“Great location, very overpriced.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2013 via mobile

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights over the weekend in a budget double with shared facilities. We booked super late so were pushed for places to stay within a reasonable budget opting for Parade Park Hotel despite the mixed reviews due to its central location and good presentation on the website.

So the positives: it is in a excellent location, breakfast was good and staff helpful. The bed was reasonably comfy and quiet.

The not-so-positives: the room was very basic, though fairly clean. There were some slightly odd touches; the obligatory sign requesting towels be hung if they were to be re-used with our towels then being replaced in the morning despite hanging them up. Cellophane wrapped plastic cups rather than glasses and disposable floor mat with helpful footprints to indicate use suggested that budget guests are light fingered or perhaps slightly wild.

The shower room served a reasonable number of residents and was located down a few stairs and round a corner. These sad, tired rooms comprised a temperamental shower, toilet and hand sink along with super-crumbly window.

To summarise: We had a lovely time in the beautiful city of Bath. We were able to get some well needed rest and my boyfriend created a new sandwich at breakfast so all was well. The building of the hotel is magnificent but it feels unloved and could do with a serious injection of cash. Our stay was not terrible, but we felt we could have stayed somewhere similar for significantly less or a like-priced good B and B instead.

The good location of this hotel does not make up for its many shortfalls. Avoid this hotel if you value your hard earned money. I arrived at 12.30pm, an hour and a half before the room was available but having called ahead to confirm was able to leave my cases with reception and informed they would be taken to the room when it was ready. Upon returning nearly 5 hours later I discovered they actually meant by me not hotel staff. When I asked for an iron and ironing board they helpfully handed them to me and watched me struggle out of the door. The hotel has the oddest layout ever and my room, which was a four poster room, one of the most expensive rooms in the hotel was on the second floor. The hotel has no lifts just creaky old stairs and carpet that smells like a cross between a cave and a home for incontinent oaps. Upon arriving in my room, i found the carpet was old and worn, a rubber bath mat in the bathroom appeared to be fully of yellow stains, there is no shampoo/shower gel as you would get even at a budget travellodge instead a very budget shampoo and shower gel pump pot riveted to the wall, the hot water tap in the bath would not turn off and so kept trickling water, the shower just dribbles on you and has no power to it, the room is dated and musty feeling, there were visible circuit boards inside the room and outside the room just above the door, the windows are so poorly sound proofed you can hear pedestrian conversation outside. On a positive note the room has a tv however due to it ill thought out position in a four poster room one of the bed posts blocks your vision so you have to lean of the edge of the bed. Breakfast is jazzed up a being continental which in true english means a bit of sliced cheddar, a bit of sliced ham and some very odd tasting salami with the not so continental cereal, toast and tinned mixed tropical fruit. There is no room service as any hotel normally has. There is no telephone in hte room should you require reception or a wake up call as is standard in even budget hotels. Reception gets closed so staff can become bar staff or room maids or waiters/waitresses for breakfast so if you need reception during these times forget it you will have to wait. Everything about this hotel is badly thought out and executed. It is in desperate need of closing down, money spent and completely gutting and re-vamping. The pictures shown are nothing like the real thing. The pictures of the bar show it as a lovely inviting place with sofas, wrong they have been replaced by a pool table and loud beer guzzling rugby fans. Had it not been valentines night/weekend I would have walked out of the hotel and gone to the Halcyon or Best Western less than 500 yards away. Aviod this "hotel" like the plague.

Room Tip: Avoid this hotel and stay at a proper hotel than knows what is is doing. None of the rooms are worth...

We We used this place just for a night's stay on a weekend. The location is perfect, just walking distance away from all that you want to see. Worked quite expensive- probably more so because we booked in late. We had just booked a double bed room but got double and twin bed rooms (2 rooms all for us) - quite spacious, clean, had a TV. We dint bother to watch much. Only down side was there was no phone in the room. In the middle of the night, we heard someone fighting- running around- yelling etc above our room and we dint have a phone in the room to call the reception immediately. We called reception using our cell phone and they sorted it out after that. There is a bar just next door to the hotel which is convenient for those going on a weekend drink. Breakfast was normal continental.

I wouldn't recommend it if you want a luxury stay. I am sure you can get a better place for the money if you book early. But, if it is just a single night and you are going to be out most of the time then it works fine.

nice and close to the rec small room but nice and clean. Nice warm welcome breakfast basic would have been nicer if offered english breakfast rather than having to go into lambretta bar and paying extra. Would stay here again if visiting bath

Room Tip: Not all rooms are small and be aware that there is a bar on the ground floor

It is a old hotel with small room. No free parking available. If you drive, it has paid parking near by the hotel. However, every stuff is very nice and really want to help you if you have some problem. For example I want to eat some snack at midnight and I went down for borrow bowls from receptionist. He is really nice and gave me two. Recommended if you get really good price.

Room Tip: I lived at the third floor (4th floor from ground) and the hotel available only stairs.

Room very 'pokey' and basic but warm, quiet and clean. Reception helpful. Breakfast very average, continental style. Somehow the hotel decor stopped the place feeling welcoming but as just a 'place to lay one's head' it was OK and what I needed near a wedding venue. Missed a bath in my room.

Room Tip: You get what you pay for in central Bath
