Owner description: Begun in 1499 by Bishop King, this is England's last great medieval church, dissolved in 1539 and now serving as a parish church.

The Abbey itself is magnificent with beautiful stained glass windows. At the time of our visit, there was an exhibition of Sue Symon's Diptychs - needlework and calligraphy. You don't need to have an interest in either of these to appreciate the hard work and vision that has gone into this collection. The tower tour was accompanied by friendly and helpful guides; the climb up the narrow stairs was worth it for the view over the city. All the staff in the Abbey were pleasant and welcoming.

The Bath abbey is magnificent. It's located in the heart of the city, everything being in walk's distance. The Kitchen of Bath restaurant nearby offers grwat food and atmosphere provinding a superb view of the Abbey. Everyone who stops in Bath should start sightseeing with the abbey. Entrance is free, you might even bump into service ( I have) to make things more intersting. So, the abbey is a must.

There is no entry fee just a suggested donation of £2.50 towards the upkeep. To be honest, spectacular as it is one cathedral / abbey looks much like another unless you have a particular interest in the place.

This abbey church, the last great mediaeval church to be built in England is visually stunning with a glorious fan vaulted ceiling matched by a friendly and welcoming clergy and congregation.

Give yourself some time to look around here as there is very interesting history here and it is brought to life by all the memorial plaques which gives you an insight into the population. Try to stay for a short service if possible.
