“We wouldn't stay again”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 9, 2012

We had to stay here with no notice due to an overbooking at another Best Western.
We had a terrible room 51 which overlooked a portacabin and lots of rubbish so not a good start.
The hotel had a wedding and a bus trip in on so all the sitting rooms were taken over to this. The pub at the end of the road was ok for a meal but nothing special.
The breakfast was a bit like a canteen with the buffet and the dreaded serve yourself toaster.
So not a good experience for us but the Manager on duty was very understanding to the situation.

Room Tip: Not room 51

I am very disappointed you did not enjoy your stay with us we feel we have a lovely hotel and I can only assume you were unhappy at being “booked out” by another hotel.

Our 16th century village pub at the bottom of our drive is incredibly popular with our guests and a true country Inn.

We have many compliments regarding the variety and quality of our breakfast and the “dreaded” toaster is well received by our guests.

I hope we do have the pleasure of welcoming you back when we would be delighted to ensure you are allocated one of our valley view rooms.

As you drive through the countryside and up the drive to this beautiful stately home-like Hotel, you feel like royalty. The Hotel was lovely inside, with friendly and attentive staff. The rooms were comfortably furnished, and well equiped. it is hard to beleive that you are only 15 minutes drive from the historic city of Bath. Sadly I just stayed one night to break up a journey, but I'd love to go back for longer.

Room Tip: Don't have a room on the third floor if you don't like stairs, as the Lift only goes up to t...

Thanks for the very kind comments regarding our "stately home" the building is indeed listed and parts date back to 1760 and what with being in an area of outstanding natural beauty we provide a fantastic venue for stays and special occasions.

the location of this hotel was a little difficult to find but once we did it was definitely worth the effort, lovely old building looks like a stately home, stunning views.our room was at the front and had gorgeous views of the countryside.only stayed here one night after a day at the races. thought we would try this hotel because others in the centre of bath were either full or too expensive. it was approx 4 miles from the centre of bath so wasnt too difficult to get to, cost about 11 or 12 pound in a taxi. not a lot around this hotel if you want nightlife just a pub down the road but bath itself had a lot going on.didnt try the main menu at the hotel but did have breakfast.this was really good.plenty of choice - cereals, toast croissants fruit juices, yogurts and a cooked buffet breakfast which was a choice of proper bacon, really tasty sausages ,beans, tomatoes, scrambled egg, fried bread and plenty of it as you helped yourself to everything.and if you didnt like that you could order boiled eggs, porridge, kippers,so there really was something for everyone.our room was very well decorated and clean.the bathroom was lovely good shower.flat screen tv in room and amenities like coffee and tea and drinking chocolate.shower gel,a needle and cotton, shoe shine and shower cap,so all in all a very good hotel considering what we paid, would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: ask for a room with view of countryside if possible

Thank you for your review regarding your recent stay at our lovely hotel and yes the views across the Avon Valley are simply stunning as you say. Breakfasts are very popular here with an excellent choice always available and freshly cooked. We also believe that we offer excellent value for money and not being too far from Bath City centre but without any parking problems make us a very popular destination.

This was a lovely situated hotel but you need a good handbrake to negotiate the steep hills.
The rooms were very comfortable but the decor in the corridors was terrible and badly needs a facelift.
Breakfast was great, a reasonable hot selection.

Room Tip: This hotel often has wedding parties so choose a room on the second floor, it's quieter.

The hotel was a bit hard to find at first, but once we did, we just fell in love with the location! It is situated on top of a little hill in the middle of a beautiful residential/country area outside of Bath. The hotel’s building is stunning from the outside. The inside is dated and could be much better. Our room was very comfortable and quite. The staff was very polite, helpful and accommodating. We would recommend this hotel to those who appreciate older more historical buildings and those who enjoy England’s lush country side.

Stayed here 16th - 18th Sept after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor and having trouble finding hotels in Bath that came with free parking. Hotel is set in a small village (no amenities) set on the hill and has lovely views of the countryside. Staff were very helpful/friendly and rooms were good. Only had breakfast at the hotel, which was limited choice (few cereals/jams/approx 5 cooked items/toast/croissants) but you could order kippers, porridge eggs etc which was included. parking was substantial, though on the Monday we did struggle to find a space again after going out to dinner.
Only bad points:
* bed mattress was hard/duvet very heavy so I struggled to get a full nights sleep
* as the building is old (used to be a farmhouse) you do hear most things through the walls, especially every time your hotel neighbours flush their toilet!
* shower was temperamental - first shower of the day was hot, next luke warm and don't even think about having an afternoon/evening shower
