“The best place to stay in Bath”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2011

We've been staying here for several years now and it's always been very good but we have noticed the improvements under the new owners. The breakfast is absolutely first class. It's in a great situation for the city centre and the parking is a top priority for us so we can't think of anywhere else we'd rather stay! We used to stay in other B&Bs till we found the Villa Magdala.

Thank you for your review, we have made many changes since taking over in March, and there are many more to come along with our refurbishment, in a few weeks time.

We do hope you will return and see the changes in early March.

Have a lovely christmas!

Spent two nights here in mid-week, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location is excellent -- in a quiet position just a few minutes walk from the city centre, on a leafy road. Friendly and efficient staff, top quality breakfast, and facilities very good indeed. Our double room with four-poster bed was spotlessly clean and nicely furnished and spacious. Free parking is worth a lot, so close to the city centre. Thoroughly recommended! Just one tip -- better lighting please, for those who want to read in bed (the four-poster is very romantic, but the bedside lamps are not sufficient to read by......). But thanks -- if we come to Bath again, we will be back!

We have just returned from a 1 night stay. The staff were without exception friendly, helpful and efficient and the breakfast was as good as you'd get anywhere. Our room was quiet and comfortable and although the ensuite shower room was tiny it was spotlessly clean with good quality towels and toiletries. The location is excellent for a short stroll into the city and the on-site parking Is a bonus. I would happily stay here again and would recommend it to anyone. A gem of a B& B.

Ed and I spent 2 nights in a beautifully decorated twin-bedded room, with easy chairs & table & a lovely modern bathroom - all impeccably clean. The beds were blissfully comfy, and the only sounds came from a Robin & a Chaffinch singing outside our bedroom window each morning! Attention to detail was much appreciated, & the breakfast excellent, with complimentary Bucks Fizz! Wow! There's a tastefully furnished lounge, where we were served tea & coffee with our guest. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. VERY IMPORTANT: the location is quiet, with gardens behind and a verdant park in front - AND CAR PARKING is free! Parking in Bath is a nightmare - expensive & difficult to find a space. Five minutes' walk to the old city centre, along a leafy lane. We'll be back!!!

Room Tip: We had Room 1, a twin room with bath & shower. Up just a few (carpeted) stairs. The Robin &...

My wife and I stayed at The Villa Magdala over 3 nights in October and were both very happy with the hotel. When we arrived and were taken to our room (a superior double) we were pleasantly surprised at how large and how beautifully decorated it was (including a large, very clean bathroom). The room was also on a corner, so we had two windows, one looking across to Henrietta Park and the other down Henrietta street - a very pleasant outlook. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were wonderful, good variety and good size servings - we had the waffles with bananas - can certainly recommend this. The hotel is one of the few in Bath that has a carpark, which was great as we had a rental car. We parked our car on arrival and did not need to move it until we left 3 days later. Everything is within easy walking distance. An easy 4 minute stroll to the famous Bath weir, just 6 minutes to the Roman Baths and 20 minutes to the Royal Crescent. We found a fantastic Italian restaurant, "Martinis", in George Street, just 15 minutes walk from the Villa. Food there is very good and prices very reasonable - can highly recommend. The Roman Baths are fascinating and a "must see" but allow at least 3 hours to really take in the history and enjoy the site. Bath Abbey is also worth a visit - the inside is so ornate and the architecture incredible. A trip on the open top bus is a good way to see sights that you may otherwise miss - it also helps get your bearings for walking around the city later. We really enjoyed our stay in Bath and if we return we will definitely stay at The Villa Magdala again.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have a view of Henrietta Park.

Spent one night for a business meeting. We were really well looked after. Thought the property and location was excellent with a short walk to the town centre. Friendly and helpful staff and comfortable accommodation. Will certainly go back and spend more time here.

We stayed for 2 nights in a family room at the Villa Magdala. The guest house was pretty busy, but the staff were attentive and friendly (especially to our child), the breakfasts as good as previous reports suggested they would be, and it was great to be so close into the centre of Bath. The convenience of the parking and the quiet location were also much appreciated.

However, I was a little disappointed in the decor and finish of the room we occupied. I am not sure whether this is one still to be refurbished (I believe the owners are in the process of doing the rooms), but if it has been refurbished, it does need some attention -- especially the bathroom, where a crack in the sink and mould in the shower grouting were a little off-putting. The bed was also a little hard for my tastes, and might benefit from a mattress topper. In a perfect world, it would also be lovely to have non-packaged biscuits (given the Villa clearly has a kitchen that can make such things to a high standard!)

This all said, we would return, since for a short break, such things are hardly deal-breakers. I have stayed in better finished and equipped rooms in Bath B&Bs, but the location, breakfast and staff cannot be faulted.

Thank you for your kind comments, we have not started any refurbishment yet - we dont want to disturb our guests enjoyment of their stay with builders, noise and dust!

We are closing for complete re-furbishment in January. We know that some rooms are more in need of this than others.

All our beds are being changed to Hypnos ones with the refurbishment.

We do hope you will stay again after we re-open in February.
