“One of the best hotels in all of the U.K.”
Reviewed March 26, 2013 via mobile

This hotel is amazing. Its quite tiny and has a cozy vibe. The inkeeper was hilarious, informative, and was quick to help ny family find restaurants and attractions in the Bath area. Breakfast was very very good. There were many options from the buffet and a huge variety of hot dishes from the menu. The rooms were clean, vintage-inspired and very comfortable. Ours even had a veiw of the city! This is one of the best hotels. I truly recommend that you stay here.

Thank you for your very flattering review. I am very pleased that we were able to help you and your family enjoy, to the full, all that Bath has to offer. Our innkeeper is delighted!! Many thanks for your compliments concerning our breakfast and breakfast team. We use the very best ingredients and hope to present them in the most enjoyable manner. Each of our rooms is unique and reflects on the Georgian magnificence of the two townhouses. Once again thank you for taking the time to write and for you generous recommendation.

Just returned from the perfect weekend at dukes! We are already planning our next visit!
i booked the hotel stay as a birthday surprise for my partner Indy - something he only found out about as we walked up to the hotel steps! We were met by Chris and Carole who were very friendly and welcoming - both of whom went out of their way to ensure our stay was as enjoyable as possible. I must say a big thank you for the birthday cake and wine you brought to our room as a birthday gift for Indy it was very kind and added a really special touch to our experience! I was also particularly impressed with the parking permit facility and the knowledge and expertise of the reception manager Mike who very kindly reserved a table for us at a beautiful restaurant in the centre of bath (at which we were personally welcomed with a glass of champagne as mike had informed them of the birthday - a lovely surprise!) The rooms were beautifully elegant and the staff beyond friendly and helpful! we cannot wait to go back! thank you so much for everything! Lily and Indy

Thank you for taking the time to write such an appreciative review. We are delighted that you both had a superb stay with us here at Dukes. The birthday cake was a small impromptu gesture. As a team we all enjoy the vitality and warm spiritedness that a birthday, anniversary or celebration brings to us here at Dukes. Very pleased to hear that you enjoyed your dinner in Bath, recommendation is a two sided coin and so I am pleased that the restaurant chose to enhance your celebration. Thank you for sharing your appreciation of our front of house and indeed our entire team. We too look forward to you both returning to us here at Dukes. Many thanks.

My wife and I and have just spent 2 days at the Dukes Hotel in Bath, we took advantage of their special Spa Offer which was perfect! After spending 2 days walking the streets and sights of Bath,
on our last evening to spend 2 hours in the Spa, with robes towels and slippers supplied! plus taxi back to Hotel all inclusive was a perfect finish to our stay in this lovely hotel. The owners and all staff were very friendly and helpful creating a very relaxed atmosphere. A special thanks to Mike for his advice and recommendations. The room was large, very nicely furnished and spotless, will go back again.

Many thanks for taking the time to write a review concerning your ‘Two day Spa break’. During the week we are delighted to offer guests a wonderful room and complimentary entrance to Britain’s only natural thermal spa. The Thermae Bath Spa is a superb spa lying at the very heart of ‘all that is Bath’ and so well worth a visit in her own right. In a small effort to ensure the experience is as enjoyable as possible we feel that the robe, slippers and towel makes it all the more personal and easy. Finally, I am very pleased that Mike and the Dukes team enabled you both to have a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxed break here in Bath. Thank you for taking the time and making the effort to write a review. We look forward to welcoming you both back to Bath.

I am not predisposed to this forum (although I watch it from afar) and never thought I would be moved enough to join the “madding crowd” but there’s a first time for everyone and doubtless only one experience that stands out from all others to make you want to recount it …in public anyway !

My wife and I had high expectations of this establishment and I must say they were met AND exceeded. Prominently located along a glorious Georgian boulevard within a close stroll to the city it is a gem of a place.

It is unique because it does not pretend to promise anything other than what it delivers. A boutique guest house with charm, elegance and great staff.

We wanted genteel, we got it, we wanted unobtrusive, we got it, we wanted charm and we welcomed by the hotels Reception Manager Mike!

