“Great cocktails”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2014 via mobile

Whilst staying at the halcyon I was impressed with the service and attentiveness of Gareth. Who went out of his way to create and tailor cocktails for us. Fabulous night. We only popped in for a quick drink and ended up staying for several.

Clean, charming hotel with an unbeatable location if you are travelling by train. You can walk there in under 5 minutes from the train station and it is just around the corner from the major sites such as the abbey, Roman baths, and the Thermae spa.

This is not a bad hotel. The location is great and the staff are super friendly. My rating is more in relation to the £150 per night we paid. The room we had was tiny, and normally I don't mind small hotel rooms at all, but here I had to maneuver just to pass the bathroom door, which by the way wouldn't close. The choice of breakfast was also below average and sadly the extremely friendly staff at breakfast couldn't make up for it. If you get a decent rate, then this hotel is a fine choice.

Had the opportunity to stay at this property recently and the location is great! it is right in the heart of Bath, easy walk to nearby attractions. The breakfast was lovely, the staff great in terms of friendliness and check in. The room itself, although small, was comfortable and quiet. Would recommend this hotel to others!

Room Tip: We were on the top floor which was quiet - a bit small but a good room

My husband and I stayed 3 nights in late May. After a 5+ hr. flight from Heathrow and a depressing, long bus ride from Heathrow, it was a relief to walk less than 5 minutes and be greeted by friendly, energetic Malika; our brief encounter with other desk staff was also a pleasure. Location: excellent (rd the other reviews); the rainy weather made us want to stay close to the hotel for dinner, and we really enjoyed the Yak Yeti Yak and Mai Thai about a minute's walk away. The breakfast was absolutely perfect in its presentation and choice: decadent or healthy. Just check the weekend time; it may start an hr. later. Our room (2.5) was at the back, there was no problem with noise. A disadvantage may be the lack of elevator and the stairs. We are reasonably active seniors (69 yrs) and were able to carry our luggage and go up and down the 43 stairs to our room and down to breakfast (16). The handrails are too wide to grip easily or non existent. I think the stair lighting was fine. The bathroom was nice but the narrowness may present a problem for some. I am small and thinnish, and when I bent over at the sink, I just barely cleared the sliding, pocket door; of course, the door can be easily left open.

Room Tip: Ask how many stairs you will have to climb to your room. The stairs are not steep, but the handrails...

This was our second trip to Bath in the last 8 months, the first in the Autumn of 2013 where we stayed a few miles out of the city but wanted to be closer to the action this time. The Halcyon's location is perfect for easy walking access to the major attractions including the Roman Baths etc, but also within reach of the best places to eat (See my review of Sotto, Sotto).
There were 6 of us on this trip staying in 3 rooms, some international guests may consider the rooms small but I'd say more 'bijou'. The important things to note, bearing in mind one our group was my daughters American boyfriend:
The rooms and bathrooms were very clean.
The showers unlike many in some UK Hotels delivered... A lot of international travellers will know what I mean. :- )
Excellent Bar area and outside street side seating area for pre dinner drinks and cocktails.
Good quality Continental Breakfast, English Breakfast at the weekends.
More importantly than all the above, The Halcyon have excellent, friendly and attentive staff.
I'd like to give special praise to Laura who from arriving to our departure was very professional and gave helpful tips for places to go etc... My eldest daughter is a Flight Manager for one of the UK's more prominent International Airlines, so understands more than most about professional customer service and was also really impressed by the staff and Hotel, especially as she spends so much time in various Hotels around the world.
Its worth pointing out that its almost impossible for these types of building to have air con, but again the hotel have provided each room with a good quality fan and the windows open for those who like lots of fresh air.
The location and atmosphere are excellent. Whether this comment is of use or a negative I'm not sure, but it didn't spoil our visit. We had a superior room at the front of the Hotel and just off to the left is a beautiful church which chimes and marks the hour from about 5am in the morning. The bells are lovely but may not be to everyones taste.
If driving to Bath remember there is extremely limited parking options. After Checking In the best option is to drive to the large Long Stay car park in Charlotte Street.

Room Tip: If budget allows go for a superior room at the front of the Hotel. Also consider the Halcyon apartme...

We stayed at The Halcyon for my hen weekend and it was absolutely brilliant! All the staff were very helpful and lovely! As with any big group there are always changes and leading up to the weekend the hotel were very very helpful and assisted in anyway they could. The Circo bar was amazing!! and the cocktail making is highly recommended. The best location being only a short walk from the Railway Station, the bars, the spa and the rest of the City Centre! The only place in Bath I would stay in the future!!

Room Tip: Room 1.2 is very quirky with its own set of stairs leading up to the bedroom and bathroom. All the r...
