Very friendly, smiley welcome, offered the choice of any of the free tables. Nothing posh, but a pleasant room.
We chose from the set lunch menu, not a huge number of choices, but certainly enough options.
Started with Brie and ham crepe, really good, then duck and lamb for main courses, also good and a free Armagnac to warm us up before venturing back to the Christmas market.
I really liked this little place with its charming French staff, will definitely return.

Went as a couple, Friday night in Dec. booked by 'phone, arrived early, no issue at being seated early. 6 or so starters on menu, similar no for mains, with specials as well. Ham terrine and crevettes & saucisson were good starters. Sea bass and pork belly as mains, good sized portions, pork very tender, beautifully cooked. Small but well balanced wine list, couple of jazz guitarists playing in background, really relaxed evening after a long day. Complimentary Armangac with the bill. Would go back.

Chose mainly off the special menu. Mainly excellent food (my main was just starting to cool) and good French wine,

Service was paced really slowly, owner was keen for us to enjoy every last minute. We had cheese with a wonderful desert wine.

Come the bill we were given a glass of young brandy. Given our choice of the desert wine probably not the wisest offer as it was too harsh so we wasted it.

Overall though the food drives the score.

We had dinner here with my wife and son who is in his first year at Bath Uni. We booked it last minute. The food was excellent. The wine selection was adequate but not extensive. The service was first class and to cap it all we received a complimentary bottle of desert wine and Brandy...12 out of ten for effort and we will be heading back...

Quite a few of the restaurants on our shortlist for Sunday night were closed, so we were pleased to find this French Bistro open, especially since it was a 5 minute walk from our hotel. We were the only people there for a while, which surprised us given the numbers of people in town for the Christmas market, but it made for a pleasant and laid-back atmosphere as other diners eventually drifted in. We enjoyed the food, especially the scallops and escargots we chose to start with. I then chose the cod special, which was delicious, and Pete loved his trio of duck dishes. Only the desserts were disappointing; Pete's tarte tatin looked like it had been chargrilled rather than caramelised, and my chocolate mousse was not the rich dark variety I love but a pale and rather tasteless version. Both the waitress and chef were disappointed that I hadn't enjoyed the mousse, and took it off the bill - so that was fair enough, we certainly felt that they were willing to listen and that they cared about our feedback. As others have said, the wine list was good and we discovered a white wine we absolutely loved - Picpoul de Pinet, from Domaine Sainte Anne. Will definitely search that out again.
