“Mis-leading prices”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2010

Be very careful when booking this hotel, I phoned about the spa package for a hen weekend and was given the price of 120 which is what is advertised i spoke in length to the member of staff about the spa break she even asked when i would prefer the glass of champagne on the Friday when we arrived or after the spa session as advertised. I them proceeded to pay the deposit and collect the relevent deposits from my party.
I then received a call advising that the price i was given was for B&B only and that the price was in fact 150 (after reading some of the reviews it seems this is not the first time the wrong price has been given). When I phoned back and spoke to the manager he advised that he had spoken to his staff and that they said that they had advised me that it was 150 this is not true as i would not have booked it at that price.
He was very unhelpful and even though it was their mistake they were unwilling to even compromise.
In view of the above i am glad we have had to cancel as if their customer service is that poor makes me wonder how good the hotel/experience with them would have been like.
I feel like i was made out to be a liar the manager was very unhelpful, I understand that mistakes can happen but feel that the relevant members of staff should own up to their mistakes.
Again beware when booking this hotel make sure you are getting what you are paying for!!!!!!!

The original enquiry was made with Rachael, a member of staff who has worked here (and managed) for over seven year. There is no way she would have quoted £120.00 per person for a spa break at the weekend. I have spoken to her and she confirms that she quoted £120.00 for B&B and £150.00 for the Spa package. When I spoke to the lady I offered her the option of keeping the booking as it was at £120.00 for B&B or spa package at £150.00. She was quite aggressive on the phone and was adamant she was quoted the spa package at £120.00, she then threatened that if we were not prepared to honour that price she would post a really negative review on TripAdvisor. I informed her we were not open to blackmail and that I would post a response if she were to do this. I consider the review she has posted completely untrue to verging on libelous. This woman is obviously using the threat of TripAdvisor reviews to command preferential rates with hotels and this surely is against the whole ethos of the website. Our advertised B and B rates at weekends are from £105 and the additional cost of our Spa package element is £30. Therefore, the starting price for a Spa package would be no less than £135 at weekends and increases according to the room type available.

Lovely character building, good location as convenient frequent bus service into Bath. (Not to be mistaken for the Bailbrook House Hotel just next door!)

Greeting not very warm on arrival and we felt like the poor relations, being consigned to a basement room which was cramped and I suspect in cold weather would be very chilly - due to nice, authentic sash windows but no secondary glazing. Lovely garden outlook. Several things not working: shaver light, table lamp and the kettle was faulty. Good shower but low shower ceiling height and wobbly loo seat. The double bed was small and had no bedside table on one side. We spent the night with 'dead limbs' due to encroaching on each other's side and the bed tipped into the middle - and we are a) slim and b) average weight.

We were overlooked by staff for some while at breakfast, despite waving at them, two further groups were served before us. The breakfast was very good, nice to have tea leaves and a good choice, however the staff need to be more aware of people. The flowers were a bit manky. Overall, the place is a classic Bath building, stunning from the outside but less than a comfortable/quality stay and for that reason, feels overpriced and we would not recommend to friends.

We chose this place because of positive reviews and because the price was reasonable compared to others in Bath. We had difficulty finding the location for a start as it right on a busy roundabout and is easy to miss. Fortunately there are some roadsigns that point to the location. While the old building looks impressive we were very disappointed with the tiny room we were given and the ensuite could almost fit into a cupboard it was so tiny. This was one of the smallest rooms we have ever stayed in and there was no where to place our large suitcases except on the bed. This was after struggling up three sets of stairs to get to the room. The handbasin was alongside the bed and we could not get the water to go down the drain until we got some attention and after that the sink gurgled all night. You could not turn around in the shower. On a positive side the breakfast was very nice and well presented and the hosts were friendly and the towels were very soft and large. The room was not noisy but it was so small it was almost claustrophobic. The free WiFi and free parking was appreciated.

