Great room - with four-poster, comfortable settee, decent reading lights, practical and attractive looking desk. Atmosphere in spades, and a cleverly designed shower room tucked away out of sight. So close to the motorway and yet so tranquil. Breakfast was just great - the best kippers on my entire trip in the UK. Service was friendly without being intrusive. (I'd never call a chocolate on my pillow intrusive). Wifi worked in our room, even though management suggested we might need to use it downstairs.
As an accommodation option, it was comfortable and good value.
A slight downside -- and not really an issue for this hotel's management -- was the vexed question of where to eat dinner, particularly if one had had enough driving for one day and just needed something simple. When you travel for six weeks away from home, just occasionally you might not be able to face another fancy meal. If you end up in this predicament, do just get back in your car, and drive back into Bath.

Lovely place BUT ...is any one cleaning this place or is it another job for the manager! We arrived and were very welcomee show around and taken to our room. Lovely 4 poster bed and shower room...On day one we got one large clean towel...so hubby went down too ask for another ,,,,,he was gone ages and returned saying he had to ring the call bell 3 times. Hubby also asked for the bed to be made .....it had been pushed in under the matteress...not tucked in so it was as we had got out of it just shuvved under matteress......We didnt ask for this to be remade as we didnt wish to go out that evening. On day two the bed was changed! by then we had noticed dust dust and cobwebs. The dust is all over the 4 poster bed canopy and on the head board and cobwebs round the reading lights .....Hairs beehind the rad in the shower room and the toilet seat was loose!!
We paid £150.00 per night annd I work as a head house keeper in a large hotel ...when checking out I said housekeeping needs to sharpen up .......I was quickly told its the end off the season!!!!! Bless my soul ........we dont get an end of season in our place and they will be having a deep clean ...well bless my soul ....we dont get to do that either we HAVE to keep up.
Shame, really its a lot of money for such a poor amountt of silly reasons for your lack of a duster...You must alow 30 mins for a room clean and I know your housekeeper isnt doing 30 mins .....

This review has me puzzled. We are not a seasonal hotel, all of our rooms are dusted and hoovered daily. Every guest is shown to their bedroom when they check in, hence the the reason there is a bell at reception.
Nobody at Bailbrook Lodge has ant recolection of any guest reporting a loose toilet seat or of poor housekeeping. It may be possible that this reviewer has posted their comments to Bailbrook Lodge in error.

It was a dark and windy night and we needed a overnight stay at short notice. This hotel was well signposted from the roundabout off the A36 into Bath town centre. The room was clean with a very comfortable bed, ok bathroom and tea and coffee. Just what we needed. Breakfast was very tasty and the staff friendly and helpful. Would stay there again.

The Bailbrook Lodge hotel is a pretty Georgian building with comfortable rooms all in the house. The staff are friendly and obliging and the breakfasts extremely good- probably the best we have had. The house is set back from the roads and the bedrooms are therefore quiet. Our room, at the back overlooked the tree-backed car-park, and we could leave the car in complete confidence. We thoroughly recommend the Bailbrook Lodge and staff.

Room Tip: All rooms fine. Morning sunshine at the front of the Lodge. A superb guesthouse to find. Excellen...

Our visit to Bailbrook Lodge was one of a mixed visit. Our first opinion of the Lodge was it looks pretty, however this changed when we saw the dripping overflow pipe as you enter. I guess it's nice having a waterfall!! When we entered we were greated by friendly staff, although were asked to fill in a registration form. We felt this was very old fashioned and after a long drive we just wanted to get to our room. Time could have been saved if a computer had been used. Having lived in university halls in a similar type building a few years ago I felt the corridors of the building were student like. Our room was nice overall, bathroom was modern, clean and had a nice feel. We felt the general room was smaller than expected from a '4 star hotel'.
Breakfast - I sat in the perfect chair if I had of been a hotel critic, however I am not so would have preferred not to hear that my kippers were frozen and the staff unsure how to cook the said kippers. After realising that they need to be defrosted first they put them in the microwave on quick defrost. :-/ I felt again for a '4 star hotel' the microwave was being used a lot! However the staff seemed very happy and friendly, although it looked a different situation in the kitchen with all hands to deck... and not one wearing a hairnet.
Our experience to the Bailbrook Lodge was mixed and would feel a '3 star rating' would be more appropriate, our visit was generally positive and would consider returning again with lower expectations.

1india, General Manager at Bailbrook Lodge, responded to this review, September 8, 2011
All bathrooms are fitted with an overflow pipe for our guest’s safety. The overflow occurs when too much water is in the cistern. The plumber was called and the problem was fixed. It is a legal requirement to register at a hotel on arrival. Our kippers are delivered fresh. We hold a small supply of frozen ones as a back up only. The assistant cook on duty that morning had only ever cooked fresh kippers thus the confusion as how to deal with a frozen one. The microwave is only used to heat the baked beans. All food handlers are fully trained on kitchen hygiene hence the reason we are happy to have the kitchen door open to the view of guests. All food handlers with long hair automatically wear hair nets which we supply. I do hop the guest returns to Bailbrook Lodge as we measure our success on repeat visits.

We had a fantastic stay here with beautiful rooms in a pretty garden setting. The service here was fantastic with a delicious breakfast. Daniel could not have been more hospitable and great at offering advice on places to go, eat etc. We would really recommend Bailbrook Lodge .

We stayed at the Bailbrook Lodge in Aug 2011, we found our room very comfortable and well presented, the service was plesant and very accommodating. The cooked breakfast was one of the best I've had in a long time. All in all a lovely place to stay if visiting Bath.

Room Tip: Room 25 over looks the gardens and has a double bed
