“Very enjoyable guest house in Bath”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2013

Bath was our first destination in Europe and staying at the Aquae Sulis Guest House was a great way to start the trip. The staff were very friendly and helped us figure out the right buses to take to get where we needed to go and they made great dining recommendations. The breakfasts were excellent and clearly homemade and we enjoyed being able to use the dining area for our take away dinner. We had enjoyable conversations with others staying here during their visit to Bath. We booked the family triple on the second floor. It was very comfortable and seemed quite spacious compared to the typical hotel room. We had a really nice view out of our room. It was nice to be staying a little ways from the town center – the area was quiet and not crowded. There were nice looking houses all around the neighborhood with beautiful flowers and hedges. We will definitely stay at the Aquae Sulis Guest House again.

Room Tip: The family triple on the second floor at the front of the house had a quen bed and a single and had...

We booked the Family room for four on top floor (room # 7) at the Aquae Sulis with the B & B direct online as was cheaper than via www.booking.com or Tripadvisor etc. Also worth noting that if you book direct, there is a 5% discount for NHS and Forces employees if that applies to you. Our journey to Bath was quicker than anticipated so arrived early. Although the room was not ready yet, the very helpful receptionist provided us with our keys anyway so that we could head off into the town, leaving our car there to avoid having car parking issues. She also gave us directions, maps and advice so please pass on our thanks to her. The walk into town is about 30 mins or so but a very pleasant one if you go through the Royal parks and head towards the Royal Crescent. The room itself was clean, comfortable with plenty of storage and modern electronics such as flat screen tv, Ipod docking station etc. The breakfast was extremely tasty with a choice of cooked, cereals, pastries and fruit etc which we all loved! This is not a cheap stay (£170pn) compared to other 4* B & B’s we’ve stayed in around the country, but looks like that is pretty much the market price in Bath as the only other available option for the night (as everywhere else was fully booked!) was Holiday Inn with the two children sharing a sofa bed which is not an option and that was £150 so for the extra £20 to have their own beds in 4* accommodation and great breakfast it was £20 well spent!

Tip: If you are looking to eat somewhere nice within walking distance, turn right as you come out of the driveway and carry on walking about 10 mins to “The Boathouse”. This is a fantastic pub on the river with lots of outdoor and indoor tables with very tasty food! Would definitely go back to that pub again if we visit Bath again.

Very nice guest house in Bath! We loved our third floor room, perfect for a family of 4. Not fancy, but charming and cosy. Great little bathroom, clean and bright. Staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was lovely, in a pretty dining room. Nicely accessible by bus routes from train station, and into downtown Bath. We would definitely stay here again!

We booked on line direct with guest house, which was straight forward, but the personal touch of any email requests before we arrived were answered immediately. We checked in 2 hours before the due time, which was not a problem, and the service from Anna-Maria was 1st class, especially with the map of the to see and do in bath details. We were taken to our room outside the main hotel, and I would say that the room (Dr. Oliver, room 14) is a must when staying here. Totally detached and private, own parking space off road, and right through another door to a classy private garden (great when the other half only takes 5 mins to get ready!!!!!)
With a bus stop no more than a 1 minute walk away, and regular buses to and from Bath centre on weekends and weekdays, we had no use for the car for the duration of our stay (ask for an all day ticket for £4.20 each, and travel as many times on the buses as you like for the day, no drive and parking issues was a dream for a city centre)
Breakfast was pleasant, and when asked for 3 sausages, this was a problem the the staff.
A place we would try to book 1st when visiting the area again, very relaxing stay, and made to feel welcome (you can even bring our own take away food in to eat, and they warm your plates and set a table for you, brilliant)

Room Tip: Room 14, Dr. Oliver (private, detached and very comfortable, can even set your own roof temps, and a...

We stayed here because we couldn't get accommodation in town for the weekend. It was probably the best decision we made by default! This hotel is clean , friendly and feels like home with an included English breakfast to start your day. I would definitely recommend that travellers stay here, its just a little out of the way, however a nice walk into town if you have the time.

Thank you very much for taking the time to post your comments on your stay with us. Your feedback is extremely important to us and we are glad that we managed to give you the standards that you expected - and this was a good compensation for not finding your room in the centre. We do have the advantage of private parking which the city centre lacks and you can buy an all day bus pass for just £4.20 which guests find very convenient. Thanks once again for your feedback.
