellent beer and food. Always good music playing behind the bar and generally friendly and helpful staff. Restaurant upstairs but really excellent Fish and Chips served downstairs with other bar food.

“Great food and atmosphere”
Reviewed January 27, 2013

Really lovely little pub and restaurant serving high quality food locally sorced at value for money prices. The pub has a tiny little bar and they serve food on standard pub tables as well as in the restaurant upstairs. The pub has a good following and is frequented not only by visitors like us but by local people. Really worth a visit.

“One of the worst meals I've had since I can remember”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

Starter of goats cheese, gnocchi and mushrooms was offensively bad. The goats cheese was so overpowering it destroyed everything else and made both of us feel physically ill for the rest of the day after having eaten it.
Main course of fish was adequate but completely oversalted and drowned in capers. I love capers but you can't overdo it with them.
Bread tasted like it was made 3 days ago. Stale, served with tasteless oil, which shows that they use poor quality ingredients.
Overall, one of the most disappointing meals I've had in a very long time.
