“Charming and lovely hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2012

It was our first time trying boutique hotel. After reading all the positive reviews on here, we had high expectations and the hotel did not disappoint us. We had the Garden Suite which is very roomy with a private door to the garden. It has a small room for family with children, that is separated from the main room by a curtain. Furniture is charming. Bed is super comfortable, probably my favorite thing about this hotel. The bathroom is also beautiful, with high end toiletries, a bathtub, and a shower stall. Breakfast is very tasty and more than enough. Love the buttery croissants! Staff is wonderful, too. The hotel is a bit out of the way to visit the center of Bath but we took a taxi which cost about 6 pounds, not a big deal. Over all, it was a great experience and it was our first of many stays at boutique hotels!

We stayed on a Sunday night in November. Our host was very welcoming. Gave us a tour and showed us to the Waterloo room which was nice. Nice linen and spotless. Breakfast was pretty good. Met by a friendly dog downstairs. The honesty bar was a very nice too too. I would stay here again. Kind of on a par with one three nine another boutique b&b in bath.

We ate in yak yeti yak in town which was excellent. No 5 on pulteney bridge is also good for lunch. Good value cocktails in browns Sunday - wed.

I have just had the pleasure of spending two nights at the Apsley House Hotel , and can only join in with countless other reviews in praising this gem of a hotel . We stayed in the Champagne room , which was on the first floor . The room was well decorated , quiet and with a comfortable bed . The bathroom was lovely, compact without a bath , but with a good size powerful shower , and the added bonus of Molton Brown toiletries . Tea / coffee / hot chocolate and biscuits were provided in the room , and were happily replenished on request . Nothing is too much trouble here, every member of staff we found extremely polite and curteous , and if there is anything you need you just ring the bell in reception and it is sorted out.
Just a short mention here about the breakfasts provided as they are covered in detail by many other reviews .There was a lovely selection of fresh fruit / yoghurt / cereal , then a good choice of hot food freshly cooked to order ,and a different " Special " everyday .The food was delicious - First class all round !!
The hotel is ideally situated for a pleasant stroll into the centre of Bath , with the luxury of free parking outside the hotel itself . Many other hotels charge for parking , or supply you with a permit to park your car on the street nearby . The stroll into Bath took about 25 minutes , and took us through Victoria Park , which is a lovely park with a fantastic playground for children , and good size skatepark for the older kids . The park is very well maintained , and looked very popular with families . The walk into town is downhill - always a bonus , but taxis were a reasonable £7 or there is a bus stop outside the hotel if you want to save your energy for the shops!
We found that going midweek avoided the masses of crowds in the Roman Baths /. Thermae Spa . These were still busy , but not as frantic as on a weekend We paid £35 each for two hours at the Thermae Spa, included in the price was a robe , towel and slippers . There is an option for four hours , but we found two hours of being poached to death just right . It is a great place to visit and just chill out especially in the heated roof-top pool .
There are lots of fine eateries in Bath and the staff at the hotel are very helpful in suggesting places to visit , there is also a useful list of local places to eat / drink provided in the hotel information pack in your room . We visited the Weston , which is the second pub down the hill on turning right when leaving the hotel . This was a lovely pub , with very good reasonably priced food , not your typical pub-grub at all , and with the added bonus of being ten minutes walk from the hotel .
I have visited Bath before , and stayed previously at a 5* hotel , the Apsley House Hotel easily surpassed this . it's a wonderful place to stay .

My husband and I spent 2 days in he lovely romantic room. It was very comfortable and cosy. All the staff were helpful, courteous and welcoming. The breakfast was to die for. I have stayed in 5 star hotels all over the world but have never been served such a succulent English breakfast. The quality was top notch and the presentation was excellent. It tasted absolutely delicious. We stayed at Apsley on recommendation from a friend and I am very pleased we did.

Apsley House Hotel is a 'bed and breakfast hotel', but not a b&b in the usually accepted sense. It is a lovely Georgian house outside the centre of Bath, and was built by the Duke of Wellington for his mistress! The room that we had was lovely, with a four poster bed and steps to the garden. The service was excellent in every way and could not be faulted. By concentrating on breakfast and no other meals one expects perfection and we were not disappointed. We enjoyed a freshly prepared and delicious breakfast in the elegant dining room overlooking the garden. We were treated as honoured guests and nothing was too much trouble for the staff, all of whom were charming. The only very slight niggle was the distance into the City. We were told 20 minutes walk, but it took us two 70 year olds at least twice that long! However, there is a bus top opposite the hotel!

Room Tip: Take advice from the very helpful reception staff.

Stephanie and Dave provided an apartment to us that fits exactly what I needed: a familiar space for my family and my daughter friend. They are so kind and friendly - the sort of thing that make difference for better in Bath.

Room Tip: If you are traveling with your family, and you're more than 3 book the Self Catering Coach House...

We stayed here for 2 nights as a treat as we wanted to see Bath.

My phone booking was taken by the manager (Steph) some time ago. She was extremely friendly and did all she said she would. (confirmations etc) 10/10.

Our room was ready early so we left our luggage in the room and explored Bath. If you walk into the centre it's a good half hour and uphill on return. You can always get a taxi if you want to though.

The room is a good size and the bathroom is excellent. We stayed in room 4 (Waterloo). You have a shower AND a bath.

Hotel internet connection was top rate for wi-fi. Good speed and easy to log on.

The niggles:

The tea/coffee box only has 1 pack of biscuits and the milk is a bit sparse. We could of asked for more but didn't so fair enough.

The red button on BBC works when you push it but you cannot get any news / sports stories up as the page just shows a page loading message and stays there. As we had the internet it was not an issue but could be for people without a computer.

The lighting system is confusing and it's hard to put lights on individually.

The heating is on timer and the room was cold at times. We had a small heater which we utilised which made some difference. We could of asked for the heating to be switched on but we just put extra clothes on or sat in bed.

The positives:

The staff. All good establishments rely on memorable staff. David and Steph were excellent. David helped me to get a sat nav postcode for a trip i wanted to make. The waitress on our departure day was also excellent (she works mainly in the dinning area i was told).

The Dog. He was an older dog (13) but lovely. He's a free spirit and goes where he wants. Lovely.

The breakfast. All food was top quality. Sausages / bacon were the best. They even made me some fried bread. A great selection to cover every taste. Good, quick service and the waiting staff were extremely attentive without being annoying (like many places).

We paid £120 per night and felt this was over what we would have paid, on reflection.
