“Poor hospitality, no one greeted us or attended to our needs”

The B&B was clean and quite near the town centre.(10 min. walk)
However the service was quite poor considering I had read up on good previous reviews.
The full English breakfast was satisfactory.
Bath itself was a lovely place to visit and would definitely recommend it.
Personally I would not stay here again.

We spent a night here hoping for a relaxing break before Christmas. We deliberately chose a B&B graded by Visit Britain, hoping it would assure us of a certain standard of accommodation. Unfortunately we didn't find this at Astor House. The room, although large, was crowded with 3 beds, the television was very high above an old, tatty wardrobe, the power points were just above the beds in the middle of the wall - very odd. The bathroom was a huge disappointment with paint peeling off the door, plaster off and a hole around the fan, mould in the corner of the bath and the mirror was covered in someone else's splashes. Breakfast was passable, the service was swift but curt. It is certainly not worthy of the 4 stars it has been graded, 3 or less. The owners here do not carry the flag for tourism in Britain - or Bath. We found it disconcerting to pass their living quarters with the television blaring and complete lack of interest in their guests.

  • Liked — Situated on a quiet road with easy parking.
  • Disliked — The bathroom!

hi we had a nice time at astor house, we were there to visit bath and the xmas market. the breakfast was very good quick service, we had a lovely view over bath and the crescent (room 5) it is a twin room. only problem was the beds are very creaky every time i turned over the noise was so loud...astor house is a very old building but very well kept, a very pleasant and quiet stay.. we walked downhill to bath about 15 to 20 minutes, caught a taxi back no more than £5.00.we will be going back again...had a nice stay..

  • Liked — great views over bath and the crescent
  • Disliked — creaky beds

On arrival we were a little surprised to find a note pinned to the front door with instructions on how to let ourselves in, we only saw the owners on our leaving which suited us. The place itself is very beautiful, the building is splendid and the gardens wonderful. The area is very peaceful and quiet. The breakfast was very nice, the place was very clean and tidy. Astor house was a little too "fuddy" for our liking, bold wallpapaers, very soft beds with lots of blankets and throws. Very pleasent but not really our thing.
The walk to the city of Bath is about 20 minutes in reality (the description on the web site is not really true), all down hill going into the city but all up hill coming back. It's not an easy walk, so make sure you have good footwear on.
Bath is wonderful, fantastic history, culture and great places to drink and eat and the shoppping is wonderful.
We would go to Bath again but not back to Astor House.

  • Liked — it was clean
  • Disliked — very soft beds,

This was a good hotel, however it is a fair way from the centre of Bath so it is really made for people who have a car since its a good walk up and down a hill for 10mins from the rail & bus.
My room was nice, small point that the blinds didn't close and that the kettle looked like it had seen better days.
The staff were polite but were not exactly friendly.
Other than that this was a good hotel to stay in perhaps not the 4 stars it has though

We (family of 4 with teenagers) stayed here for one night. The room was spacious enough but the ensuite was showing its age. We found it to be comfy and pleasant with a good breakfast. It is quite a walk to Bath we preferred to walk than take the car and pay the high price for parking.

  • Liked — Comfortable room
  • Disliked — Too many stairs and aging ensuite
