“Overall very good - but a pathetic student discount!”
Reviewed October 26, 2012

I have been to the Fashion Museum several times supervising school trips. This was my wife's first time, however, so I gamely went again.

The entrance fee is fairly steep at £7.50 (although this does include entrance to the ball room and assembly hall as well) but what annoyed me was the so-called 'concession' charge of £6.75 - giving students and pensioners the grand discount of 75p!

Inside the exhibitions ranged from the dated (some haven't changed at all for years) to the very up-to-minute (a fairly interesting display showing sporting fashion through the ages). The best bit is the 'behind the scenes' look at the museum, as this brings the collections to life somewhat. The rest of the presentation is fairly stilted, based around one meandering corridor.

If you're into fashion you might find it a bit tame, but overall an enjoyable enough forty-or-so minutes.

I went by myself and enjoyed looking at the fashion and history of the fashion- especially enjoyed the section on the queen. Wish that I could have seen more

“Better than the V&A”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

I find old clothes fascinating and this museum is therefore a must see. The V&A seemed to have messed up their collection last time I saw it by putting too much modern stuff in. I want to see the OLD clothes thank you very much. Fortunately the Bath Fashion Museum does a much better job of this, and the best bit is they have some Victorian-style clothes for you to try on. These were a much better quality than you normally get at visitor attractions. I genuinely look Victorian by the time I'd lugged on the crinoline, dress and bonnet. The kids dressed up too and a great time was had by all.

“Very interesting display”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

This museum is directly downstairs from the Assembly Rooms, which, if you know Jane Austen novels, will be very familiar. We were there right after the Olympics, and the display of sports clothing was interesting. Overall the museum has very interesting displays with a good audio guide.

In one area you can try on the various costumes, corset, crinoline, top hat, dress, jacket etc. Children's costumes are available too. Take your camera and dress the part.
