Reviewed July 22, 2012

We arrived hoping for a nice place to spend the night pre and post a local wedding.
The location was great, very central and a stone's throw from the baths where the wedding was held.
Our room was ready (ahead of time 10am) good news! when we got in it was v small and v basic. My wife wanted to shower...The window blind only reached three quarters of the way down the window. In effect, you have to shower on the ground floor in full view of a busy street.
I went to reception and expressed my dissatisfaction and was moved to another room.
On the 3rd floor we avoided the voyeur problem.
Sadly in our new room the shower was as powerful as a wheezing asthma sufferer (I am one...) coughing spit on you.
After 10 mins the temp warms up.
To sum up:
Very central
£143 per night
No breakfast
Ropey rooms
No parking (nearby £12 per day)
Travel Lodge interior
DON'T DO IT!!!!

BTW- The staff were lovely. Not their fault. Clearly management to blame!!!

My mother and I are both carers and often go away for a short break. This is the 2nd time we have been to the Abbey and we found it great . The rooms are clean, spacious and well equipped and the beds were very comfortable. The staff are friendly and very helpful, nothing being too much trouble.

The restaurant seved a lovely hearty breakfast and again good service. We stayed in for dinner one evening as we had heard about the new chef and menu. We both felt that the menu could have had more variation, too much fish for the main courses and the starters, we are not big fish eaters. We had a steak with all the trimmings and it was deliceous! cooked to perfection and the presentation was excellent and again the service was excellent.

We definately will be going back as the hotel is so central to everything and reasonably priced.

Having read some reviews of the hotel I was slightly apprehensive about the hotel however, I could not have asked for better. I was visiting Bath with my elderly mum and so the location was brilliant. The room on the 2nd floor at the back was big and airy and had everything we needed including toiletries and tea/coffee making facilities. The breakfast was first class with a varied choice and the service was great allowing us to take our time. All in all a great experience and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it to others.

I stayed at the Abbey Hotel for one night. Upon arrival we were upgraded, so our room was larger and had robes and slippers, bottled water etc. The key-card machine at reception was not working so a member of staff had to let us into our room. this was not fixed during our stay so we have to be 'let in' each time we needed to get into the room. This was not a problem however as there was always someone free to take us. The room was large and clean, but the bathroom door was broken. worryingly it turns out it would not open from the inside. Luckily when I got stuck in the bathroom because of this, my friend was in the bedroom and therefore able to let me out. We informed reception but we were not offered another room and it was not fixed during our stay. It did mean we had to use the bathroom without closing the door - we are good friends but not that good!! It was particularly worrying because if it had happened to someone on their own, who knows how long it would take for them to get out - the room was at the end of a very long corridor and there were no windows in the bathroom to call from for help. Unless you are the type of person who takes a mobile phone into the bathroom, it could have been a really scary situation.
One highlight of the trip was breakfast - the cold food was buffet style and the hot food cooked to order. It was delicious and would have stood up well against any 4 or even 5 star hotel food.
The location of the hotel was amazing - very central. Like most properties in Bath there was no dedicated guest parking, so factor in parking charges if you plan on staying there - the closest 2 pay and display car parks cost around £13 a day and are a few minutes walk away.

My mum and I satyed there for a weekend in Bath, lovely and clean with great service. The staff were on hand to help us with any queries we had and did the phone work to see if there was any massages openings available. Very nice breakfast as well. Very central to all the sights.

This is a lovely place to stay in Bath and we wished we had spent longer there. It was very central, clean, comfortable and friendly. Wifi wasn't working when we were there and parking isn't free as listed in the description of the hotel. You need to park in a pay and display as parking is scarce in bath so this needs to be taken into account if you are driving. Apart from this we would return

This was the third time we have stayed at the Abbey Hotel and it has had a change in management since last time. Its chief assets remain its great location - a few steps to Sally Lunns, the cathedral and the Roman Baths - very good breakfasts and very helpful and friendly staff. There were more problems this time. The lift was broken down - but that can happen anywhere. The first room we were given was on the front, very noisy at night and the double glazing was broken. The second room was much quieter but the bathroom blind was inadequate to cover the window by several inches. My main gripe , however, is the introduction of piped music that starts at 7am and goes on to 11pm. If you are in a first floor room situated over the ceiling speakers you are unable to escape the sound of Michael Buble and co from dawn to night -time. So a plea: piped music you cannot escape from is not relaxing, it just makes you want to leave.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front tend to be noisy at night from sounds on the street.
