Just enjoyed a fab day in Bath. We were dropped off by our tour guide and found a great little Cafe by Bath's Abbey. My husband had a meal from the special's board and I had the Bath Rarebit. The meal was excellent and we were served by a very friendly waitress. We sat outside in the courtyard and enjoyed the sunshine and the beautiful flowers. A very enjoyable lunch that was very close to our next stop "The Roman Bath's".

We were both drawn in by the bubble and squeak on the menu and both ordered it . On arrival we moved the eggs and bacon aside to look for the bubble and squeak hidden underneath only to find mashed potato, one plate had cabbage and a bit of onion mixed in it and the other just mashed potato and not much of it. As it was described as bubble and squeak with egg and bacon we expected that to be the main part of the meal, not a spoonful as an addition to the eggs and bacon. Traditionally in our family bubble and squeak is browned in a pan and not just potato that has grease from the egg and bacon on top of it. In conclusion a disappointing meal although the staff promised to pass our comments on to the chef.

Was here on Sunday after by-passing the que at Sally Lunn's and wanting to grab a quick bite. It looks nice from the outside, a bit cheap & cheerful looking inside. The service was pretty poor, all young girls, friendly enough but didn't seem to know what they were doing, way over-staffed. We ordered 2 soups (£4.50 each) but were soon told that the soup of the day had run out but that they were making a new batch of 'Red Pepper & Tomato' which I opted for. It arrived nuclear hot, burning my throat and was in-edible as it tasted so bad! Pretty sure it was just tinned tomatoes & onion tipped into a blender. While we were there we saw 3 separate tables of customers get up and leave as the staff had taken too long to take their order, or hadn't even noticed that they were there. There's plenty of eateries in Bath willing to take your money, my advice is to get off the beaten track a bit and find somewhere else.

After walking about Bath for a while we started to feel hungry and that we remembered this place down the side road from the Abbey.

We had a cream tea very nice looking, pancakes with maple surpy and ice cream and Red Leicester sandwich with side salad. We also had strawberry milkshake with cream, ice coffee with cream and chocolate sprinkles (over brewed so had to put two sugars in it) and a tea very nice.

Nice little gem to spend and bit of time away from the hustle and bustle of the town.

A return visit (a number of years apart - so expectations are high as are trepidations regarding was it as good as we remember?)

We should not have worried, a good menu, attentive service even though they were busy. Three of us with different choices all arriving together and enjoyable - reasonably priced, then back into shopping mode - counting the time to the next refuelling break!
