Queen Charlotte's Orangery
Ranked #77 of 159 Bath B&B and Inns
Reviewed February 23, 2012

QCO is a b and b with a difference a short walk from Bath city centre. The décor is very quirky and the rooms designed on different themes. I’m not sure about the other rooms but there was very little space in the Sophia room mainly because of the huge bed!
The facilities generally were very good (with the exception of the temperamental shower) and there is parking just outside. The owner was very hospitable, the whole place spotless and the breakfast excellent.
The price wasn’t cheap but I suppose you get what you pay for and overall it offered good value for money. If you want to stay somewhere different with the personal touch rather than some anonymous hotel I can strongly recommend the Orangery. Play your cards right and you might come away with some the owner’s poetry – oh the burning capsicums!

A cute little place to stay with a quirky, quaint feel about it. Two of the four bedrooms are directly off the glass-domed, circular room where breakfast is served. We were in one of these bedrooms and I think we would have preferred a more 'anonymous' room not so close to such a public area and also a slightly larger one - we had the Sophia room with a four-poster bed which dominated it somewhat and made the room feel a bit cramped. Some oddity had the shower intermittently going cold but constant hot water flowing from the bath taps. But these are minor gripes as owner Greg O'Neil (his wife was away when we visited) was a splendid host, providing a car parking permit, local information, and serving an above-average B and B breakfast of a plate of fresh fruit, choice of cereals and the traditional 'full English' - but I am sure, being the genial chap he is, he would meet any requests for a variation of this. You can even choose what CD to play while you eat.
Queen Charlotte's Orangery is perfect for a short stay and the ten minute walk into the centre of Bath was a good way to start the day. If I was visiting Bath again, I would probably choose more central accommodation and go for a hotel just because of the more facilities available, such as a bar for a nightcap at the end of a busy day sight-seeing, and an on-site restaurant if you are too tired to venture out again in the evening.
None of this is criticism of the Orangery which is superior Bed and Breakfast accommodation - with our room cleaned and tidied to an exceptionally high standard while we were out, and top quality bedding, towels and toiletries. The O'Neils have obviously drawn on their experience of running a top notch B and B for many years in Richmond, south-west London, and know that quality is important. All the rooms were occupied during our stay and the guests seemed more than happy with their accommodation choice.

Room Tip: Get the lowdown on the size and facilities of all four rooms before you make your choice.

You really couldn't find a better place to stay in Bath. We cannot fault Queen Charlotte's Orangery; it is an absolute delight. Gorgeous bedrooms with very comfortable beds. It was peaceful, warm and cosy, and four of us had a wonderful three days there. Excellent breakfasts, with special requests willingly catered for. The location is perfect, just a ten minute stroll from the centre, and the Holburne Museum opposite is well worth a visit. Thanks to Greg and Denise for outstanding hospitality.

Wow! What an amazing boutique hotel hidden away in Bath. Unassuming from the outside the interiors are 100% first class and beautiful, the welcome and atmosphere is fantastic and I would highly recommend Queen Charlottes Orangery as a great base to explore Bath and the surrounding area.

Room Tip: All great, the suite has a bit more space .

This is the perfect place for a couple to stay in Bath, a lovely romantic and unique venue, we were very impressed. We are so glad we stayed here rather than the big Macdonald hotel down the road - and a lot of the other B&Bs in the area were extremely average looking so we felt very lucky to be staying in such a great place! The location is ideal and within walking distance of the main town, but within a quiet peaceful setting. The hosts were very friendly and accomodating. The breakfast was great. There are parking facilities right outside. The cost was very reasonable. I really cannot fault this place and would love to return here on our next trip to Bath! We stayed in the Amelia room which was perfect - a large room and bathroom with a great shower.

This is the most pleasant stay we’ve had at a B&B. Once we arrived we knocked on the door and were given a parking permit so that we could park right outside. It was like a fairytale! The website’s photos cannot even capture the true beauty and enchantment of this home; the hosts paid attention to every detail. The Emilia Room was wonderfully furnished and the view from the window was into the beautiful garden. The room and ensuite bathroom had all the essentials you could ask for. We always dreamed of staying in a beautiful historical home, and this place fulfilled that dream in every aspect. The hosts, Greg and his wife, were very kind and welcoming. The location wasn’t right smack in the town center, but an easy 8-min walk and set off the main roads, so it was nice and quiet. The breakfast was delicious and included a typical English Breakfast, fruit, cereals, juice, and coffee. During our meal, Greg entertained us with a beautiful personal poem. He is a very gifted and genuine person. We only stayed one night, but hoped we could have stayed longer. We look forward to another visit to Bath in the spring and hope to stay here again.

We loved this place. It lived up to everything you see on the web site and more. A very comfy 4 poster bed, superb fairytale surroundings, and a host with the most! Greg welcomed us with tea in the garden and during our stay we came to regard him as a friend due to his kindness and warmth. A place we intend to revisit and would highly recommend. Ideally situated for all you want to see in Bath, with a good English breakfast, and the opportunity of meeting guests from far and wide. During our stay other guests included, 2 Russians and a Swiss lady. Well done Greg, and Q.C.O. Hope to see you again soon. On ANOTHER DAY! Staffspeeps
