We found the hotel very conveniently located but that's the only positive. The room was quite delapidated, on a distinct slope, had a bathroom heater that was quite dangerous, lumpy beds and a wardrobe that couldn't be closed. Worst of all, the unfriendly manager kept us waiting almost 30 minutes to move an obstructing vehicle in the ultra-small carpark and threatened to charge another GBP10 for parking because we were slightly after checkout time (we had vacated the room on time). I won't be going back.

Here's a quick list of issues I had over a weekend stay.

* Room was not booked in system despite room reservation having taken place several months earlier. Luckily they had a spare room but it was a tiny box room in the basement.

* Easily accessible (from outside) window only secured with tiny latch.

* Room became very warm unless you had the window open.

* Digital TV reception very poor, regularily cutting out. No analogue alternative available.

* No cupboard to store clothes - I had to make do with hanging a suit off the door.

* No plug in sink.

* Only 1 bar of soap available each day for cleaning - no gel or shampoo.

* Woken up both mornings at 8am by someone playing loud music - as there were no other rooms immediately next to mine I can only assume this was a member of staff.

* Breakfast, although it was free, consisted of cereal and a "continental selection" consisting of thinly sliced processed ham and processed sliced cheese still in plastic wrappers. No cooked breakfast available.

There were some plus points - the staff were usually cheery and helpful, the room was cleaned adequiately and it is very close to Bath city centre. But for £65 a night this place is a disgrace. Making an excuse that the price reflects the location is not good enough. Either smarten up or price down!

I went to a hen do at the weekend in Bath. Most of our party stayed at the Travelodge but there weren’t enough rooms free so 4 of us were booked 2 twin rooms at the Redcar Hotel. Well, firstly, we didn’t get twin rooms, we got very small double beds, so it was lucky we are good friends! The receptionist was bordering on hostile most of the time.

And as for the room:

- Carpet - damaged and holey, and it didn’t look like it had been hoovered properly in a long time
- Décor – an array of clashing colours and patterns, which has clearly been assembled gradually over the last few decades. And the curtains were falling off the pole.
- Walls - dirty and marked, and the paintwork was terrible
- Bed - Although the bedding looked clean, I had one of the worst night’s sleep of my life. The mattress was uncomfortable and squeaky if you moved even an inch, so it was constantly waking us up, and the pillows were horribly lumpy. There were spares in the wardrobe, but as they were on the floor, this didn’t seem very hygienic to put them next to our faces, and there was an old, scratchy, spare blanket in there which I wouldn’t consider using for a pet’s bed
- Bathroom - The fittings in the bathroom were surprisingly clean, but the shelf was stained, the floor was grimy and there were no hot water in the shower, so we had to wash in the sink!
- Miscellanous - There was a filthy plug adaptor under the TV, and the kettle was full of limescale and without a proper filter

Our friends in a neighbouring room said our room was like a palace compared to theirs. Apart from the fact their wallpaper was nicer (not nice, just nicer), they were right. Their room was tiny, there was barely room to walk around the undersized double bed. They also couldn’t get the window to stay open so it was unbearably hot. They looked like they were going to pass out when they walked out to meet us in the morning.

We were informed on arrival that a continental breakfast would be 3 pounds each, or 5 for both. Well, after our sleeping experience, there is no chance I would have eaten anything prepared in that hotel. For about the same price, we popped into a lovely café called Jika Jika (which I recommend heartily) opposite the Travelodge. For about the same price as the Redcar breakfast, I had a fantastic croissant and a cuppa. The staff were charming and even served the 15 of us before they had opened because we were in a rush.

It was 10 pounds to park on a Saturday and free on the Sunday, so we booked a parking space for both days (and checked that we would be allowed to leave it there on the Sunday for a few hours after we had checked out). However, on the Sunday we were informed that we could leave the car there but if the space was needed by someone else, we would be blocked in and we would have to pay for a removal van. The receptionist seemed to think this was standard practice. I understand if a hotel refuses to let someone leave the car if they have checked out, but having agreed that it was fine, this wasn’t acceptable. After arguing about this for 5 minutes, he tells us we can park on the street for free because it was Sunday. Right.

All in all, the Redcar Hotel is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at by miles. For 86 pounds, I expect to have a room which is basic, but clean and pleasant. Apparently I expect too much. Thankfully, having gone with a good friend, we were able to laugh about it, but it would ruin a romantic weekend away or family vacation. The only good points:

- The building from outside looks quite nice, it is one of those tall Georgian town houses
- The location is quite central, about a mile walk from the centre
- The receptionist gave us instructions as to how to find the Travelodge so we could meet our friends, which was helpful

Room so hot and a smell of urine.
furniture from junk shops, badly in need of decoration. the bed was much too old to be hygenic. one night here was one too many. felt ashamed to see that lots of foreign travellers were staying there as it gives British hotels a bad name. the woman on reception reasonably nice - but that's it. the owners need to forget profit - invest some of the extortionate fees and make this beautiful building into something to be proud of.

We have just spent the weekend at this hotel, and to be perfectly honest it is the worst place I have stayed in.Dirty ,smelly, too warm and extremely dated.Breakfast was continental style, with the cold meats just left out on the side. Needless to say we skipped the risk of eating that.Anyone who even considers staying here, even if part of a package should seriously think twice.

The whole place is in serious need of up dating and cleaning. The breakfast was very limited, luckily for us a certain chain of pub does a very good breakfast just a short walk away. The only redeeming feature was its position close to the town, but that was its only good feature.

Room Tip: Did not find a good room

This was the only place with availability for the weekend that we wanted and i can see why!! The whole place is grotty, dated and dirty! Nothing more than a hostel! I work in the hotel industry and it makes me angry to see a place like this categorise themselves as a hotel!!
Our room was disgusting, mismatched paint, carpet clearly had not been hoovered and who knows what the stains on the wall next to the loo were!!
No English staff-i complained about the price £82 for a bed (breakfast not included) and got told it was because of the location! Absolute rip off! If the nearest Travelodge had had availability-we would have recieved far better quality and service at a much better rate!!
Oh and one more thing-they make u pay on check in so they clearly know they are offering crap!!
DO NOT STAY HERE if you want a nice time in Bath!!!
