“Three day weekend”
Reviewed December 22, 2013

Went to bath for Xmas market and stayed at the Landsdown Grove Hotel. All staff very helpful, bedroom clean and warm, food menu on the first night wasn't to our taste so we upgraded. Second night the menu was good. The only draw back was the lift which will only take three persons at a time.Booked a car parking space for ten pounds and found out there is a free one at the rear of the hotel. To catch a bus to town [bus stop outside hotel just down the hill] number 31 bus £2.50 single/adult will take you as far as the start of town where the number 2 will take to the bus station [same stop and price]. If you have a taxi from town the cost is £5.90 - £6.10, so if there are two it is the same as taking the bus but quicker, on the other hand if there are four people it is slightly cheaper than the bus. Drinks are expensive at the bar and the only entertainment on one night was a quiz. Overall our stay was very pleasant and enjoyable and wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel to others.

Room Tip: Front facing room, second or third floor for the views.

Dear Rod f
I hope you had a lovely christmas and thank you for taking the time to post a review.
I am glad to see you enjoyed your stay.
Thats right the number 31 and number 2 buses go right by the hotel each day into the town centre.
Happy New Year
Jane

Went with Shearings Coaches and stayed at the Lansdown from Mon to Frid on a budget basis .
The hotel is a nice victorian place dating from 1884 and has nice character . It is situated high on a hill just outside the centre of Bath . We are both in our early 60s and the walk into the city downhill is a comfortable 15 min walk . It's a long haul back up and the £4.50 taxi fare is well worth it . Alternately a bus can be readily caught and bus passes used .
Our trip included the table d'hote menu , which could not be faulted . The breakfast is especially good and a kipper and scrambled egg set me up for the morning .
The staff are all very polite and the bar man , Abdel , always cheerful .
Overall we had a great stay in Bath .

Although a little dated, this hotel offered a great welcome from Frank and the team. Pleasant rooms, with reasonable size bathrooms and furniture. Good tea and coffee facilities in the rooms, trouser press, hair dryer, the normal facilities you would expect. Certainly would not be cold, good central heating. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good selection of Table de Hote meals, different each day, plus a good A La Carte selection. Easy walking distance to the city downhill and good bus service to get back, but a little expensive, if there are 4 of you cheaper to get a taxi!
Overall a very enjoyable stay

8 of us stayed there for a weekend. The hotel was clean and the staff very polite and helpful.
The interior décor is rather dated although the outside is very impressive. The location is fantastic with easy walking access down the hill to the centre of Bath and some of its main points of interest.
For the money paid this was excellent value. Our stay included half board and the food was very average but again for the price it was hard to complain. If I was to stay again I would eat out the second night. We played bridge in the bar which was very comfortable. A very big thank you to Jane the manager who sent the jacket I had left in the room we stayed at back to my home by courier within a day at no charge !

Spotless hotel. Downstairs decor gorgeous!!! Bedrooms a bit dated but very clean. Our room was huge plus very large bathroom. Cleaned everyday. All the staff were very friendly, polite and greeted you with a smile. The wonderful manager (Jane) came aboard our coach to welcome us and again when we left to wish us a safe journey home. Nothing was too much trouble. A nice touch was the little corner dedicated to Jane Austin. Amazing value for money. Only down sides for us was we didnt have a view from our room which was a shame as we had a huge window. Wish there had been some entertainment on some nights as it was too dark to go out. I would love to stay there again but earlier in the year.

Now this chain of hotels (Coast & Country) might not be 5*, but what you do get is incredible value for money on a short three night break with half board. Amazing building set high above and with views over the Georgian City of Bath, close to some of the best crescents and architectural set pieces. Oh - and excellent friendly service.

To be fair, I didn't stay in the hotel, only popped in for a drink. The tattooed man at reception told me to close the door behind me before saying hello. I went into the bar and ordered a Merlot and the barman pulled out a silver hose from which he filled my glass, as if he was filling up a car with diesel. To pay, I had to go back to the reception to use my card, all of which took about 5 minutes. Both men who served me were decent sorts, especially the waiter, but the place felt dead on a Saturday night, with only one guest sitting on his own. The whole place is in dire need of a refurb and the receptionist needs to be perky, not grouchy. Shame as this impressive building has some real potential. Ho hum.
