Brindleys Boutique B & B
Ranked #8 of 155 Bath B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed November 30, 2012

We've stayed in more than a handful of guest-houses and traditional B&B establishments over the years; we've sampled the relative merits of emerging 'boutique' houses in the UK and can quite confidently, quite dispassionately contend that Brindleys is the best, to date and, I suspect, one of the best, if not the very best, that Bath has to offer.

Its website is not at all misleading, but it merely provides a fractional foretaste of an experience that will make a visit to Bath thoroughly enjoyable, enhanced in relaxation and a pleasure on a raft of fronts.

Jamie and his wife make for a convivial team. He greets you and answer whatever queries you might have with an ebullient enthusiasm and warmth that never seems over-stressed or contrived.

A great guest-house should offer that welcoming warmth and homely appeal that makes you feel immediately embedded in its charms. Brindleys does this almost the moment you walk down the stone path to its green door and then enter the cosy familiarity of a reception room that feels more like a country living room!

Bedrooms are clean, stylish, tastefully furnished throughout and thoroughly beautiful in every respect. While attention to detail is conspicuously there, you never have the feeling that the owners are trying too hard; they're merely reflecting a philosophy to give you as good as they would want for themselves - an ethos confirmed to me when I spoke with Jamie.

Our room was even better looking in appearance than the website suggested with a quiet loftiness and tranquility that was matched by a bed so wondrously pitched in terms of soft-firmness that you would not want to rise when the sun peeps through the blinds the following morning!

Breakfast was effortlessly fantastic - great choice, great quality and served with helpful friendliness by Anel, Jamie's wife.

There's ample storage space for clothes for a short break, lovely little extras bundled in the bathroom and the bedroom; great Klimt drawings generated a different flavour of a well-known artist. A perfect symbol for what Brindleys does, to my mind by offering an enriched and satisfying perspective on BnB in a way that makes you re-think the joys possible from staying in one!

If it were possible to award six stars, Brindleys would deserve all six. As it is, it will have to suffice with five!

Really enjoyed our stay at Brindleys. warm welcome and very friendly. The room we stayed in was perfect very warm and very clean and very well decorated. would visit her again in the very near future. Ideal for visiting bath as not very far at all into the centre and a very lovely walk there too. the trip had been a birthday gift for my wife from our children and a very lovely gift indeed

There is no doubt that Brindleys is a superb property - the decor is charming (modern french), facilities and cleanliness can not be faulted, and we received a warm and helpful welcome. The location is also excellent - a short flat walk into the centre of Bath, yet quiet and peaceful at night. Just don't expect the same personal touches (which admittedly are sometimes good, sometimes bad and oft times quirky) that you get from a more "traditional" B&B. Some of the things that we felt let the property down a bit was the breakfast room atmosphere (again, beautifully presented but lacking a personal touch, and no prepared fresh fruit, a staple of other B&Bs), no guest lounge and to describe our room as "spacious" (as it was on the website) was more than a bit generous - we felt quite cramped.

If you are after a more "business" like B&B, then Brindleys is for you. If you enjoy the oddities that make B&B experiences memorable then perhaps look elsewhere.

I can't speak highly enough of this beautiful b&b. The owners were very warm and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The accommodation was truly 5 star, clean, very stylish with everything you need for a comfortable stay. My daughter and i shared a twin room and I was nervous that we might be a bit squashed but not at all. We had everything we needed for our one night. Also we were close enough to town to be able to walk but far enough away so there was no noise. The owners can be extremely proud of the ambience they have created here and have certainly broken the traditional b&b mould ( ooh remember those nylon sheets?!) I will be recommending this gorgeous place to all my friends.

The owners were extremely warm and welcoming; we were advised about the facilities and guidance was given with regards to places to see and eat.

We stayed for 2 nights and the room was cleaned every day and we were provided with fresh water, tea/coffee and kit kat, very thoughtful. The breakfast was amazing and we were given a lot of choices.

I would definitely recommend to all my friends and family and we will be going back.

Excellent, friendly service. Situated on a quiet street away from the noise of the city centre but less than ten minutes slow walk in. Good choice of breakfast options - I went for the traditional cooked breakfast which was of very good quality. Overall very clean and one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. Generally most of the'boutique' hotels that I have stayed in seem to have been furnished from any old second-hand tat the owners could buy cheap and freshen up with a lick of paint. The furnishings here are completely different - tasteful and well arranged. Have already recommended this hotel to a number of friends and will definitely stay here again next time we are in the area. I would say very good value for money.

Lovely B&B, personal service. Great breakfast. Only stayed for one night due to business but would most certainly stay again. The room was well decorated, extremely comfortable bed, excellent shower and enough space for two people.
