“Just a YHA”
Reviewed November 29, 2012

I'd stayed here for 2 nights. It's quite suitable for teens and students, including the price and environment. But the location is really far far away from the Bath city centre. Getting there by foot would cost 40 minutes. As for the route, the road there was so dark and the uphill was extremely steep. But I must say, it's just a YHA. (And no WiFi)

We have stayed at many hostel in Europe and this is definately no way near top 10. We booked into a private room- we had the bottom floor with a disable toilet. The room smelt very dam. Carpets are dusty. Very strange hostel.

The kitchen has all the facilities and lots of place to sit to eat.

There is no parking in the area. We had to park across the road in the age care home.

Lovely stay here. As it sites atop Bathwick Hill, you get lovely views of Bath as you walk down to the city centre. It's a 20-25 minute walk to the city which will be often the most viable option if you're not driving because the buses don't run that frequently in my opinion. Rooms are clean, comfortable and warm. Kitchens and laundry are sufficient, with a small market at the bottom of the hill. Staff friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend. Building itself is just as lovely as the town itself.

Only stay at a youth hostel in the uk if you want a cheap nights stay. That is the only attraction. We expected cheap - basic amenities etc but did not expect the indifference from the staff. YHA staff need a lesson in Public Relations - they do not know how to smile and be welcoming - surely this takes no effort, but I suppose they don't have to win over the public as they will always serve a purpose for people wanting cheap accommodation. We stayed at 4 different Youth Hostels and the staff were all the same.

It was a cheap and nice place to stay. If you are driving, you are not allowed to park outside the hostel but instead you have to park down at the road side. Make sure to drop off your luggage fist before driving off or else you have to drag your luggage or carry them up quite a steep slope. You can leave your car parked and take a bus down to explore Bath and surroundings. The room was not too big, put in and take off own bed linen after stay. The kitchen was clean. You can even pre-order your breakfast or dinner if you decide to just stay in. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Will consider returning there.

Staying in the Bath YHA was my first Hostel/Backpackers experience and it was pretty much what I expected. The room was small (expected) but clean; as others have mentioned it was odd to have to not only set up my own bed linen but to also strip it at the end of our stay....

The washing machine/dryer facilities... are.a.joke. Placed my clothes in the dryer... 3 hours later they were still damp. No heavy fabrics, no dense materials... Crazy. In the end had to hang stuff off the bunk beds.

The bathroom smelled of bleach which was reassuring but be warned! We were in a room with an ensuite and the light in the shower seems to work on a sensor... So it may go black in the middle of the shower! No harm no foul and made for some laughs.

Staff were friendly and helpful but under no certain terms should you ever think walking from central town is a good idea.... We climbed it all with our bags... never again. Get a bus!

Bed was comfy, place was cheap, got a good sleep. Only negative is that there was no room for your bag (besides using all available floor space) but I guess you should expect that in a YHA?

I won't complain, it wasn't the best, but it was cheap and a place to rest my head whilst I explored Bath & surrounding areas.
Would I stay there again ? No.
Reasons being it wasn't all that clean & the noise that carries in from outside was terrible & I found it hard to get to sleep.
The door to my room was very fidgety also & made a lot of noise, which wasn't appreciated at 130/2am in the morning when some women decided it was a fantastic time to come to bed and make a heck of noise for a while.
The staff were quite accommodating and friendly.
It's a little bit out of town, up a hill, I didn't brave the trek down into town because there was bus stop conveniently opposite. I recommend it if you are only staying for a short amount of time, and want somewhere to just rest your head.
If you want somewhere that you're able to chill out or get a clean, quiet, relaxing time here would not be the place.
