“Bath was beautiful, but staying at the Bailbrook Lodge made it perfect”
Reviewed March 9, 2010

This was the luckiest find imaginable, we wanted a smaller, friendly Hotel preferably not part of a chain with a standard theme and the very pretty Bailbrook Lodge fulfilled and exceeded every expectation for service, location, comfort and cleanliness free on-site parking is also a big plus. Daniel and his Staff were so kind, helpful and welcoming, sharing all their local secrets for the best places to eat and visit, we felt part of the family. Although Dinner is not available, there are snacks and the breakfasts and afternoon tea are just delicious, their dinner recommendations were perfect.,

We had booked and paid for the Barcelo Combe Grove Manor but they had double booked the hotel so we ended up here. It's in a good location, taxi to the centre of Bath was only 5 min drive and £6 in taxi. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They only negative was the bedroom was tiny, I;ve never seen such a small hotel room and the decor was very dull and dated.

Stayed at this hotel for the Spa break package. Had some trouble finding it in the first place as the directions given miss out an entire roundabout and part of the road so beware of that. Staff are friendly and helpful when asked but they need to be asked for everything. I had expected to be informed of the plans with the Spa break and afternoon tea arrangements on arrival but literally every detail needed to be drawn out of the staff. I think they are of the opinion that you will do your own thing. To be fair, once they got started they were fine. Vouchers for the Spa are given to you along with a bag containing slippers, towel and toiletries. Getting to the Spa is your own responsibility but with a bus stop just along the road and buses every 15 mins it's no problem. At breakfast the dining room is not capable of holding all of the guests at one time, I think the staff expect sittings to be more staggered than they are so you might have to wait in the drawing room for 5-10 mins until a table is free. Again, if you want anything it is best to ask as they are not the most forthcoming with offering you any more tea, toast etc than they originally bring, which is only one slice each.
The bedroom was quite small but very nice. The sink was in the bedroom rather than with the toilet and shower which was a bit strange but no real problem.
To sum it up, this hotel is perfectly good for a visit to Bath if you are not in a huge hurry, as you will need to use the bus if you don't want to drive in to town, and is good if you don't mind asking for everything that you need. The final bill was as advertised and as expected.

Received excellent service from friendly staff. The room was a little on the small side but a decent sized ensuite bathroom. It was clean and had a beatiful view of Bath and surrounding countryside.

Located just out of town and only a short trip to the Town centre, was an idyllic place to stay for peace and tranquility. The bus stop is very close to the lodge which made travelling about easy.

So many good qualities to this charming lodge- breakfast buffet and a tasty cooked breakfast menu was included in the price; amenities bar in the room was always stocked with complimentary snacks and a range of hot drinks; slippers and toiletries supplied; evening menu for light snacks at a decent price; lots of information on places to visit in reception and staff were always about to help with any enquiries.

Will definately be staying there again, highly recommended!

A very disappointing stay at this "hotel" The helpful staff and the lovely breakfast are the only thing my friends and I can recommend. One room was so small there was only room for one bedside table and had bars at the window, no curtains, just shutters. It had a small wetroom next door but the ceiling would challenge a tall person. The other room had a sink next to the bed and a toilet and very old shower in what seemed like a cupboard.
The rooms were certainly not what was portrayed in the brochure and very poor value. If you wish to go to Bath town centre it is a very long walk along a busy road.
The impression we were given that other rooms are bigger, certainly in our experience the hotel was very disappointing and would not recommend it.

upon arrival we liked the look of the exterior of the hotel, what upset us was the fact that we had specifically asked for an early check-in, we were informed that as long as we were tyhere after 11am that would be ok. When we arrived at 11:30 we were turned away and told to return at 2pm.

Overall the room was clean and tidy, the en-suite shower and toilet were immaculate, the bed was small and uncomfortable.

This hotel definately does not deserve the 4 star rating

After spending some time browsing the hotel/spa packages available to me in the Bath area, I finally plumped for this one, and I'm very glad I did! I booked a four-poster room for 2 nights, which included 2 breakfasts, 2 afternoon teas, and 2x 2-hour pool sessions at the Thermae Spa with towels and slippers (something that would cost you extra to hire from the spa otherwise). £350 all-in.

We had a room on the first floor (the 'Beau Nash' room) which seems to feature in all the photos on this site, and the hotel's own site. Decadently furnished, with oodles of storage, seating, tables to keep things in/on, and a lovely view of the garden from the window.
There is an en suite wetroom shower/toilet, though the basin is actually within the main bedroom. This seems to be a bone of contention for many reviewers on this site, but in my opinion it was very convenient and unobtrusive. It's right next to the door to the loo anyway, so I don't see the issue.
The shower was quite scaled up, but a moment of scraping with finger nails and it was in full working order again.

The staff were friendly and helpful, although the only service we really experienced was at breakfast, as we asked not to have the room turned down every day. Still, we never waited for more than a few minutes for anything at breakfast.

Breakfast was very nice, with a decent number of choices available. Tea/coffee and toast with marmalade were provided whilst deciding on what to have.

In all honesty, the only complaint either of us can think of regarding our stay at the hotel, is the flimsy plastic bags we were given to carry our towels and slippers to the spa. Something a bit more substantial and attractive would have been nice.

Location-wise, the hotel is just a 5 min drive from the city centre (about £6 taxi fare, or a 40 min walk), though traffic can be awful along that road at peak times.

We had a lovely stay, and would definitely recommend the Bailbrook Lodge to friends.
