“Don't go there!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2008

Grubby and uninspiring, this well positioned hotel in the centre of Bath, left a lot to be desired for the business traveller and tourist alike.

The large double bedroom, at £120. 00 per night, left me feeling as grubby as the hotel. Sorry, the collection of rooms with one poor foreign girl on reception, which was a desk in a gubbyhole.
The room carpet was stained in several places and their was blood on the grey net curtains.

The 'bathroom' was situated behind an obscured suspended glass screen placed at the bedhead. (No doors). The shower was miniscule (no bath) and the toilet felt almost if it were in the middle of the room - which in fact, it was - no privacy there, then!

To add insult to injury, the breakfast in the much heralded Loch Fyne Restaurant beneath the hotel was appalling. Burnt ,overcooked eggs, cold toast, green uncooked tomatoes, weak tea and no marmalade. I can only think that the breakfast chefs were as unmotivated as the sad plate of food presented to us. Disasterous!

If you think I've finished...nooooooooo!!!!

The very worst thing about this heinous travellers rest was the noise. Unrelenting heavy traffic plus drunken revellers spilling out from adjacent nightclubs and bars. Sleep could only be realised between 2.00 and 4.00 am before the deliveries to the restaurant and general traffic started again.

DON'T GO THERE!

Very disappointing - not recommended. Gloomy, grubby and noisy. You could do a lot better for the money.

Milsoms Hotel is essentially a plush extension to the Loch Fyne restaurant below. The location is very central, excellent for shopping or sightseeing, but can be a little noisy on a Friday or Saturday night. Although i didnt stay there on these days, the rooms seemed well enough sound insulated that perhaps this wouldn't be an issue.

The stairs to the rooms are steep, and not disabled friendly. They should present no problem to the average person but it should be noted if you have any disability . The reception and service were both without fault.

Another review mentioned the smell of (fresh!) fish, from the restaurant, which i also experienced. This was for restaurant peak times of the day (when generally i was out), and even though it was a very hot summers day it never struck me as an issue.

The hotel rooms are very nice indeed, especially the more expensive ones. Ours had a free-standing bath for example which was fantastic. They were by far the nicest rooms i have seen in any hotel in Bath so far. Based on this alone i would be happy to return.

This is a fabulous little hotel (boutique rooms over the Loch Fyne restaurant) - great value, lovely, tasteful rooms and a superb breakfast in the restaurant. Right in the centre of Bath so perfect for eating out, shops, attractions. Hard to beat.

This is a good all round hotel. The Milsom is a boutique hotel owned by the Loch Fyne Restaurant chain. It has an excellent location. We had a good room - one of the quieter rooms at the top of the hotel - but as the hotel is close to a few bars I imagine it could get quite noisy. Good views of Bath. The rooms are small but cosy. No lift though so be prepared. Good breakfast in the Loch Fyne restaurant downstairs. No car park but a good value car park is only a 5 minute walk. Staff very helpful and pleasant. Carpet needs a clean. Good value hotel for a weekend stay.

The hotel is in a great location for shopping, although it's on a busy street so some of the rooms must be noisy.

It's a B&B rather than a hotel and the rooms are up several flights of stairs with no lift. The stairs and reception area are shabby, dirty and worst of all there is a strong smell of fish from the restaurant.

Our room was ok for the price and quite large, but nothing special.

Breakfast is served in the restaurant and it was so bad that we only attempted to eat there once. The service was uncaring and disinterested. There is also little choice- no juice, cereals etc, only a cooked breakfast. We ordered poached eggs which were so covered in vinegar that they were inedible and smoked salmon and scrambled eggs which was completely dry. Toast was brought immmediately but no butter or jam to go with it. We asked for this repeatedly and were eventually brought butter and jam that had obviously been used by another table as there were knife marks and crumbs all over it. It was such a bad experience that we didn't go back there to eat the next morning, even though breakfast was included in the price. We highly recommend the brunch at Blackstones as an alternative.

It was our second visit to Milsoms, we liked the central location and the style of the modern rooms.
First visit we stayed on the second floor, room with bath and shower, lovely! this visit room 2 right next to reception. Must say the room was the largest we have ever seem with beautiful ceilings, BUT didnt like being so close to reception, felt a bit "watched" also the room was boiling hot and noisy. Massive downside was the openplan bathroom..... a screen but no doors, wouldnt fancy it for a first weekend away with a date I must say.
Overall though you cant beat the location, staff are nice, resturant good for evening meals, rooms stylish, didnt bother with breakfast as I am veggi.
Parking a bit of a nightmare in Bath, but we managed.
