“Superb views of Bath”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

A relatively small park located on the top of Beechen Cliff. Accessible from 3 directions by foot but only 1 by car or bike. Vehicle access is at the top of Shakespear Avenue.

The park is round in shape, several established trees and shrubs. There is a play area for children, an area for playing 'Boules / Petanque', and also a Bowling Green for the local Bowls club.

For me though the main attraction for a visit to this park is the spectacular views that are on offer from the far corner. From an elevated position you can view pretty much most of the city. Looking west (to your left)you can take in all of the city centre and as you turn slowly to your right you get to see all of Lansdown and the ancient Iron Age settlement of Solsbury Hill. On a clear day the views are simply stunning and 30 minutes can just fly by.

Many locals go there for a picnic lunch and take in the vista

“Great view, avoid afternoons”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

The council seem to be keeping better maintenance of the viewpoint recently, including a bench dedicated to 'George, who was not eaten by lions'. You'll need anywhere up to 2 hours to take in the fairly steep climb up from the centre of town but on a clear (or snowy) day the view is very much worth it!

One tip: avoid trying the climb the steps between 3 and 4pm, as you are likely to be trampled by many boys from the local school!

“Best view from a swing”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

The best view of the best city. Once the top of the hill is reached a wonderful green open space and play area fill your view. A circular one way road takes you on a short tour around the edge of the park allowing you a wonderful unobstructed view of the city of Bath. A must for pic's of the city that would match any post card. The park is a 25 minute walk from the bus station or hop on a bus that will take you to the bottom of the hill. A free place to relax, enjoy a wonderful view, have a picnic and allow kids and creatures to play safely. One of Bath's best kept secrets. Top tip walk or take the bus as parking can be hard to find on busy days. There are toilets close by.

A steep climb, but the best views do tend to be on the top of hills one finds. Better since they have cut down trees to improve the viewpoints.
