“personal touch hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2013

we stayed at this hotel for my 5oth birthday and had a really lovely time. The staff were a credit to this hotel.they were friendly and exceptionally helpful and added the personal touch, which is hard to find in any hotel both in the UK and abroad. We arrived after a day of traveling and Ed made some egg and bacon sandwiches that were really nice.It was clear he had made an effort. The room was warm, clean and well presented and had lots of extras incuding a dvd player,Ipod dock and trouser press and many other items. The hotel is located about 2 miles out of town and costs about £8 - £10 in a taxi. The breakfast was very nice and offered an abundance of food for all.I would also like to mention that we required a DAIRY FREE DIET and the hotel staff made sure they could cater for our needs and taken into consideration that cruise ships have struggled to meet our needs. The only comment i would make as negative is that for larger people the four poster bed is on the small side. When i mentioned this to one of the staff she advised me they are getting bigger matresses in about a month and i think they have a couple of rooms with kingsized beds.

Went here on Sunday 14th April, not a very cold day but room was chilly. Lady at reception very nice and place on first impression was old world and quaint. Paid extra for four poster room, very large and all old style furniture. However, the windows were old and my husband could put his hand in between them imagine the draught!!!

Mentioned this to the lady as the part of the room where the heater was was warm but as soon as you moved away towards the windows it was cold. She said there are shutters that can be closed to stop the draught. We understand that they cannot change the windows completely, She struggled with the shutters for a while but you could still see daylight through them, this would not be draught proof but she assured us that when the curtains were drawn it would be ok. I do not know whether she expected us to keep the shutters and curtains drawn all day long to stop the draughts!!!!!

When she shut the shutters it also showed the walls both sides of the windows, these were in a bad state. Chunks of plaster were missing and left actual holes in the wall, again with a draught!! Bathroom was also fully tiled but was a bit shabby looking and old. Sink is in the bedroom. Door did not fit and close properly on the cabinet which housed the TV. The package we booked was for four poster bedroom, this was to include drinks facilities in room, fruit on arrival in room, dressing gowns and slippers. When we arrived there was limited drinks in room, no slippers and no dressing gown. When I requested these she gave us slippers but said gowns were being washed and not available until the next day.

By the time we had dealt with the windows we had had enough an told her it was not warm enough to stay here the windows were too bad, I had been very ill and this place would have put me in hospital again. She was still very nice about it but said she could do nothing, when pushed she checked with their sister hotel in Bath. Our deposit was refunded as I complained. The Royal hotel had rooms so we went to them, they had secondary double glazing. After checking the room we had to repack and move. Would recommend staying at The Royal. Bailbrook lodge is dated, quite shabby looking, cold and does not give what is advertised. We have also left a review on the Royal hotel.

Thank you for your comments regarding the Four Poster Room at Bailbrook Lodge.

Yes, it was a cold and very windy day. The windows in this room are 14ft tall, Grade 1 listed and over the past 150 years they have probably shrunk a little here and there which may have caused a draught, however nothing like the gale you described thankfully. The traditional wooden shutters are effective, together with the 14ft heavy curtains, in keeping out any draughts. The radiator is 8ft in length and very effective. The wet room has a heated towel rail. Additional electric heaters can be provided, if requested.

It was unfortunate that you arrived early as the room had just been serviced, which meant that the windows had been fully opened during the maid service to ensure it was fully aired ready for the next guest.

I knew that you didn't feel comfortable hence the reason that I offered to arrange to move you to our sister hotel The Royal, which is in the centre of town.

I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay at the Royal. The Royal and Bailbrook Lodge use the same laundry service. The dressing gowns hadn't arrived by the time you checked in and we would have automatically put them in your room when they arrived later that afternoon.

All rooms at both Bailbrook Lodge and The Royal offer guests the same complimentary bottled water, welcome tray with biscuits, cafeterie with fresh coffee, selection of teas, drinking chocolate and instant coffee.
I apologise for any discomfort you may have experienced and once again I am delighted it all worked out in the end,

Best Wishes,

Justine Lewis

A charming little hotel who's best asset is the staff , so many smiling faces was a delight , Justine the receptionist was really helpful and charming as was the waitress that served us breakfasts....The rooms are on the small side , but the bed was comfy and the room warm...the hotel is nicely placed for ease of access to the city centre ,off of the main London west road but it is laid back enough so the traffic isn't a problem,....overall great value for money , I booked through Travel Zoo and thought £200 odd quid for three nights good value .......keep the smile going Justine ............p.s organising flowers for the love of my life's birthday was a nice touch ....would use again when visiting Bath! xx

Room Tip: Upgrade to the four poster bedrooms if you can afford the extra £20 the standard rooms are quite sm...

This guest house/inn is a perfect spot for a stay when visiting Bath. It is a short bus ride away from the city itself, being located in a kind of suburb. It seems to be a throwback to less hectic times; and is totally charming in all respects. The room was small but very pretty. The full English breakfast was superb and the staff very friendly and welcoming. Parking is included at the rear of the building, a few steps from the front door. The gardens looked beautiful; and I would love to come back and see them when everything is in bloom. Coffee and tea in the lounge are complimentary; and we enjoyed a good hot cup of tea on a cold evening returning from a full day in Bath. Although I was with my sister this time, Bailbrook Lodge would be a perfect spot for a romantic getaway. I definitely will be back. People approaching Bailbrook Lodge by car must be careful not to confuse the entrance with that of Bailbrook Hotel which is next door.

Booked online without seeing Hotel and was pleasantly surprised.
Location good for Bath, on foot or bus or Taxi.
e arrived Easter weekend (Rugby also on that day) so traffic VERY heavy, but walked in and got bus back - stops right outside.
Room (4-poster) was great, food and hospitality also 1st class.
If you're travelling to Bath grat choice.

Room Tip: Plan travel into Bath - watch weekends / bank holidays

I really enjoyed the spa package offered by Bailbrook Lodge. For less than £200 per person, we had two nights accommodation, two generous breakfasts, an afternoon tea on the Saturday and entry to the spa in Bath.
The staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. The food was good. The bedrooms are fairly small but everything was clean and the room size did not prove problematic. The decor is rather old fashioned but this perhaps added a degree of 'quaint-ness' to the stay.
The B&B offers free car parking which is very welcome in Bath. If you are going for a night out in Bath, I would recommend Circo cocktail bar.

On our arrival at Bailbrook Lodge we were greeted in a very warm friendly manner and shown to our room. The room was beautifully and tastefully decorated, very clean with a very comfortable bed and all amenities thoughtfully provided. Towels were good quality, fluffy and clean, even slippers were provided. We had a lovely dinner in Bath at Jamie Oliver's Italian restaurant and enjoyed a lovely walk back (about 25 mins). Our room was lovely and warm on our return. Breakfast was a treat. An excellent choice including fresh prepared fruit, cereal , croissants, full English, salmon and scrambled egg, kippers etc. it arrived quickly and beautifully prepared. Looking forward to returning to Bailbrook lodge on our next visit to Bath.
