“Excellent stay in a great location”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

We stayed for one night on a last minute deal for my girlfriends birthday. The room was beautifully decorated and very clean. The his and hers hot water bottles were a nice touch. We had a couple of issues with the room initially (door lock was broken, tv fuse had gone) but the staff could not have been more helpful in sorting them out quickly and easily.
The location is right in the heart of the city, close to the station and within a stones throw of the main entertainment and shopping centres. The hotel is situated opposite a busy taxi rank so some rooms might be a littlle noisy late at night but generally not a problem.

All in all a wonderful nights stay in a beautiful little hotel. Many thanks.

Great experiance and position for all City sites - 2 minute walk to The famous Bath House

Our room was fantastic - well appointed and very comfortable

The staff were amasing - very attentive and extremely helpful - the service was excellent

The Circo Bar is a must - exciting Cocktail Bar

We will return to Bath and The Halcyon - we have found a Gem!

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 1.1 - first floor at the rear of the building - this room is a Studio - great size...

This was a birthday treat from my husband. He chose this hotel because of its central location,
because I have trouble walking. The receptionist was very polite and welcoming, she gave us our room no.3.6, which is on the third floor (attic floor) and said there is no lift. I did ask if there
was a lower floor room available but unfortunately not until the next night she replied. As we were only there for 2 night's I said, it didn't matter. Oh boy did I regret that, we were exhausted when we got to the top. The room was clean, not very big, however it did have a nice view. The bed was very uncomfortable. We also found the room to be very hot and the radiator was off.
We did not have a fridge, I noticed that another review did. I did not think this hotel was value for money at £140 per night, we didn't even get a cooked breakfast included. I would not recommend. The best thing about the hotel, is the staff, who were very friendly and attentive.

This was our first stay in Bath, we were really impressed by the service at the hotel, they offer a personal touch you don't find in a chain hotel. Our room was small but cozy, the shower was great. The staff offered us advice on Bath and were incredibly helpful. The bar downstairs- circo is well worth a visit the cocktails are amazing, ask for a French Martini. Overall I would definitely recommend, it's a great location to explore the city and you must visit the restaurant sotto sotto.

From the moment we arrived and Sophie went out of her way to help us with parking arrangements and suggestions about where we should visit during our time in the city (all of which were unbiased and proved to be spot-on in terms of meeting our requirements), to being nursed through our hangovers with delicious breakfast and thoughtful service, everything was truly exceptional.

Really liked the location of the hotel, the welcome was lovely and a very helpfull lady proactively gave loads of helpful information about the hotel and local area, which was so helpful as we only stayed for a couple of days. She recomended a couple of places to eat including Sotto Sotto, which I would highly recomend.

The room was small but perfect, lots of lovely touches and very clean, the bed was very very comfy!

The parking is a bit of a pain, but if you park under the shopping centre and then 'lose' your ticket its only £12.50 for a list ticket no matter how many days.

The best part about our stay at this hotel was the people, everyone was lovely and friendly and couldnt do enough to help. Little touches like the manager chatting to everyone and making sure everything was ok at breakfast was a lovely touch!

Wouldnt hesitate to go again.

Good things were location, friendliness of staff & shower. The room was so cramped it was oppressive. Nowhere to sit, nowhere to out clothes. The breakfast meagre & poor quality. The decor tired. No herbal or decaf in rooms. Overpriced & would not recommend :-(

Many thanks for your review – I am very sorry that on this occasion we did not live up to your expectations. I am pleased you found our staff friendly and location good,
however I am really disappointed about your further comments – feedback is always welcomed and it helps us improve our offering.

There are a few of your comments that I would like to address – we are a recently renovated our hotel and employ a decorator for 2 weeks a month, to continually decorate our rooms and communal areas so it surprises me that you found the hotel décor tired – I have since inspected the room you stayed in and I noted that it has been recently decorated 2 months ago, so I take issue with this comment .

We are a Grade 1 listed Townhouse with 21 rooms of various shapes and sizes and none of them are the same – I would not describe any of our rooms as oppressive.
We take great care on our website to give the average room area size of the different rooms types and also add descriptions that include “not a massive room, but nor is the price”.
We also send a confirmation letter on reservation to describe the room including commenting on our quirky Georgian building and varying room sizes.
There is a contemporary bespoke hanging unit with an integral mirror, table and stool whilst there is bedside storage for smaller items.

Our breakfast is by far from meagre, on week days there is a selection of 10 teas, fresh coffee,
6 types of bread, croissants and pastries, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals, meats, cheese and boiled eggs and soldiers for those wanting a cooked option and during the weekend there is a menu of 6 cooked breakfast options.

We do provide herbal tea and decaff coffee in the room which are restocked during cleaning daily – if this wasn’t the case in this instance, I sincerely apologies.

From our other reviews on Trip Advisor it can be seen that the majority of our guests enjoy their experience at The Halcyon – it is always disappointing that on this occasion
we did not meet your expectations but I thank you for your feedback.
