Good food. Three courses for twenty pounds offers good value too. Nice offering of real ales. Worth finding if you're looking for a decent meal in Bath

“A lovely low-key discovery”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2014

Looking for somewhere to have lunch before a walk, I noticed that someone called Jackson Hacker was billed as a "pop up" type chef at The Richmond. After a call to the friendly landlord to check what was on offer we booked and were very glad.

A quaint and quirky setting in a row of small Bath houses and a lovely low key local atmosphere was very welcoming. The lunch was delicious and lovely quality as was the bottle of wine. The service is unobtrusive but friendly.

I do hope this unpretentious little gem survives for the benefit of locals and visitors. If I lived nearby I'm afraid I would be in here rather a lot!

“A great, local, understated "gastro" pub.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 3, 2013

This was on the other side of Bath to our B+B but well worth the walk up the hill. The pub was initially quiet (on fireworks night) but slowly (but never rowdily) filled up with the locals - all of whom were on first name basis with the owners!

The menu is simple but hearty (we had the Ham Hock and squid for starters, the burger and venison for mains, and the chocolate tarte and compote for dessert). The food was very good, and reasonably priced - on a par with much pricier gastropubs around where we live in London, and compared to other Bath gastropubs and restaurants (one of us studied in Bath for four years). The service was excellent without being intrusive.

We would highly recommend on the basis of a very good relaxed meal with friendly owners, a good selection of drinks and a good dose of local gossip!

“Loved it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2013

We ate here for a birthday dinner and now we can't wait to go back. Cute location up in the hills with a lovely front garden. Welcoming staff serve well-priced, unpretentious, delicious gastropub staples and there's a really nice atmosphere.

“Secret hideaway!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013

A neighbour took us to this gorgeous pub. We initially went for a drink but decided to stay for dinner. What a great decision that turned out to be. I ordered the burger which was divine. The bun was so light. Almost like a brioche. I tried to resist the chips but that was impossible. My fellow diners both opted for the fish and chips with mushy peas. They each said it was the best fish and chips they have had in Bath. An absolute hidden treasure worth seeking out.
