“Nice B&B”
Reviewed June 4, 2010

My husband and I along with one of our friend visited BATH and stayed at this B&B. The breakfast and everything was perfect. It is hard to find but once you arrived the place is wonderful.

The house is kept really well, the keeper and breakfast is very well done. Unfortunately on our last day, the lady over charged us. She didnt even checked our name and almost triple charge us. Luckily I checked the bill. That really destroyed the feeling we had. Check your bill properly.

My girlfriend arranged for us to stayher on the bank holiday Monday as a surprise for my birthday. We arrived 2 hours earlier than check in, however, we were greeted by the owner and his wife who were busy settling someone else in. They kept apologising and in a few minutes were with us. We were provided with a map of the city and all the main attrcations highlighted to us along with their location. We were also told how to walk down to the city from the house which is situated half way up a hill. This means that the house is in a very quiet location with no hassle at all from town go-ers!

The house itself is very grand, nicely decorated and incredibly spacious. Both owners are incredibly approachable and friendly, always having a smile on their faces. Makes a change to the numerous miserable ones we have seen at the more chain-like hotels!! There is free parking and as some of the spaces were on a very steep slope, we were allowed to park ours on a flat section at the top of the drive.

It was no problem being early for check in, the room was ready and we were promptly taken to the top floor. It was of a good size with a TV, coffee etc and an i-phone dock radio. Considering it is a guest house essentially, don't expect the rooms to be massive but if you're anything like us, you won't spend all your time in there anyway so it doesn't matter. There are bigger rooms there but ours was standard. The bed was comfortable and the shower/toilet a good size. Very clean too.

There is room sevice too. After all day in the city, we came back to have a rest before our evening out. I phoned down to reception and asked for 2 drinks to be delivered. They arrived 5 minutes later from a very friendly receptionist.

The walk down to the city is about 10 minutes, it really isn't far. As you are walking down to the city from the House, there are amazing views of the centre and surrounding cuntryside. Don't be put off by the walk, we thought we would take a cab back up after our night out but decided to walk instead. It's not steep enough to cause anyone real problems and the exercise did us good after a 4 course meal!

The breakfast was excellent quality. The room itself is airy and looks out onto the beautifully kept garden outside which you can also use. A whole array of things to eat was set out including fresh fruit, yoghurt, pastries, cereal and juice. You are asked if you would lke coffee or tea (someone even asked for green tea and was given it) and are given a full breakfast option, veggie option or scrambled eggs with salmon. Food was delicious and plenty. Knowing it was freshly cooked, you can see the owner depending on where you are sitting cooking it, is reassuring too.

We would definitely stay here again. It had such a relaxed atmosphere and as you are given a key to your room which also fits the front door, you can come and go as you please. It is like being at a home from home. Excellent!

We had a 2 night stay celebrating my daughters 21st birthday. Lovely, comfortable rooms and good quality, relaxing breakfast. Lots to do in Bath which we took a short taxi ride to. Jamie Olivers restaurant is worth a visit . Staff very helpful and good service. We would definitely return. A great find

This place's website sold itself to me on 'views of the Royal Crescent or well tended garden' and its 'high pressure showers'. Was very disappointed on both counts as we were stuck in a dark basement room with no views at all and a very poor shower. We were told the room was recently converted and used to be the manager's accommodation. I think it was a money-making step too far to make this into a guest room. Would advise anyone else to check which room they're getting as there's no mention of this basement room on the website.

We had a very nice stay for two nights. After arriving around noon our room on the ground floor was ready and we allowed to check in early.
We were given a brief but detailed explanation on our location and how to reach the town centre and other attractions.
Our room was spacious, clean and quiet, despite being on the ground floor, with lots of hot water for our baths and showers. Good quality towels and White Company toiletries.
The honesty bar was very reasonably priced with a good selection of drinks.
Breakfast was busy (as the house was full) but very pleasant with good quality cereals, preserves and pastries.
Cooked items again used good quality ingredients, especially the Black Puddings!
The manager could not do enough for us and was helpful when ever we met him, like wise the girls working in the evenings were only too pleased to offer assistance with local knowledge and restaurants shopping recommendations.
The car park is steep but allows you to leave your car in a safe place and walk into town or use the bus which stops close by.
The lounge has lots of local restaurant menu’s available and a PC with internet access.
There is also Wi Fi throughout the house.
Would have no hesitation in staying there again, which is something we seldom do.

This was our 4th time back to Dorian House and the first time that we had been since Robert and Lize had taken over as managers. We had a lovely two night stay - from Robert greeting us so warmly after our long drive to being taken to our room. We normally stay in Tallis but as this had already been booked by someone else we opted for Du Pre - a really great four poster room with well equipped bathroom and fab television with loads of channels. The only downside to the room is even though it has its own private staircase, you are opposite the front door to the house and I was woken both mornings to the doorbell ringing and the door being shut rather loudly.

The breakfasts were as good as they have ever been, good selection on the buffet table, yummy cooked breakfast made to order, the coffee could have been stronger!

We will be back again soon as it is our favourite place to stay in Bath.

We wish Robert and Lize much luck with their new baby due in the next couple of weeks and we hope you have settled in to your new garden home.

Friendly and helpful. Staff go out of their way to assist. Pleasant rooms and good breakfast. 10 minutes from centre of Bath (though uphill walk on the way back!). Off street car parking available which is useful in this area (though a little awkward to access because steep). Unusual extra is that I was given a free CD of the some of the celllist owner's recordings.