Bailbrook Lodge is a Grade II listed Georgian country house built in 1890. In order to retain its character when converted to an hotel the en-suite showers and bathrooms installed were incorporated within the orignal rooms, which results in rooms and baths and shower rooms of various size. Our fifteen rooms include four with large bathrooms with fashionable "slipper baths" and five very large "four poster" rooms with walk in wet rooms. As indicated by the guest they were looking for "reasonable" accommodation in Bath and chose one of our smaller bedrooms with en-suite shower.

We had 2 nights in one of the four poster suites. This was extremely comfortable--one gripe, the shower in the "wet" room was rather pathetic, I fancy the water pressure is low.
Daniel and all the staff were superb-nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was faultless. The location was fine for us as we did not want the hassle of battling with the surprisingly heavy traffic to reach the city centre and then find somewhere to park. A bus stop is right outside or a taxi is about £6. Snacks are available in the evening, but if you want something more substantial, then I thoroughly reccommend The Bathampton Mill about 15 minutes walk away.

We had a wonderful long weekend break at Bailbrook Lodge. Our room was very large and overlooked the lovely back garden, the Four Poster Bed was a real treat and very comfortable and there was a great selection of beverages and biscuits in the room with really nice toiletries in the bathroom plus bottled water and a chocolate on our pillows - a nice touch and very unexpected. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful served by very friendly Staff, and the scrambled eggs were the best we have ever tasted. Dan the Manager really looked after us well, he made our weekend. He recommended places to visit , booked restaurants and taxis for us and nothing was too much trouble for him.
We felt thoroughly spoilt and had a very relaxing weekend. A big THANK YOU to a Great Team - we will return!!

We booked a 3 night mid-week stay @ Bailbrook Lodge which included a spa package for the Thermae Spa. When we arrived, after an 8 hour journey from Liverpool, via the scenic route, we were greeted by the very friendly manager, Daniel, who showed us around the Lodge and explained how to get around Bath city centre. This was extremely useful as we arrived the week that the main road into Bath was getting dug up due to gas works. Taxis cost around £6-7 into Bath, although it took us 20 minutes to walk from the Lodge which was pleasant, even in the rain!
Our room, The Lincoln Suite, was absolutely perfect and very romantic, with a 4 poster bed and lovely views across the Bath hillside. Although it was a bit old fashioned, it was very fitting with the feel of the Lodge. Rooms are cleaned daily including fresh towels.
At breakfast time, we were greeted by the friendly hotel staff and the breakfast was gorgeous, with everything on offer, from fruit, yoghurts, cereal, made to order full english, tea, coffee, juices etc etc.
Would defintely recommend a visit to the Thermae Spa, this is an extremely magical experience especially if you go of an evening when the roof top pool is lit up and the views over Bath were amazing. Very romantic!! The Lodge provided us with toiletries which was really good.
We also visited the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey and Cheddar Gorge in Somerset which were all well worth doing.
One night, Daniel booked us a table at a quiant Pub/Restaurant called Bathampton Mill. This is also a hidden gem and would recommend this to anyone visting Bath. The food and drinks were lovely and very reasonably priced.
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay @ Bailbrook Lodge and we would like to say a BIG thank-you to Daniel and his Team for making our stay really special and we cannot wait to return to the Lodge in the future.

The hotel didn't have a standard double left when we booked so as a surprise my husband booked a four poster for the first night and the standard double for the other two. The hotel left us in the room for the other two nights at the standard price which was lovely. The room was perfect for Bath it had a kind of faded grandeur. The shower wasn't the best in the world but it was adequate and every thing else was so perfect it would have seemed churlish to complain. I saw a review from someone else complaining about damp towels we mentioned it and they were immediately changed. It appears like most hotels they don't change them unless you leave them on the floor it is just there is nothing to tell you that. I would suggest a line on the guest info or a heated towel rail so they dried would be useful . This was not a problem and would in no way prevent us staying there again or recommending the hotel unreservedly to others. The breakfast was great ,the staff really friendly and the garden lovely. We particularly appreciated the incredibly reasonable price for a bottle of champagne something which is normally prohibitively expensive in hotels. We didn't buy any other drinks or food from the menu but we were really impressed by the prices. The hotel is really good at the little touches nice biscuits and toiletries in the room.decent size towels and two nice soft pillows each .