Erudite, “Old School” a true ambassador for hospitality he is as passionate about Bath as he is about your experience of it. The fountain of knowledge, the care taker of your experience….trust in him.

Our Suite was well presented and a joy to come “home” to; the breakfast produce was sublime and the service of it flawless…

We didn’t meet the new owners so next time I hope. Thank you Dukes and to its staff you gave us exactly what we sought …..And to Mike, just keep on doing what you do best… you are hospitality’s benchmark.

Back soon…

Thank you. Thank you for choosing to stay with us. Finally, thank you for breaking with your normal behaviour and deciding to write a review, in this case a very generous one. First and foremost as you say we are in a wonderful location, an easy five minute level walk into Bath, this is simple good fortune. Secondly, as you state and I would paraphrase ‘we are what we are’. We have a superb team of very passionate and committed people. Our rooms are cared for by an attentive and very considerate team. Our professional breakfast chef loves producing an excellent breakfast plate. Our ‘front of house’ is managed by Mike, a professional, committed to the well being of each of our guests, I am sure he will appreciate your praise. As for ourselves, I am sorry that we did not meet you both; we look forward to your return to Bath and having the opportunity to personally welcome you to Dukes.

I recently sent my parents to Dukes for their silver wedding anniversary and they absolutely loved it and said that it made their stay in Bath as special as it was. Really spacious and clean rooms, lovely staff, a great breakfast and the perfect location! Carole, the lady who took my booking did everything she could to make it perfect, chocolates and flowers and a lovely note from staff were waiting for them in the room. Couldn't have asked for anything better, they defiantly recommend this hotel and I'll certainly be staying there soon!!!

Thank you for taking the time to write such a kind review. We were delighted that you chose Dukes as the destination for your parents to celebrate their silver wedding anniversary. We felt that given the nature of their achievement our small gifts would only ever be a gesture!! As the instigator of such a happy weekend we look forward to having the opportunity of welcoming you to Bath. With thanks…..the Dukes team.

I booked to stay here when running Bath Half, and the location is about as close as it's possible to be, and pretty handy for everything else too. From checking in to leaving the next day, the owners went well above what you might reasonably expect (and special thanks to Nicola!!) - we'll definitely come back again when we can enjoy what Bath has to offer, without 13.1 miles the next day...

I travel a lot with work, and have stayed in plenty of bland indentikit chain hotels, but this is such a pleasant change from that. If you want friendly, genuinely helpful service then don't hesitate - this is the place for you.

Thank you for taking the time to write such an informative review. The Bath Half is a tremendous event and we are incredibly privileged to be situated so close to the starting point and finish on Great Pulteney Street. I feel that you appreciation on this occasion is largely uncalled for........as we watched the runners prepare, take part, finish and recover we were the ones left in awe. Nicola was delighted to be of assistance and greatly appreciates your acknowledgement. Our intention is to offer a calm, relaxed and friendly stay within the magnificence of two Georgian townhouses, thank you for confirming that you felt we were successful in this endeavour. We look forward to welcoming you and your family back to Bath for a slightly less demanding visit and thank you once again for your review.

Classic & imposing as you enter. First impressions are backed up by the staff & owners who are all efficient & friendly. Decor & furniture are all classy & well maintained & the ambiance warm & inviting. Breakfast was superb & fresh, with only a short wait (as stated on the menu) whilst it was all freshly cooked. Staff could not have been more helpful and gave us good advice as to what to see locally etc. When we discovered we had no soap in our bathroom we called reception who sent it up staight away & were very apologetic, even giving us free drinks although we were not complaining or asking for anything.
Great place to stay, but if you are not very mobile you need a room on the lower floors as there is no lift in this listed building.

Room Tip: Great views on top floor but no lift

Thank you for you very kind and thoughtful review. Pleased that everything went well and that your stay with us was enjoyable. We are determined to offer a fresh and varied breakfast menu and ensure service without delay. Thank you for your comments concerning ‘mobility’, we have two rooms on the ground floor, one of which has a ‘walk in shower’ - that said we are within two Grade I listed Georgian townhouses – with no lift. I would ask prospective guests to make their needs known at the time of booking as we will endeavour to be very responsive to particular needs or requests.
