“A good place to stay to enjoy Bath's many attractions”
Reviewed August 10, 2009

We booked a 3 night weekend break and paid £5 a night each for a front facing room with a view overlooking the hotel gardens and down into Bath. Ours was spacious and clean with a comfy bed. Reception friendly and helpful. Breakfast included choice of cereals, porage, juice and yogurt with hot food option as well (typical of Shearings for travellers who know the brand). Evening meal again fine with choice menu. Dinner time staggered from 7 pm - on arrival reception asked your preference for this. Good car park with space at the front and rear of the hotel and across the road; a must as a car in the city is not of much benefit where traffic jams are frequent. If you're on holiday then avoid the hassle of driving. Lovely downhill walk into Bath takes about 20 minutes and longer coming back obviously. There's a frequent bus service coming out of Bath which reception explains about and the stop is just outside the hotel. Evening entertainment is limited; the age of the hotel dictates the room sizes and so there is just no space for much variation. All in all good value for money. Our second visit and it won't be our last

Had a very relaxing weekend at the Lansdown Grove Hotel, the decor was a little bit tired but very clean and for the price (£79 for 2 nights) excellent value for money. The staff were the friendliest and most helpful I've come across and I have no complaints. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it or stay there again.

Had a wonderful trip to Bath, staying at the Lansdown Grove Hotel. The hotel itself looks very pretty from the outside and has nice lounges for relaxing in after dinner although the bar area was a limited in size. The hotel staff are attentive and helpful, and the food plentiful although obviously geared towards an older generation that enjoy English food / anglicised versions of other country's signature dishes - so not that tasty in my opinion, esp if you are used to eating at top restaurants in central London. Having said that the people around me were mostly (young) pensioners looking for value for money, and they seemed to enjoy the experience very much.

The hotel itself is comfortable enough alhough the decor is a little tired and could do with some updating. This is a grade-II listed property (along with most of Bath it would seem) so stuffy rooms (the fan supplied in the room was very welcome) and creaking floorboards were a problem, and the sound of othe guests walking past rooms was very audible. The best feature of the room was the shower which was surprisingly powerful - however the hairdryer was not, so I would recommend taking your own.

If you are used to better ie staying in 4/5-star establishments you won't find this hotel satisfactory. However I spent so much this weekend I consoled myself that this was the money I saved from picking the Lansdown Grove Hotel and was happy to make the economy on this occasion..

Bath is an amazing place, and I did enjoy my stay at the Lansdown Grove Hotel. I would recommend this hotel only to fit people / those with no objection to catching a bus!

I stayed in this hotel with a girlfriend for two nights for a girly get away. The room was very large with nice decor. The bathroom was big, very clean. The only thing that would have been nicer would be better quality towels. We ate in the restaurant both nights as the 3 course menu was more than a bargain! The food was good, a little pre-prepared but value for the price. Service was good but the wine waiter seemed to struggle with his knowledge of wines. The bar area was lovely with a very enthusiastic pianist.

All in all a great break.

Just returned from a 2 night break at the Landsdown Grove Hotel, good value for money.
Restaurant was nice, food really good, staff very pleasant.
The hotel (apart from restaurant) is badly in need of refurbishment, but there again we probably wouldn't have got it for such a agood price. It's little things like door handles falling off wardrobes, paintwork in desperate need of some new paint.
I liked Bath, loved the Roam baths, town nice, different shops from home, plenty of places to eat if we had needed to find somewhre. The hotel is on a hill but we got the bus so no problem there. Frank on reception was extremely helpful. Fantastic guy plays the piano Friday/Saturday evening in the bar, nice background music can still sit and chat.

We booked on a 'last minute' deal with criteria that the hotel must have a car park, located within easy reach of the M4 without having to enter the impossible narrow streets and one way systems of Bath centre (I would suggest checking directions on several booking agency sites as some are better than others), and within easy walking distance of the town centre. This hotel hit all the marks with the added bonus being the quality of the hotel itself. Very clean, comfortable with a relaxed 'feel' to it, and friendly professional staff - it far exceeded our expectations. The hotel is built into the side of a hill which meant that although the small lift worked okay, there are stairs and steps in the corridors that must be negotiated. Less mobile visitors should check the availability of suitable rooms. Our 'Ambassador' room was large, comfortable, clean and everything worked. This applies also to the bath room. Our rear facing 2nd floor room had a rather nice outside patio/garden area although the front facing rooms will have the views. The walk to the centre was an easy 15 minutes although the walk back was a bit of a challenge to the cardio vascular system - we felt very fit by the of our stay! The bus stop is just outside the hotel and there was a timetable in the room hotel information pack. Breakfast was good and no complaints there. We did not eat at the hotel during the rest of the day - the restaurants in Bath are something else and thoroughly recommended - so cannot comment on the hotel food. Good bar and relaxing lounge area. Bath itself is beige but well worth the visit. We reckon it will take 4 full days to see everything but the first thing to do in Bath must be to take the free (yes 'free' - no charge and tipping is not allowed) guided tour - a 2 hour walk around the main points of interest with the guides providing a first rate talk on Bath history and how it was founded.
