We stayed for 3 Nights in November 2008. Sue and the staff made us so welcome. The rooms were clean and delightful and the food was first class. We couldn't fault Tasburgh house. The same couldn't be said for the weather.

Room was lovely, food was great, hotel has superb views, the staff are helpful and Sue is an excellent host. She is thoughtful and will go out of her way to make your stay special.

There was a family staying while we were there and it was the young son's birthday. They baked a cake especially, cleared the breakfast room and put up balloons so the little boy could open his presents.

I would definitlely go again!

Oh and Charlie the parrot is quite a character!

We wanted to spend a long weekend in Bath for a couple of reasons:
1. both my husband and I had been to Bath before but over 20 years ago and not together.
2. We were belatedly celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary.
After a lot of research on the internet we decided on Tasburgh House. We were greeted by Toni and Charlie (the parrot) and after being shown where everything was downstairs Toni showed us to our room. As we were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary we had ordered a bottle of champagne when we booked and it was waiting for us when we arrived.
We chose the Jane Austen room which was at the top of the house up 2 flights of stairs. The room was rather small but perfectly adequate for our needs. The beds were comfortable with lovely crisp linen and we found the room to be quiet with little or no road noise. The views from the back of the room were lovely, over the gardens to Bath in the distance. The bathroom was of a good size with plenty of hot water but be warned if you are over 5’ 8” the shower is under the eaves and very much tapered. There were tea and coffee facilities in the room with a teapot, a nice touch.
Our first evening we ate at the George pub which was a 15 minute walk along the tow path. The menu was varied and reasonably priced we would definitely recommend it.
Breakfast the next morning was served in the conservatory and a continental breakfast was included in the price. We didn’t try the full English as we thought it a little expensive but we can recommend the freshly squeezed orange juice from their wonderful machine that cuts the oranges in half and then squeezes them and also the porridge, very yummy.
The next day we walked into Bath along the tow path in the opposite direction to the pub. This took about 20 minutes at a leisurely pace, it’s a nice walk and you do meet some nice people while you’re strolling along. Note that cyclists also use this route and you can’t always hear them coming. Sue (the proprietor) gave us very good directions and we entered Bath by crossing the Pulteney Bridge and found our way to the Roman Baths etc.
We had dinner that evening in Aqua which served good Italian food in a very lively atmosphere. Toni made the reservation for us and ordered our taxi which cost £5.80 each way.
On our last night we had supper in the Tasburgh hotel, the food was good but we thought the drinks were a little expensive but as it was our last night we didn’t mind.
On the whole we thought that the Tasburgh was in a good location for walking into Bath and very comfortable and we were looked after well.
There were a few very minor things that did let the Tasburgh down slightly. Our teapot wasn’t cleaned after we had used it and our bin wasn’t emptied. Also the bathroom only had one hand towel until the very last day when we had two. We would have asked for another but we thought that was how they did things at the Tasburgh.
One last item and it’s purely our observation, we didn’t like the laundry scattered across the first landing in the mornings, it could have caused an trip or fall. I accept that laundry has to go somewhere while the beds and bathrooms are stripped but perhaps another place could be found. The items we’ve mentioned above didn’t stop us enjoying ourselves and we would recommend the Tasburgh to others. Sue and Toni are gracious hosts.

My husband and I were looking for a good hotel in Bath for our first wedding anniversary. I noticed The Tasburgh House Hotel on Trip advisor and thought we would give it a try as it had such good reviews.
We were not disapointed! We booked through the website and were quickly contacted by the owner who gave us information and directions.
When we arrived we were met by wonderful staff who treated us well and showed us to our room.
The room was immaculate and tastefully decorated. I loved the traditional features and the size of the room. I even liked the bear placed in the corner!
It was clean, spacious and well presented with pleanty of tea/coffee facilities in the room.
Only thing of note: I would have liked a bedroom safe as I had some expensive items with me but other than that it was a perfect stay with easy access to the city centre.

  • Liked — Style and access to the city centre
  • Disliked — No safe in bedroom and difficult access to rooms if you have young children.

Situated just above a canal, this intimate hotel puts you close to Bath but with the feeling of being in the countryside. You walk down to the towpath lining the canal with picturesque barges, and in one direction lies Bath and in the other direction a perfect country pub with great food and ambience (both about a mile or so away). Sue, the hotel owner, is very accommodating, spending a half hour on the phone to book our return to Heathrow (9 pounds by bus rather than ten times that much for a train with a change in London that takes only a bit shorter). We stayed in a little twin room on the top floor, with dormer windows and a view over the countryside. The house is nicely restored. The bed linens and comforters, and modern bathrooms, complete the elegant touch. We found this house to be a good value even with the lousy exchange rates. Take Sue's recommendations on where to eat and what to see. She's a delight.

Stuck, as usual, for a birthday idea for Doreen my wife, I remembered her comments following watching The Hotel Inspector and decided to book 2 nights there for both of us.What a good decision that was.I really cannot add to the previous TripAdvisor reviews although the following tips may be useful. Do arrive VIA the TOLL BRIDGE at Bathampton (50p). We didn't and it took us over an hour to cross the city centre. TRAFFIC IN THE CITY IS DIABOLICAL ! Using the toll road is a doddle - completely stress free.Sue greeted us on arrival and showed us to Austen room which was very nice with superb views over Bath from a small window that had a window seat. Her daughter Toni gave us details of 2 fairly local eating hostelries which we could walk to in about 20 minutes. We did try one of these, The Mill, but decided to venture into the city for our second and third nights. Toni recommended No 5 Bistro - just on Pulteney Bridge - and we enjoyed the food and service so much, that we booked a table for the following evening.Sue did offer us a pre-booked meal in the Tasburgh but we had to give her 24 hours notice, hence why we ate out. Frankly her extensive continental breakfast was so good perhaps we should have tried a Tasburgh evening meal. The No 4 bus stops outside the Tasburgh (request stop) and takes about 5 minutes into the city centre. However this service stops at about 7.30pm. The No 265 bus will also stop if hailed but is more infrequent. It does run until about 11.00pm though. A taxi back costs about £5 and considering the hilly area it's well worth it.There's a lovely walk via the Tasburgh's 7 acre rear garden and the canal towpath but having fallen on the wet towpath I would urge everyone NOT to use it following wet weather as it's very slippery. It's not on Sue's property but having mentioned our fall to her, she kindly gave us a bottle of wine and a bag of peanuts on our return to the Tasburgh, - a gesture that was very kind and much appreciated. We originally intended to stay 2 nights but extended our stay to 3 nights as we were made to feel so welcome. We will most certainly return, and would recommend the Tasburgh to anyone.

Our family group stayed at the Tasburgh for two nights in July 2008 and thoroughly enjoyed it. This hotel is well thought out, beautifully decorated and completely comfortable. Our room, the Piercy Shelley Suite, easily housed the four of us with plenty of room to spread out. The decor was in excellent taste and beautiful. The grounds were expansive and elegant. Sue and her daughter, Toni were attentive hosts. We loved the extras that we didn't have in any of our other hotels while touring the UK and Paris...simple things like washclothes, quality bath products, great water pressure and freshly squeezed OJ in the morning. Sue mentioned she that she tried to think of everything she would want to have to be comfortable...she absolutely got it right. City center is a downhill walk which can be a challenge to walk back up after a day of touring. We did one day and decided to take a cab the next. Driving into the city (about 10 min walk) is not an option. Traffic is usually at a standstill and parking non-existent. We had an enjoyable breakfast at the hotel and dined in town for dinner. Check out Loch Fyne in the city center for an excellent dinner value with the best service we had on our trip.
