Owner description: The Little Theatre Cinema was built by community theatre pioneer Consuelo de Reyes and her husband in 1935. It initially functioned as a news theatre open from midday and showing hourly programmes of documentaries and newsreels. Feature films were first shown in 1939, the first two being "Peg of Old Drury" starring Anna Neagle followed by "Oh Mr Porter" starring Will Hay. The cinema thrived on local support throughout the years as other Bath cinema venues closed and in 1979 the former scenery store and lounge area were converted into a second screen. In spite of many refurbishments to keep the cinema up-to-date with digital sound and the latest projection technology, and a renewal of the seats to give the very best comfort levels, The Little Theatre has retained the charm and welcoming warmth of a 1930's cinema, including a luxury balcony with sofas in the main auditorium.

The Little (as it's affectionately known) is possibly the best cinema ever. It has a really wide variety of films, from mainstream to art house, via silver screen and a kids session, it has super large seats and I love the sofas on the balcony. It's worth becoming a member to get previews and discounts and booking online is quick and easy. It certainly beats the same-format impersonal multiplexes hands down.

This is a very authentic, vintage cinema. Lovely service, a nice selection of snacks and drinks on offer and comfy seats (especially in the balcony - two seater sofas and legroom for £10 per ticket). A pleasant evening out!

The Little is one of my favourite places in Bath. I wish I had the time to visit more often because it is such a pleasant experience in comparison to the Odeon and other large cinemas. In the winter they serve mulled wine which is a lovely touch. I love that they show old classics and not just new releases, making a film lovers paradise. A trip to the Little is a bit of a step back in time to when the cinema was an occasion and not just a thing to do. It's not for everyone though and if you're looking to watch mega blockbusters in 3D with masses of CGI then you won't have much luck here. On the other hand if you want to watch the latest French romantic drama then this is the place to go.

A lovely Independent cinema plus extras always on the horizon. Nice to enjoy your film with a glass of wine. Would be great if you could improve quality of wine.

Hello,

Many thanks for your review of The Little Theatre Cinema.

We have taken your comment on board and are hoping to introduce a wider selection of drinks from our kiosk after our refurbishment later this year.

I hope to see you back at The Little again soon.

This cinema is so quaint. There are only two screens, and a little shop that sells the usual sweets and nibbles, but also wine, beer etc. There is an interesting selection of films shown there. I thoroughly enjoyed this cinema experience.
