“A wonderful experience in a gem of a Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 31, 2014

We have just come back from a three day break in Bath staying at “ Dukes”. We booked based on the Trip Advisor reviews.
This Hotel was excellent. Everything was first class. Staffs were always friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Breakfast was always delightful and was a great start to the day.
The location of the Hotel is also excellent and we found it a great base for the sights of Bath.
We will return

Thank you – delighted that you both thoroughly enjoyed your three days in Bath. As you note in your review we offer 17 unique bedrooms and suites. Each one is unique in size, location within these two magnificent Georgian townhouses - with aspects looking out onto Great Pulteney Street, south to the Somerset hills or simply a skyline of ‘Mary Poppins’ chimney pots. Our reception is open from early till late and we will very happily try to ensure that you are offered a room that best meets your needs. With thanks.

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. The visit got off to an excellent start thanks to the lovely man who was on reception when we arrived. We were on our way to the thermae baths for a visit and the hotel had suggested we stop there first as we could park and the spa was only 10 minutes away. The man who greeted us was just so welcoming and helpful - he sorted out a permit for us, gave us directions and just generally got our day off to a good start. Our room was lovely - beautifully decorated and very comfortable - lovely en-suite bedroom. Breakfast was very good and the hosts made a point of talking to everyone. The hotel is also perfectly placed for the town being a few minutes walk across the bridge. We will be back!

Thermae Bath Spa is an enormously popular destination in Bath. Reclining in the roof top pool, as the sun slips from the sky is a magical experience; a must to be enjoyed by every visitor of Bath! Thank you.

Just returned from a two night stay at Dukes in Bath, stayed in the superior room 'Roxburghe'

The staff are absolutely first class, very very friendly, no pretentious-ness at all. Roman happily sprinted up to the top floor with our bag and David's friendliness & local knowledge was much appreciated.

The location of the hotel means parking could be awkward but we got lucky and managed to grab a space right outside the hotel, the provided parking permit being a massive cost saver! However the location also means you are literally a five-10 minute (max) walk from the centre of town.

Breakfast was superb, freshly prepared and served by more friendly members of staff.

The hotel / building is lovely, well maintained and beautiful.

Our room, as mentioned, was on the top floor, really not suitable for anyone with any sort of stair phobia! The room was clean tidy and pretty much as expected - very comfortable bed, with all the usual amenities. Nice view out of the window of chimney pots, the sports fields and the hills beyond.

The only negative I'd pick up on would be the bathroom, the kit in there is superb, very hot powerful shower, nice hot water for both sink & bath, however the wall paper is looking a bit tired & dated - possibly time for a refresh!

Overall a superb option for anyone staying in Bath who is looking for a traditional building with exceptionally friendly & service driven staff!

Thank you for taking the time to write a detailed and appreciative review. Special thanks for the applause for David and Roman, as with all our team, we are fortunate to have a superb, committed group of people intent on showing Dukes off at her very best. The Roxburghe is a lovely room with unique views over the ‘rec’. As you note a little bathroom touch up is in order ! Delighted that you found our - cooked to order breakfast ‘superb’….we set great store by our supplies of fresh fish from Paignton, local sausage and bacon with black pudding from the Isle of Lewis, Scotland. Thank you.

We recently stayed two nights with the excellent "family" at Dukes Hotel! We have never been treated better in any of the hundreds of stays we have had other places we have visited around the world. We had no prior reservation, checked in at 10pm, and had our handicapped son with us, which required extra care. So we were not easy guests to accommodate. But, David was more than welcoming, and carried our bags up 6 flights of stairs to the only room they had available to suit us! We hadn't eaten in hours and he found a great delivery for us, and went up and down those stairs several times to bring us extra water and electric fans, in order that we might be made more comfortable. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious and each staff member went out of their way to ask us about our plans for the day, offer advice, give directions, and made sure they were doing everything they could make our stay more enjoyable. We highly recommend this hotel experience and service to anyone who wants a peaceful, lovely and perfectly located place to stay in Bath.

Thank you for the ‘highly recommended’ commendation. As a team we all know that arriving late in the evening is far from ideal – particularly after a long journey. All our front of house team will offer a warm welcome and will do all they are able to ensure our guests settle in as smoothly as possible. However, thank you for the ‘never been treated better’ applause. Very pleased that you all shared a successful trip and that Bath has given you a clutch of happy memories. With thanks.

We stayed here for 2 nights in a wonderful room with a 4 poster. The room was beautiful. It was at the front of the house, but as the road is very quiet, this was not a problem.
The breakfast was excellent. I had forgotten to mention I am gluten free, but this was not a problem as they had gluten free bread.
The staff were friendly and helpful. This was by far the best B&B I have ever stayed in. Bath city centre is a short walk away and parking was easy. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Bath.

The Athol is our grandest room. With a four poster bed and overlooking Great Pulteney Street one may truly experience the Georgian sense of scale and indulgence. Delighted that you appreciated the gluten free bread, we endeavour to cater for a broad dietary requirement, so pleased that we were able to satisfy your request. We look forward to your return.

My wife was celebrating a very special birthday and we stayed overnight at "Dukes" we had a wonderful friendly welcome from David, and on reaching our room, my wife was thrilled to find a " box of chocolates" and a birthday card.... now thats what we call " thoughtful" Spotless and clean; delightful position, and a superb breakfast. Nothing is too much trouble, and the owner, even saw that our breakfasts were to our satisfaction. A pleasure to have stayed there. We shall definately return again.

Thank you – we are very fortunate to have a superb team, genuinely interested in sharing the magnificence of Bath with all who visit this world heritage city. We are fortunate in having a great location on Great Pulteney Street; one that offers visitors a remarkable stroll into the heart of the city. Very pleased that we were able to look after you both and add a little to your celebrations. With thanks.

We stayed here for one night only but it was ideal for what we needed to get the most of Bath in a short space of time. The welcome was very friendly and the provision of a parking permit for the streets around the hotel made arrival stress free. Parking can be difficult at busy periods as we discovered on arrival on a Sunday, but we still managed to find a space within close walking distance of the hotel. The location is excellent with only a 5 minute pleasant walk in to central Bath. The street the hotel is located on is extremely beautiful.

Our room 'Leinster' was on the top floor. The views over the city were superb. The room was quiet being on the top floor. The décor very pretty and furniture very original for the period of the building. The room was extremely comfortable and the breakfast very good. There are a lot of stairs in the hotel and no lifts as the building retains all original features. Therefore expect a long climb back up to the room after breakfast. We had no complaints however and we would return there, if we visit Bath again.

Room Tip: If you would like a great view from your room, request a room on the top floor over looking the spor...

Thank you for taking the time to write a considered review. Very pleased to hear that you enjoyed the Leinster – the views over Bath rugby fields ‘the rec’ and on to the Somerset beyond are a great pleasure and give a lovely perspective of Bath. Thank you for your compliments and we look forward to welcoming you both back to Bath.
